Shots fired after federal police in Minneapolis struggle to subdue man brandishing gun amid protests, video shows​

Shots rang out in Minneapolis early Saturday after federal police tried to subdue a man who was waving around a gun, according to law enforcement sources and video posted to social media.

A 39-second clip showed about half a dozen cops struggling with someone on the sidewalk in front of a donut shop at 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, when the gunfire erupted.

The officers appeared to scatter after the barrage of shots went off, according to the footage.



The shooting happened after the man brandished a firearm with two magazines, a law enforcement source told The Post, sharing a photo of the firearm.

In a statement, city officials urged residents to stay calm and avoid the area.


“We are aware of reports of another shooting involving federal law enforcement in the area of 26th Street W and Nicollet Ave. We are working to confirm additional details,” the statement said.

More than 100 protesters had been at the scene when the encounter occurred. The man’s condition was not immediately known.





On Friday, protesters yelled obscenities at two people wearing plain clothes who they believed to be agents after protesters claimed their rental car was linked to the incident, according to video reviewed by The Post.

Neither person was an officer.



Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) posted about the incident on X late morning Saturday as the details of the shooting were still unfolding.

“I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” he wrote.

“The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”


Neither the White House or the Department of Homeland Security have said what precipitated the shooting, and did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

His finger was definitely on the trigger prior to the shots beginning, and fortunately this angle is just good enough to show this but completely obscure the first shot and what's going on with the suspect's gun, still a good competing theory which keeps it simple.

If we match it up with the SIG misfiring than it's possible that the Green Jeans guy got spooked, open fired and than continue to fire regardless. Is it to cover up his fuck up or did he just panic and shot multiple times.

Fuck knows now. I think that may be the best footage we can get of this.
 
I don't think the feds will ever tell the truth of the incident at this rate, nor will internet sleuths find truly conclusive evidence.

I think there is a VERY strong chance that this is exactly what happened.

ETA, as something of a caveat/disclaimer, I don't think I see any kind of muzzle flash (not uncommon if it happened between frames), and I tried to see if I could spot any little puff or chip where the bullet may have hit the ground and I don't think I see anything in that regard.

If this is correct and it was a Sig discharge, then the guy was a fucking idiot for carrying chambered. Shame if his shitty defective pistol's discharge got him merked by feds, I'm not gonna be all "hurr hurr he deserved it", but I'm also not going to crucify the fed for believing it was go time when a pistol unexpectedly went off right next to him. Morons carrying semi-autos racked have led to god knows how many accidental shootings over the years, often of the dumbass doing the carrying when he puts the bullet in his own leg, especially when, like most modern semi-autos, the gun has no manual safety to engage.

I've never actually seen someone advocate for Israeli carry before. If your gun can't safely be carried chambered in a proper holster, whether constrained by a long heavy trigger, the fucking holster or a manual safety, it's a bad gun for carry.

While the sig going off on it's own would be the funniest cause of this, I think the guy who said it looked like the retard was reaching (he had a magazine or something back there) and another ICE agent thought he had a second gun so shot him is much more likely.

For me it is the fact he didn't bring his ID or his concealed carry permit, to me that says he knew what he was doing and what he was getting involved in.

Yeah, it's absolutely insane to PHYSICALLY engage federal law enforcement. I wonder if whoever's funding these retards to spend all their time in subzero weather doing this has also given them some kind of financial incentive to get publicly assaulted by ICE.

I didn't see a distinct puff of dust from the gun that could easily be distinguished from artifacting, but frame by frame analysis has its own biases that seep in without seeing things at the speed they were recorded at.

I see now, but I don't think that's a bullet impact. Go back previous seconds during the struggle and it looks like there's a dark spot there all along. I think it's just video artifacting that's making it disappear and appear. At the moment, I still think the most likely case is that Green Jacket recognized Alex as an Armed Suspect after seeing at least one gun and shot because he couldn't see Alex's hands.
