Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

It’s good to remind everyone that the Joe Biden Megathread on A&N is nothing more than a support group for Trumpists who are still trying to LARP as multidimensional chessmasters after everyone has tossed them overboard. It’s a group of people who, after it became clear Trump was going to lose, created a private chat thread because they got buttblasted that guys like Hollywood Hulk Hogan were laughing at them. The chat thread got leaked and they just reconvened in the Joe Biden Megathread. It’s why it’s such a large an active thread: it has nothing to do with Joe Biden and more just soothing their red asses together. That’s why the idea of getting rid of the megathread versus individual threads for news stories got so much pushback.

Also Kiwi Farms is political but that’s because every lolcow thinks we need to hear their scorching hot takes on everything, including politics. It’s why they’re lolcows. Banning political chat on a lolcow board is just going to create an autistic minefield where there’s just some things about lolcows can’t be discussed. Seems retarded to me.

The real issue is that the internet has become a gaggle of echo chambers that people are no longer used to encountering political opinions that differ from their own. So when they do, they start autistically screeching. No thread or section of the board should be safe spaces for TERFs, right wing anime nerds, r/TheDonald refugees, etc. But KF is a political board unless you want to start restricting what we can say about lolcows, which defeats the purpose of the board. The real issue are retards who can’t handle opinions that aren’t their own and banning political chat isn’t going to fix that.

A lot of newer users don't understand that nobody is "safe" here and speaking to "friends". It's a place to watch cows and mock them.
It's almost like a lot of them have boomer-brain and think they're in some private club.

I like your posting usually, as doomtastic as it is it's usually right, but I find it weird here that you're saying this and nothing about the other kinds of political hugboxes around.

Why is that? I am genuinely curious.

TBH, I was mostly just interested in shitting on the TERF safe spaces here as they are the worst offenders of this shit by far. Personally I find any kvetching about political chat without mentioning TERFs to be disingenuous right from the get go.

It’s more of an indictment of the Internet in Current Year +7. People are just used to their corners and rarely venture outside of them. Since KF is one of the last bastions of free speech left, there’s going to be people of all different political stripes.

It also goes back to how everything is politicized and lolcows wouldn’t be lolcows if they didn’t overshare, which usually involves their political takes on things. Effectively that means KF is going to be political, it’s just that people need to unclench their colons and face facts that not everyone is going to agree with you and rather than get buttmad, you can either make your point, call them out if you think they got something wrong, or just keep on scrolling by. My preference would be the latter option usually.

It’s why I think the nonstop whining about A&N is fucking dumb. If you want to post more left wing shit, do it, there’s nothing stopping anyone.

A fair point, actually. Like it or not, TERFism has been cast as politically right-wing right now, as much as many of them do not want to admit it. It shouldn't be because frankly shitting on troons should be bipartisan, but that's the reality.

Null irrationally despises politics on his site. Ride's a janny so of course he'd advocate it.

I have no ill will towards Null and he's probably aware of that. I have no spite towards him or the jannies in particular, and I do like @Ride as a user. There's no animosity here.

There's a lot of examples of the site having political content, as a lot of the cows are inherently political. You'd be hard-pressed to make fun of Hasan Piker or Nick Fuentes without it getting political. Ditto even for [insert tranny here] or [insert commentator here]. I do, always have, and always will find the idea that this site is inherently apolitical a joke as it's the opposite in fact and form. You don't see people in the Trump Derangement Syndrome thread making apolitical jabs nor would you find that in it's opposite the Trump Enslavement Syndrome thread. The ResetEra and SomethingAwful threads are also political in nature. Hell there's a thread in the Lolcows section on Donald J Trump, and this site is apolitical? Yeah, okay, sure.

But as I've always said it's his site and while I may criticize here and there I've no animosity for the guy. Hell I listen to every MATI on friday nights eating dinner.
