this is looking more and more like a last straw moment for me with the Mac. It's been a long time coming.
Why would an iPadOS feature be the last straw moment for the Mac? Are you assuming they're going to port this to macOS?

I agree that full-screen apps feels… off in macOS, and the only time I really use it is when I'm watching videos and won't be doing anything else. Otherwise I'll just keep windows at the maximum size (Option-click the + widget) most of the time, for apps and use cases where that makes sense anyway.

And yeah, I almost entirely use command-tab and command-tilde too. Expose is for when some window wanders off the edge of the screen almost entirely while connecting or disconnecting monitors and now I can't find it.

That might have been something I forgot to mention. To be clear, Stage Manager was implemented on both Mac and iPad operating systems. It is perhaps because of this that it's a (IMO) subpar Mac feature, and does nothing to alleviate the current UI clusterfuck that is Full Screen apps in Mission Control.

(I also forgot to mention that when a browser tab goes Full Screen, every other tab in that window gets dragged into a Full Screen space alongside it, hidden from view until that tab is released from Full Screen, no matter how many monitors or Spaces are open.)

All these things I might have been able to overlook, but not when Apple's hardware is this outrageously bad. Apple Silicon may be fast and efficient, but it doesn't fix the underlying issue of the upgrade pricing. 200 dollars (or pounds) to replace 8 gigabytes of RAM with 16 is obscene. Add to that a further 400 dollars (or pounds) to get a reasonable amount of storage, and a decent Mac would set you back at least 1600.

Both of these upgrades I would consider non-negotiable as they cannot be performed aftermarket. And ideally, I'd like more of both in order to futureproof the machine. But at that point you're looking at spending north of 2 grand on a laptop, which of course seems unreasonable when there are decently specced PCs for less. But Apple are the only company that makes Macs, which you buy primarily for the operating system. So when I rationalise myself into maybe spending that amount of money in future, I tell myself it must be that I must really, really love MacOS.

And when the big clunky Dell I use for work allows me to cut and paste files, handles full screen apps in a non-obnoxious way, has a built-in clipboard manager, and even implements Spaces unobtrusively, I have to really ask myself why.

Huh, that seems to be correct. I thought it was an iPad-only thing. I guess I'll give it a try when it drops, though most likely I'll go right back to just using things the way I'm already used to.

That might be a Chrome thing. Safari certainly doesn't work that way; its tab bar is still functional in full-screen mode.

Yes, Apple's hardware profit margins are industry-leading, film at 11. But as you said, it runs macOS, and for all its flaws I still know how to be more productive in macOS than Windows, which feels like I'm using thick gloves when using and whose customs and practices I don't fully understand. (When I download a new app on Windows and it doesn't have an installer, where should it go? There's no "Applications" directory. Should it go in "Program Files?" Which "Program Files?" There's two of them…) Maybe that will change some day, but for now I'll keep overpaying for Apple hardware - which soon enough pays for itself in client work regardless.

That's because at this point Apple is more concerned with playing gay (hi Tim) games in decision theory and offering options that nobody would actually consider taking to hide the real price, which is why the fuck would you even consider the 8 GB for a (lmao) "pro" system in the first place? This just as one example I've seen, the other being with pitiable storage.

So the real price of the item after you've been enticed to look at a reasonable sounding price is the minimum price you'd actually pay for something you'd actually want. It seems the entire current Apple lineup has these starter prices that are for a ridiculously bad item and to get something you'd actually use, it would be for a price you wouldn't even consider paying for what is the actual BASIC option.

I figured someone, somewhere was going to get upset about that…

The colorful flags clashed with the monochrome menu bar, and conflating languages and national flags is dicey anyway.

And if you're still upset, consider that Windows does not have an American flag emoji (or emoji for any national flag) and also put the Pride flag in the search bar widget on users' desktops a couple days ago.

I have seen the menu bar become more monochrome but I still prefer the flag input source menu because some input sources have like what I shown with the U.S And U.S International have the same icon the way to fix this is to select show input sorce name but it takes up too much space in the menu bar when it is enabled.

Yes happy that macOS has flag emojis and does not just show the countries abbreviation and and it seems like Microsoft tried to force this woke ideology to everyone there is even a extension to removed the preferred pronouns from LinkedIn.

they should just make 'u.s. international' the NATO flag
Yet again alot of other input source flags dont have flags or were removed

In Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard most if not all input sources had flags but I feel as if some were removed overtime like this for example the Arabic input source had the Islamic Content flag on it but it was then removed in later versions

HEY SIRI!!!!!!

This is the funniest CISA vulnerability report I've heard in a long time, presented without comment.

So a vulnerability in not even the latest version of IOS 12 was discovered a few days ago.
Yeah but the vulnerability itself is hilarious because it seems an obvious thing to worry about that they clearly didn't (enough at least) and enables malicious audio to mess you about, I mean, imagine the trolling possibilities. I suspect it is not quite so simple but basically if you are still using that version I can send you audio to make Siri show you gay singles in your area or anything else I like. Apple's cope about it is also funny to me.

Yeah… I think trolling is the extent of it. I'm not sure what truly dangerous thing you could do with Siri alone. "Hey Siri, send $1000 in Bitcoin to…" Even if Siri could do something like that, I'm pretty sure you'd be prompted for a passcode first.

I keep Hey Siri turned off anyway. I'm not generally too concerned about security in regards to Apple, but having my device constantly listening in case I say some magic words is a little tough to swallow even for me.

Apple will never acknowledge this, it's admission that voice control is a dead end. You can "hijack" any always-listening device with a commercial, intentional or not.

When I visit people who have those voice assistants, I like to loudly say things like "Hey Siri, order one Dell Optiplex 7000 from Amazon. Yes OK confirm".

Can the M2 chip finally drive more than one monitor?
You can run two displays off an M1 or M2 laptop with a thunderbolt to dual DisplayPort or HDMI adapter. The mini officially supports two displays through one thunderbolt port and the HDMI port.

I found an M1 Mac mini for $800 with 16GB ram and 512GB ssd so I decided to jump in the apple silicon pool. It’s amazing how cool and quiet the new chips run under heavy load. I’ve got a 2015 5k iMac I’ve gutted and going to turn into a stand alone display. Just waiting on the driver board I ordered.

Apple has switched to a single ssd for the base M2 MacBook Pro and it’s actually slower than the M1 pro in many things. Hope they don’t do the same for the 256GB M2 Air. The YouTube channel max tech has done a bunch of videos on the M2 pro.

So I almost always use YouTube logged out because I'm paranoid about Google tracking me - though in reality, Google was still tracking me well enough to know what I watched and suggest other videos from those channels, so it was functionally similar to being logged in and subscribed to those channels. It was nice.

I think the latest macOS update broke whatever tracking mechanism they were using, though, since around that time YouTube "reset" and just started showing me the generic front page without personalized recommendations, and no amount of me "training" it by manually searching out channels and genres I want to see videos for and watching them seems to be sticking - I always just see the same generic front page videos. Who the hell is Mr. Beast and why does he have the same soyface gape in every fucking thumbnail? Also, shouldn't that little Asian toy video kid be old enough for college now? Do his parents have him on some sort of hormone treatment so he stays young and childlike forever so they can keep milking their cash cow?

(Chris-chan drama sigh,) fine. I guess I'll log in and start using YouTube as I'm supposed to be. All hail Alphabet Corporation. All hail Lady Susan.

Saw a youtube ad on mobile for "apple one" I thought it was a new all in one computer based on a tagline, but no it's some stupid bundle of subscriptions that shouldn't be subscriptions. Cool.
