Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

This is how it starts everywhere else too. The moment the cultural left loses domination of the arena, they start talk to my about "both sides" and "bias". When they're dominant, bias doesn't exist and theirs is the only side.

There are plenty of people on the left who can compete in the marketplace of ideas. The 3 or 4 whiners in this thread (it's always 3 or 4 whiners) make lots of noise, but can never back up their claims.

That's why they hate a&h, and really, critical thought. They know their dumb ideas only stand up when nobody is allowed to go against it.

Sad the owner seems to agree with them. Weird, I always had the impression from how other places talk about the farms that he was a hardcore right winger.

Our ideology here is typically that of examining lolcows, it's a centrism that emphasises the innate need for the examination of craziness as a chaos on the flesh. It means that you can laugh at right-wing lolcows even if you're right-wing because lolcowdom exists regardless of politics.

I don't know null that well and won't attempt to speak on his behalf but I can only assume that kiwifarms culture is predicated on a seperation from politics that you seem unable to grasp at the moment, cutie....

A&h is rather unique and I would hate to see it lost due to a couple complainers. You know you can read this site without signing up?

What does the lolcow section have to do with whether a&h is good? A&H doesn't keep you from just reading lolcow stuff.

Well aware of that, sport, the problem is when the ironic shitposting gets taken over by true believers of any stripe. We've seen it occur in so many websites as idpol entryists take over. I'd hope there wouldn't be a right wing equivalent occurring here as our culture is unique. We expect new immigrants to assimilate, capiche?

Yeah, that's what this is about. A&h existed, some people are mad, they want things changed. I'm saying, like you say, the right answer is "fuck off if you don't like it".
A few people here seem to think some change is needed, I hope they don't get their way. I can't use some of my favorite fan forums anymore because they turned into Trump hate clubs, after the same sort of complaining. What the hell does Donald Trump have to do with Twin Peaks?

Fair enough, mate.

I get that we can't fully separate politics from the lolcows we cover and a lot of them, for various reasons, are idpol SJWs but it's been an ongoing trope noticed here that some folk try to force lolcowdom on to random political figures. Look at the stonetoss thread as a byword for that sort of stuff.

Yeah, that's true. People drag politics into everything, and ruin those things. It's nice to have a place where you are supposed to talk about that, so you can tell people in the other places to fuck off with their politics.

If Donald Trump just said something offensive, I don't want to hear about it and argue about it in my Speed Racer fan forum. Speed racer fans aren't generally well versed in politics anyway.

If theres no other place to talk about it, my speed racer stuff gets polluted with low quality politics. If there's a place for it, I can tell them to fuck off back to a&h and stop ruining important conversations about Racer X.

Yeah, did you notice when asked to put up or shut up, they tried putting up dumb bullshit like internet stickers and were really unable to provide even a tiny example of this pol takeover?
These people are relentless. All my favorite internet hangouts have been ruined the same way. A couple whiners, bitching in the ear of the admins about "a lack of civility" or something, again, with no actual evidence. Eventually they get their way, then use that foothold to keep pushing. Eventually they've driven out the old admins, replaced them, and locked up another hugbox. The places never recover.
The parallels to the Soviet infiltration of Western academia are interesting. Get in, cry about fairness, take control, lock everyone else out.

I do agree a&h, like everywhere else, would be better without the no effort shitposting, including the dumb racist shit. Basic rules enforcement would work, but null specifically said he liked the posters that did that, so I don't see that happening. I mean honestly, in a greta thernbirg thread, saying "you just hate women" is worthless, as is "she is ugly". You could cut down on the noise a bit just by deleting posts like that, if you thought it was worth the administrative effort.

But the fact is, nobody has demonstrated a problem to fix. If anyone but the owner of the site had made this thread they'd just be laughed at.

The owner of the site has made a thread about how maintaining the website doesn't feel as rewarding because of A&H. This is a huge fucking problem. It's an existential threat, you absolute intellectual titan.

What is the problem to solve? What needs to change? Null not enjoying hosting a&h is a matter of null's feelings, there's nothing to argue one way or the other. If he doesn't want to do it he won't.
He said the spillover is an issue, although nobody has shown any examples, I'm sure it happens.

Null is getting more janitors for a&h, which seems to be his solution to that particular problem. The opinionated headlines don't help discussion, I'm glad he's curbing that. But that's different than "we're turning into pol". That's different from "you can't have serious discussion on a&h because its just dank racist memes". It's different from "theres a club of a&h regulars with a complex rating network that conspires to drive off left wing posters".
 
I've lurked A&H more than other sub-forums on this site for the better part of a year at this point, and I don't think it's as bad as most people say. The worst thing I can really say about is that it's kind of a gay circle-jerk of autism, but I find that sort of comradery in spergery to be charming in its own way. It's like watching a train-wreck in real-time, except it's like ten trains colliding at once, and every train's PA system is playing a speech about how black people are ruining America.

I've always seen A&H as internal lolcow community content (similar to WW, really) as well as strange/interesting news that you wouldn't otherwise read about. There's occasionally an interesting point brought up, but by-and-large, I don't consider this to be a serious forum for discussing politics or the news.

Maybe the board would be healthier if everyone would stop taking this so seriously.

They should be ignored, not compromised with. Because nothing is ever enough. Screaming lies doesn't change the truth. If they can demonstrate an actual problem that's another thing.

Acting like a&h is just people agreeing with each other just shows you don't read it much. I see a lot of arguing over unimportant pedantry, never mind actual differences of opinion.
 
The "lol niggers" and "da jooz!" meming can get a bit tiresome, but getting butthurt because your posts get more cold pricklies than warm fuzzies is just exceptional.
 
Meh, it's not that bad at all. Unlike /pol/, I can browse through it without seeing spam, blatant porn threads and people shitposting about Jews and niggers to the point that it actually gets annoying. I can browse through most threads without the shitposting getting so bad that the thread becomes a cesspool of autism again unlike /pol/. I honestly don't see why some people have a problem with it. Not that it's perfect, but it's perfectly usable and serviceable in as is for the most part.
