The border between Europe, North Africa and Asia is pretty arbitrary so historically speaking they could be included in any of the three. All of Anatolia used to be Greek with a few Celts in the middle and there were major Greek cities and colonies all along the coast of the Levant.

Carthage was a major Semitic civilization in North Africa and Spain, and there were large Jewish communities eventually scattered across the Roman Empire from Egypt to Britain.

My guess is probably mixed descent from Greek/Roman & Hispanic populations as well as Phonecians and Arabs. Jews were a lot more widespread in terms of distribution in centuries past.

Some Ashkenazi definitely have Levantine genetics but not all have a significant amount or any meaningful amount...the main thing that probably dilutes it is just being isolated so long among European populations far from the Mediterranean. Judaism was also a lot more exogamous up until the Middle Ages so that definitely plays a role. Conversion was usually standard alongside the marriage.

I think it will also increase the closer you get to Israel itself of course.

Technically yes, but are they part of the ethnic group that people refer to as Asians (East-Asians)? Fuck no. Israels are a Semetic people, most of them have been assimilated into the Arab population while the the majority emigrated to Europe. Jews look wired because many of them are a mutt race of Pro-Arabs and Europeans and/or Modern Arabs if you count the Mizrahim or Sephardim to a lesser extend.
