Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger has undergone emergency open-heart surgery, according to US reports.

The 70-year-old underwent the medical procedure on Thursday, according to TMZ.

Mr Schwarzenegger was scheduled to have a catheter valve replacement and developed complications, US reports say.

The procedure usually means the patient can avoid having open-heart surgery.

Doctors at Cedars-Sinai hospital in LA reportedly decided an emergency open-heart operation was needed and Mr Schwarzenegger was in theatre for several hours.

The former governor of California is believed to be in a stable condition.

Earlier this week, Mr Schwarzenegger seemed in good health when he spoke to CNN about changes in the Republican party. The former politician has been critical of Donald Trump's presidential administration.

The action star is due to reprise his previous roles as robot killer The Terminator and Conan the Barbarian over the next two years.
This is not the actor's first heart operation. In 1997, Mr Schwarzenegger underwent elective heart surgery to replace a heart valve.

Arnold can't die yet! He need to be president first.

If he dies he will live on through our collective impression of his voice, which everyone seems able to do for some reason

HE'LL BE BAHCK DAHN'T WORREE ABOT EET.

Seriously, guy is a tank, or at least in todays context he's pretty youthful.

He's 70?

Goddamn. Dude looks fantastic for his age. I hope he's okay.

I thought this was a planned surgery to replace a synthetic valve in his aorta that he had put in 20 years ago?

I dunno if he still likes cigars but it would probably be a good idea to cut down at this point. Also, no one truly knows the long term effects of anabolic steroids in the long term because so little research has been done.

the pile of wrestlers dead due to enlarged hearts/similar problems in their 40s/50s is enough for me

Many of those guys took many other types of drugs as well, especially considering that the WWE puts a lot of pressure on its athletes. In professional bodybuilding you could say the same, very few of these guys take only one substance. They stack different steroids and/or they add other substances as well. Rich Piana allegedly had cocaine in his system? They couldn't revive him.

I'm not saying that it's a good idea to use them, but they haven't been around for as long as other drugs and are therefore less understood. I do know a guy at my gym who claims to use, but he's been off for a while and his lifts are shit now.

This isn't the first time he's had heart surgery, he's had issues with his heart since the early 1990's. I actually think it might be genetic. The fact he's a known cigar chomper and at one point did roids in the 70's and early 80's certainly doesn't do him any favors though.

The effects of cigar smoking is probably what is causing him complications.

Eh, he's 70. Most people at that age give 0 fucks about something that'll kill 'em slowly like smoking, and really, I wouldn't blame him if he didn't want to quit. What's he going to do? Die at 75? Maybe 80?
