I'd argue that anthropomorphic characters or features aren't something that is inherently furry, in the same way that you're not automatically a furry for watching bugs bunny as a kid. I'd go on to say being a furry is more than that, for example, it could be actively identifying as a furry or being apart of the furry community, and liking all anthro things, or touching kids and molesting pets, etc etc, normal furry shit.

I believe his kind of logic is sometimes how they recruit gullible people and impressionable youth into joining their fucked up fandom, by convincing them they are a furry for liking one particular thing that is anthropomorphic.

If you're not a complete faggot about it, then I don't see why not. There's nothing wrong with supporting a team, but don't fag out over being in a suit. It's kind of a shit job. Bonus points if you have the strength to beat the fuck out of anyone who tries to pick on the mascot. Can't give you much advice but don't be weird about it, k?

Is Bugs Bunny a furry, or Donald Duck?

The way I see it mascots are just supposed to be cartoons like that, but in costume form. If there's nothing sexual implied or overt in the behavior or situations than it's not a furry.
