Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

No. It solved the problem and now the only issue I experience with this board is you fucking retards bitching about getting stickers back. I'd rather endure that than the perpetual, never-ending drama over WAAH HE REVENGE RATED ME. It's a permanent change, I'm not reverting it, stop asking.

Still say you should have just tempbanned anyone who complained about getting revenge ratings.

Then again, this sort of quasi-collective punishment thing is kind of like what Israel does to the Palestinians, and if nothing else we here at the Kiwi Farms love and support the nation of Israel.

For one thing, it isn't "all users" - it's "some users" you should've told to shut the fuck up and stop being babies.
Secondly, you're the guy who's gone on to explain that being able to rate people "dumb", "lunatic", etc. keeps what's currently going on from happening, where users feel they need to respond in full posts and get in slapfights with people who disagree with them rather than just having a negrate they can give and move on.
Thirdly, I respect you man but it was a serious bitch move to cave to people whining. We both know who was doing the whining and it wasn't "most users", it wasn't even "half of the users", it was certain problem people you'd have no problem usually telling to go fuck themselves.

Here's a novel idea: reinstate full ratings and just 1month ban people who complain. Treat it like a one-word post.

Edit: Now that I think about it, if what you say really is true, all trannies and other assorted malcontents who want the Farms ruined would have to do is sign up and bitch at you en masse. Good shit.

You're comparing an artificial astroturfing attempt to the balancing act of managing a massive forum such as this one. Banning everybody who transgresses for 1 month is not the way to run a community. It's also super easy to sit there and backseat Null when you're not in his position and have zero perspective.
 
It still boggles my mind that people actually threw enough of a 'tism fit over stickers that they had to be taken away.
@Null, if you really want to curb this behavior, I'd recommend hiding reaction scores for everyone but mods. I really think the sticker autism came out of people obsessing over their reaction score, like it was reddit karma.
Or you could just constantly switch up the values stickers contribute towards that score, though that's probably more fun for us than you, lol.

You mean like the people that complained about stickers enough to get em taken away? Cause that shit was definitely organized and never fixed a fuckin thing. The same people that bitched about stickers still just shit up threads and bitch about the section after shitting them up.

I confess that I am a bit confused.

I thought the story was the stupid things got taken away on a whim because of a suggestion from Dyn, and it was done because it seemed funny.

However, on this page it's implied it's because the complaints about stickers were a simmering problem of some sort.

These do not seem like the same story.

I think that's probably the best solution if there is one, but
A) requires work
B) feeds into rewarding people bitching, but that's part of how the ratings went away to begin with so 🤷‍♂️

The point, and it was with digg too, was to cut down on "I agree" or "+1" posts. If you're old enough to remember forums before Reddit's ascent you'll know how common and cancerous that shit was. The voting didn't completely fix it, and part of reddit's problem is it is infested with faggots as much or more than the votes.
