Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

@Useful_Mistake I need a ruling. I saw a highly amusing Grady Judd presentation and I would like to post the video, and just the video. Not any of the ai slop articles online rags made about it. Is this permissible?
If you're willing to transcribe it, post it in A&N. Otherwise do so in Multimedia
Orlando media like wesh2 and channel 6 often have decent writeups, and I'm pretty sure I've seen the leo's press release on facebook or whatever as the op
there's also the dedicated thread

tbh on that subject I tend to half-ass my twitter backups lately since archive today and ghostarchive both seem to be a coin flip if they work with twitter that week
is there anything reliable for twitter archiving these days?
I know nitter works as a front-end, is that a backup too?

some sites also refuse to be archived correctly, i try to run anything from yahoo finance through archive.fo and it never starts

Yes, some Ukrainian sites used to have that problem. My workaround was getting pulling up Google Cache version and archiving that. Would work almost always, but Google recently killed that program.

Another solution is to keep trying archive.md until it works. Reuters sometimes refuses to be archived by archive.md, but if you do it enough times something breaks and it gets archived properly.

Try turning off your vpn. The "never starts" problem is almost always as a result of an antivpn kill switch in archive.fo and its alts

What is the protocol for adding articles that are old, like "before 2000" old? I had an interesting on Germany and patriotism that I posted a few months ago that was well-received partially because it had relevance to today, but then I added an article on Blockbuster from 1997 that also has some relevance to today and people just called me late and gay.

Ideally, there needs to be a [Historic] tag (joining [Business], [Culture], [Science], etc.) to allow posting of such articles while giving users a heads up on what's happening, and don't want them to be tricked thinking into there's some action in Rhodesia again (or whatever).

Make an "old news megathread" or something. I had one made back in the day, but I can't find it now.

on the subject of archiving what works with facebook these days? I tried most of my bag of tricks at shitwood busting up a trannie mass shooting
but fucked if I can get it backed up short of recording in OSB
if you just want the video fdown.net works. I haven’t seen anything that pulls and archives the pages themselves.
