The hypertension announcement is the one i really cared about during the presentation.
That feature has me regretting upgrading to a Series 10 early this year, honestly.
I'd just like to add to this, because it wasn't clear in the presentation. The hypertension detection will also be coming to older Apple watches:

Don't worry, it's coming to older models.
Awesome! Hopefully Health Canada doesn't delay it for those of us stuck in this shithole country.

I’ve had some issues with my phone that I decided to wipe it once I installed the public beta of iOS. So far, I like it. Phone feels a lot more fluid after wiping my phone.

Liquid Glass is going to take a bit to get use to. But iOS needed a new look and I’ve been a fan of glassy interfaces since Vista and KDE4 days.

The mini didn't die for this.

Funny coincidence that the new apple phones got announced. I was just thinking about making the swap from android to apple anyway since the tards at Google are getting rid of side loaded apps. I hate walled gardens but if that's all there is I might as well get the one that's worth a fuck. Praise Steve Jobs!

I dropped android in 2021 and bought a iPhone 13 at launch. The experience was better than I expected and upgraded to a iPhone 16 Pro Max. There are a few features I want(Sideloading and browsers not reskins of Safari).

I’m not sure what your everyday use, but I love iMessage, airdrop, and findmy. And Google getting rid of side loading cements me not going back to Android.

So, random shot in the dark here: have any of you kiwis ever figured out how headlessly set up a macOS machine post-Apple Silicon? (No gui, ssh only). I’ve spent the last week pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to script this, but Apple seems to be openly hostile to people who have to use macOS as a build server.

Particularly, how do you trust self signed root CAs without entering your password via UI. The security command no longer does that.

Anyone else having their phone just hard freeze for several minutes after upgrading to ios26? I’ve wiped my phone after upgrading so it’s basically a pretty fresh.

I’ve noticed that if I pair my AirPods and the sound just plays through my speaker, it freezes until I force it to unfreeze with the volume button. Really fucking annoying.

Johnny Ive has designed something new.

Buying a macbook pro cured my autism. Switching from debian to MacOS felt like escaping Plato's cave. It is unironically a great computer, especially if one likes to experiment/work with machine learning: the M4 chips excel in such applications. Everything feels clean when using it. It's also the first computer I've owned that never gave me headaches or technical issues. Everything feels pro about it.

I'll wait and see on the sideloaded apps removal. It's one of those ideas that are just so dogballs insane that it's hard to believe, but if I seriously have to jailbreak Androids like they're 2011 iPhones, I may as well go right back to iPhone. It'd be the first one I've owned in over a decade, too.

I got a very good deal on an M1 Macbook Air earlier in the year, and I enjoy it quite a lot. I just wish it had more SSD space, or even a MicroSD slot.

I wanna bitch about Apple like a cool guy, but, I mean, shoot, I think they nailed it. It's downright frustrating that nobody else is capable of making a laptop without a bunch of retarded gay problems.

How do people genuinely enjoy using Apple Watches? I just returned one that was gifted to me because I realized I'd rather have another $400 in my pocket instead of being able to check my iMessages a second faster than when just pulling out my phone.
Smartwatches in general are elaborate toys.

Remember last year how that Russian guy revealed the 14 inch MacBook Pro with M4 ahead of Apple's announcement?

He's back with a iPad Pro M5, with some benchmarks.
M5 with a 9 core CPU, 3 performance, 6 efficiency cores.
12 GB RAM
About a 10-15% boost to single and multicore over the M4, and a 35% boost to GPU.

Going by the scores, the M5's GPU performance should be slightly behind that of a M2 Pro, but above an M1 Pro.

I am still floored by the performance of my M2 Pro MBP.

M4 user here I agree one of the best laptops I've ever owned. Very expensive but the seamless transfer of things between my iPhone and iPad with it makes it all worth it. And having both airpdods Pro and Max's make the experience so much less of a head ache compared to windows.

Phoronix: Apple Announces M5 With Much Faster GPU For AI (archive)
  • "4x the peak GPU compute performance for AI of the M4" (probably a little faster + new low-precision formats or something to get that theoretical 4x)
  • "The multi-threaded performance is said to be a modest 15% improvement over the M4."
  • "The unified memory bandwidth for the M5 is up by nearly 30% to 153GB/s."
Wccftech: M5 iPad Pro Storage Models Now Have Visible RAM Specifications, Starting From 12GB, Marking A 50% Increase Compared To M4 Models

Does the latest Mac OS do the same crap as Windows 11 (subscription crap, advertisement crap, etc)?

No, not at all. There is the iCloud Plus you can sign up for but there is no nag for it if you’re not subscribed. Apps like Music and Apple TV etc will prompt you to sign up if you aren’t already but besides the Music app you would only open those if you had a subscription anyway.
