Does anyone remember a show from around 2010 called The Tester? It was a show about a bunch of nerds in a competition show to see who would become a video game tester, I think. It was PlayStation Network exclusive. Arin was in the third season (circa 2012), and got eliminated after 3 episodes. Absolutely nobody on the show liked him (he was voted in by the audience before the start of the season, and was the most popular pick), and it's sort of good to see he's still as much of an ass as he was back then.

Yes. There were some funny YouTube parodies made out of that season, but the one guy that was making them soon gave up after Egoraptor was taken off the show, iirc. Turn down the volume on your headphones if you're going to watch this.

A lot of Arin's behavior comes from him not wanting to grow/learn. He's dumb, but I feel like that doesn't quite summarize it enough. Arin dropped out of high school because he stopped wanting to go and felt like there wasn't anything of value to gain. Around that time, he was dating Suzie, who he went on to marry. It's also where he made a lot of his animator friends and current social clique. If you compare Arin's mentality from then to where he is now, not much has changed. To his credit, he stumbled upon success, but that seems to be more because of the people influencing him in his life. He usually credits everyone else around him for the channel growing and any side projects they do is usually part of someone else's interests. Basically, I think he's the very definition of a man child.
Anyway, going back to him not learning, I think that's the biggest cow trait about him. Arin talks out of his ass so much and acts like an authority on things, but if you actually listen to what he says or do any basic fact checking, you'll see how wrong he is. It would be one thing if he actually tried to research what he was talking about and just misunderstood it, but he's too lazy to do that and just pretends to be an expert. I think the sequilitis videos really opened people's eyes to that. Or really, any other long form dialogue with him. In a 10-15 minute long vacuum, it's easier to overlook how stupid some of the things he says are because that's not a lot of time to get invested/really think about the stuff he's saying, plus they tend to jump around from topic to topic.
He reminds me of the college dropout character you normally see on sitcoms or movies, who hangs out with a younger cast of characters and at first seems really cool to them, but then as the main character grows/matures, they realize this person is just some sad loser, but people without that maturity keep seeing them as the coolest kid in the room. In this situation, that's represented by the GG fandom, the majority of which I'm guessing are right around that high school/early college age demographic.
All that being said, I don't know if Arin is actually thread worthy. He's not really involved in any ongoing drama. Don't get me wrong, there's no shortage of stupid quotes from him or examples of him being really bad at games, but that's not really enough to carry the thread. I think it's the same reason Suzy's thread never really went anywhere. It's not the same as someone like DSP who is equally dumb and bad at video games, but has such a long running thread because of his begging drama and slandering other streamers/his own viewers and lying about donations and what not.

All this and nobody mentions the time when Arin was invited to the invitational Nintendo World Championship Tournament at E3 in 2015.
Should of been a proud moment right? Wrong - sadly this idea was short lived, with the Smash and Splatoon tourney's taking their place later, but this tourney saw various Nintendo titles from history being played, and Arin is bad at *all of them*
He consistently loses and Nintendo literally makes up rules on the side to keep him in the tourney (I assume because they had considered Arin a big draw for this event or paid a lot to have him there)
In any case it becomes quite obvious Arin's being kept in the game for these reasons alone.

Quite honestly Im surprised this hasn't been made sooner. The man is an exceptionally stupid person considering he legitimately thinks Link Between Worlds is the best Zelda game of all time. That in itself is pretty galaxy brained.

That's the thing is that they can be entertaining but after Jon left, the dynamic is just not the same with Arin and Dan. Jon and Arin have a lot better chemistry where it feels like Dan is trying to carry the whole thing.
Arin just has too many tism moments that can't be covered up nearly as well as Jon was able to.

Everyone brings up his Zelda takes for how shitty his idea of game design is but honestly the video that shows his ineptitude the most is probably his Castlevania 4 vid thinking that just because the whip is multi directional that the entire game should forgo being a castlevania game just because of the controls being different.
Not realizing that 4 refines a lot of concepts from the original (brooding designs for stages getting the horror aesthetic, atmospheric music, making sup weapons easier to use instead of being tied to a button combination, and the expansion of the castle itself).
I guess it makes sense why he sucks at Ocarina so much as even an expansion of moment can make him think the game was designed badly and lost potential.
