Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

doubleposting here because dammit I'm gonna try to keep responding to nonJoe things over here
Guys, quit doomering about A&H going away. It's not. Null is looking for mods again but this time wants a team with a real plan to make it better. That's it.

You should be glad.
I still don't really get what there is to "make better". Unless there is some amazingly terrible thing I'm unaware of, at worst somebody like A.R. shows up to spaz out about a subject and earn some (you)s, and I'm not even hating on her for it, just sorta using that as an example, but to me that strikes me as sort of a immune system. If you don't have enough presence of mind to go "wait this amazingly contradictory person is contradicting me, maybe I can just move on to the next post" then maybe you've got a devart or a twitter or a something that needs a look.
I'm guilty of that. There are a few other places on the site I check out and respond in occasionally, but largely, I've contained myself, not wanting to be a pain in the ass to the autistic cowhunters. But that's a good point.

Anybody have a cow recommendation (not a troon. I cannot abide troons. Preferably a poli, celeb, or a feminist) I can put in minimal effort hatebonering for?
ugojessie and wogglebuglover aren't really hate-able but are fun to keep up with
ugojessie has an unending supply of psa/oped/political cartoons from the Dank Continent
wogglebuglover is a classic CWC-style stubborn pig-headed weirdo making content of extremely limited quality and even more limited appeal and a chip on her shoulder directly inverse to both, but she's not trying to rape kids or anything

Making threads more read-able, helping people get with the program on what constitutes a good post and what is banal shit, finding ways to promote actual discussion without (or least just among) all the shit flinging, thread-banning people intentionally sabotaging threads or derailing, handling reports which are apparently bottle-necked right now, etc. There is a laundry list.

Not to throw shade but if you haven't noticed some of these problems you are probably a bigger part of them than most.

or you could do something really crazy like, scroll past the post that annoys you and move on to the rest of the thread?

I think just ban complaining in a&h.

Still need to be able to report say for example a direct threat or call to action but if you use the report button for anything else you get a slap.

Same for going whining about negrates.

It'd be mildly useful to have an auto ignore after x negrates while we're at it. ie if you consistently negrate the dinosaur or the wrestler their posts ended up hidden.

Add in an auto lock for threads over x posts so the mod tools don't shit the bed when doing merges. Preferably for y days since last activity too to prevent necros.

I also think political lolcows need a similar rules of engagement purely because that's where the cross pollination occurs mainly and their threads tend to be political spergery anyway

So turn into reddit basically.

Archiving needs to be enforced more. It’s easy to do, and on a place dedicated to things written by journo swine, I want those journos held accountable. Not archiving gives them opportunities to delete easier and claim they never said certain things. Many are fine at doing it, but it needs to be enforced more.

BLM and Paypal and Joy Behar and Micheal Moore and the AR-15 and California deserve their own threads or generals at this point lol.

agree to your first points, but no, you shouldn't autoblock a thing. use them fingers and scroll past things your little heart can't handle.

necroing threads is important sometimes, I don't think locking inactive threads even matters to the problems that need fixed.

depending on your perspective and how deep into your own ass you are, all lolcows are political.

The necro problem is a lot because of the "related threads" thing I don't mind when it's actual new info about the stuff related to the article

This 100%. Having generals and forcing people to keep to those generals would solve a lot of things

Incorrect, that's the perfect way to bury important stories that pop up that can just be slammed into a "general" thread. I've seen it done in other places and I maintain that's the completely incorrect way to approach that situation.

Some lower tier shit deserves it but certain things I maintain it shouldn't be applied to.

You can tend to tell when an article is going to be in for a multi-day news cycle / overtakes a "general" thread for days at a time annoying both ends of it. The general people just wanting to shit-post their basic-bitch stories and the people wanting to discuss the main thing going in the news cycle.

yeah I can def see room for a "Current President (and tangential aspects) General" and I def think a "A Florida General Thread" could have a place, but yeah too many generals just dulls things

I have restored stickers because people stopped complaining as much. All "Respectfully Disagree, but I Still Love You"s have become regular Disagrees. Some cached values may not reflect this.

If someone goes through your post history to mass-sticker you, report the user from their profile. Do not do it back to them.

Consider using the ignore button.

cuz it's really fucking gay to spend your time clicking the sticker button just to get revenge for being stickered once yourself
No I mean why report it instead of just ignoring it like a non-retarded person? Wouldn't staff get really annoyed to have to deal with people crying about this?
