Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

I'm a dummy, is the private tag anywhere on the WYSIWYG editor?
Here's how to use Private tag.

What you type:

[Private]
Article name
Article text
[/Private]

What you see:

This private information is unavailable to guests due to policies enforced by third-parties.

You have to type it in manually, as it does not appear on the editor. Alternatively, do not copy paste entire articles (outside of A&N) and just copy the select few quotes that are relevant to discussion.

Does A&N default to the same thing as the private tags outside of this board because A&N is itself invisible if you aren't logged in?

i dont know what you mean by default but as i've explained many times a&n is private because copy+paste archives cause problems.

I am announcing a policy change within the A&N section of the thunderdome. As per the thunderdome moderator discussions, we have agreed that the containment portion of the containment threads will extend towards A&N articles. While this will not apply retroactively, moving forward, articles dealing with the subject of a containment thread will be restricted to the containment thread. For example, this effectively means that all articles relating to the Russo-Ukrainian war (or the SMO for the Russians among us) will be constrained to the applicable containment thread. To that end, all articles of that nature must instead comply with the posting requirements of happenings instead of A&N (i.e. do not copy paste articles, or if you must use [private][/private] tags).

If you are unsure if your submission would be in violation of the new policy change, do not hesitate to contact me or any other thunderdome mod. Violations will be dealt with as any other A&N rule violation would be.
Could we please get a few examples from existing stuff to get an idea of "this thread should go to that thread"?

Articles that are pro-Russia/anti-NATO/anti-(western)interventionism, go to the pro-Russia thread, articles that are pro-NATO/pro-Ukraine/pro-what the west is doing goes to the pro-Ukraine thread. You can check the OP of either one and see where it fits more.

Something like this:

Gets to stay in A&N because even though it touches on the Ukraine war, it's main focus is US army failing yet another audit about their equipment, and it touches on the war only so much as to say that the audit was centered around equipment US wanted to send to Ukraine. Obviously, this is doesn't mean you can slapfight about the war there

I'm not being combative, I'm just curious why article text has to be privated. I know we did it for dox so non-members couldn't see it, but I don't see the benefit of doing it for articles. Are the authors sending us takedown notices?

Google doesn't like copypasted articles, and bots can't see through the private tag because its contents are only available to registered users (as is A&N and why that's not a problem there)

i have a question so this basically means if you want to post articles about russia ukraine post them in the containment thread instead of on its own or what this is kinda confusing @Useful_Mistake

The containment threads being talked about are in the HAPPENINGS board, which is a public board unlike A&N. Could have made that clearer in the wordy announcement.

Yes, if you want to post articles about the Russo-Ukrainian war post them in the containment thread it fits better at.

As an another example of what is okay to stay:

This focuses entirely on the sanctions on Russia, and the secret European plans to aid Russia in bypassing them.
Could have made that clearer in the wordy announcement.
I did mention it and even made it bold.
Why can't we just have a policy of gassing A&N niggers?
Because then we win, and Null doesn't want that

I was gonna ask about it but seems it was clarified. News about the Steppe Battle Royale go in the Happening thread of the war/operation and not in A&N then right? Is there some caveat if it is something particularly big it can be posted here though, like say "Hohols and Vatniks clash in heated battle on the outskirts of Vadim's farm" goes on the Happening's thread, but "Putin declares "Total NATO Death" and shuts off all oil to Europe" gets to be a post on A&N?

Russo-Ukrainian war articles go to their respective containment threads, yes.

The only Russia/Ukraine articles that can be posted in A&N are ones that are not primarily war related. I gave these two examples:

Both of which are acceptable A&N material. The first one touches on the war only so much as to say the equipment was meant to go to Ukraine, the article's focus being US military failing it's military equipment audit. Second one focuses primarily on Europe helping Russia bypass the sanctions they themselves implemented. The only mention of the war in that article is that Russia uses trucks for supply, and even that was directly linked to the topic of the article.

As it relates to your examples, the first is not acceptable while the second might be depending on the content of the article. You can always DM a mod and ask his opinion, and this is not a rule to entrap people. Accidents or misunderstandings will happen (as it does in the rest of A&N and the site) and they will be treated as any other rule violation, not any more or less harsh.

We're getting multiple articles cited on the MATI podcast twice a week, stay winning A&N chads, this is officially a "Good Board" again
