AAAAAAAT LAAAAAST HER DEATH HAS COME ALLLLLONG.
no but srs I hated that chick. (also yes I know etta james sung that song but tbh all those black gospel chicks sound sorta the same)

Aretha Franklin, universally acclaimed as the “Queen of Soul” and one of America’s greatest singers in any style, died on Thursday at her home in Detroit. She was 76.

The cause was advanced pancreatic cancer, her publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, said.

In her indelible late-1960s hits, Ms. Franklin brought the righteous fervor of gospel music to secular songs that were about much more than romance. Hits like “Do Right Woman — Do Right Man,” “Think,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “Chain of Fools” defined a modern female archetype: sensual and strong, long-suffering but ultimately indomitable, loving but not to be taken for granted.

When Ms. Franklin sang “Respect,” the Otis Redding song that became her signature, it was never just about how a woman wanted to be greeted by a spouse coming home from work. It was a demand for equality and freedom and a harbinger of feminism, carried by a voice that would accept nothing less.

Between using her death as a political prop to try and push people to go out and vote, having Ariana Grande showing up in a bafflingly-small dress, and the pastor literally copping a feel on-camera, this whole funeral service was an absolute train-wreck. These people couldn't even take a few hours out of their day to just lay someone to rest without pushing politics or trying to grope up on someone. Way to send the woman off with some fucking dignity, you vultures.

Also, for some reason the news tried really, really hard to pretend that Louis Farrakhan wasn't there, even though he was literally seated right next to them.

The short dress is because she's 5'0 and when you're that short you gotta go either full length dress or a really short hemline so you look taller than you actually are. While I think a full length dress would be more appropriate for a funeral, I'm not exactly surprised by the choice.

But yeah, the funeral was an absolute disaster.

And article about the bishop and says that he says sorry:

The bishop who led Aretha Franklin's funeral has apologised to Ariana Grande after being accused of groping her on stage.

Images show Bishop Charles H Ellis III holding Ariana high above her waist, with his fingers squeezed around the side of the singer's chest.

"It would never be my intention to touch any woman's breast," he told the Associated Press.

"Maybe I crossed the border, maybe I was too friendly or familiar."

He added: "But again, I apologise."

The preacher said he hugged all artists, male or female, during the ceremonycommemorating the Queen of Soul.

But viewers began posting images from the service when Ariana got up to sing Aretha's song (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.

#RespectAriana is trending worldwide after a pastor got very handsy with @ArianaGrande at Aretha Franklin's funeral

Many people felt that Bishop Ellis's hand was inappropriately high on the 25-year-old's body as he spoke to her - saying that she looked uncomfortable with the contact.

It came as others on social media had been criticising Ariana for what she was wearing to the church service, saying her dress was too short.

Some people said that the focus being on Ariana, rather than the bishop, was misogynistic.

A lot of people found the joke funny, and it featured heavily in the conversation around the funeral.

But Bishop Ellis apologised after some thought it was distasteful.

"I personally and sincerely apologise to Ariana and to her fans and to the whole Hispanic community," the bishop said.

"When you're doing a program for nine hours you try to keep it lively, you try to insert some jokes here and there."

Ariana was performing at the funeral of Aretha Franklin alongside icons like Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan.

Aretha was remembered as an aunt, grandmother, friend, civil rights activist and icon of black womanhood, in a nine-hour ceremony.

She died earlier this month of pancreatic cancer, aged 76.

Newsbeat has contacted representatives of Ariana Grande for comment.

Was the gold plated hearse for real? I heard about it and that had me laughing.

The hearse is an old one, and apparently it was also used for her father, and for Rosa Parks.

It wasn't gold plated though, it was just a plain white one, (I think it was a vintage 1930s)

The CASKET, on the other hand, WAS gold plated. My dad's a funeral director and he said he saw one like that once at a convention. The price was $25,000 -- WHOLE SALE. Retail, it probably would've gone for about $50K. And THAT was 15 years ago. So the price has probably gone up.

AND it was sold bronze, so it would've been heavy as fuck. I don't envy the pallbearers. On the other hand, we're talking about the Queen of Soul here, and a diva as well. If anyone would go out in style, it was her.
