As many know, the South has a tradition of flipping its shit every single time the temperature dips below 32°F, without fail, and of course Texas is no exception. With the announcement of a major snow storm scheduled to hit Texas in the wee hours of the morn, let's see how things are shaping up:

Expected Accumulations:

  • Freezing Rain & Sleet: Around 1/10 of an inch of freezing rain and sleet accumulation is expected with up to 1/4 of an inch possible
  • Snow: Less than 1/2 inch
Temperatures and Wind Chills:

  • Air temperature dropping into the mid-20s to low 30s by noon Tuesday for much of the area.
  • 25-35 mph wind gusts will produce Wind Chill values Tuesday in the teens to mid-20s. Some single digit wind chill values in the single digits are possible across the Hill Country
  • Low temperatures Wednesday morning in the upper teens to upper 20s
Impacts: Travel is discouraged Tuesday in the Winter Storm Warning area as many roadway surfaces will become slick and dangerous potentially causing vehicle accidents. Exposed outdoor objects, including trees, utility lines, and vehicles will become ice and snow covered. Isolated power outages are possible.

A hard freeze will have a significant impact on sensitive plants and pets. Elderly persons or young children could suffer hypothermia if exposed to a long duration of extremely cold temperatures. Exposed water pipes could break.

Latest model runs show the cold front — and potential freezing rain — to arrive earlier, possibly shortly before midnight.

After a mild Monday in the 60s, and arctic front approaches Monday night, bringing the potential of subfreezing temperatures from Tuesday morning through midday Wednesday (more than 24 hours).

Accompanying the front, there is high confidence that light rain will transition to some type of wintry precipitation: sleet, freezing rain or snow.

Cold showers start Monday night, transitioning to a chance of freezing rain midnight and during the Tuesday commute, possibly mixing in with sleet midday and getting cold enough for pure snow during the afternoon. Temperatures on the ground and above us that change only a few degrees could drastically change the type of precipitation we see, so prepare yourself for all modes of wintry precipitation Tuesday.

This setup has the potential to affect travel and commutes on Tuesday. Stay off the roads in the morning if you can. Tuesday afternoon will be bitterly cold and blustery, forcing bridges and overpasses to cool down more quickly. Most communities will not even climb above freezing (32°) Tuesday afternoon.

As is typical when such dire inclement weather emerges, schools and businesses all over will remain closed for the day. A good number of police departments are closed too, local news is still awaiting details on the ensuing Purge.

Stay warm, Texan Kiwis.

Not only that but that's why second gear in some cars exists, it's so you can drive in weather like that without accidentally giving it too much gas. Slamming the gas in this kind of situation is exceptional.
ive been starting in third in the last few days (car winter mode) and i accelerate faster than most cars when the light gets green. Slow starts pay.

I got fucking frostnip after 10 minutes outside over here. I'm the exact opposite of sympathetic for Texas' "problems" right now.

Where I'm at, lots of my fellow Texans are acting like a bunch of cocky chucklefucks after surviving the hurricane. It's actually pretty funny.

In 2 days I've gotten 10" of snow, and thanks to the plows have a snow bank in front of my house 3 FEET tall.
Texas might get some freezing rain or a dusting of snow?
I have approximately ZERO fucks to give.

Water mains all over my city have burst because of severe cold.

One burst near my house and thank the gods the river of muddy ice went in the opposite direction. People's yards looked like you could do the Ice Capades on them.

I can't imagine Texas snow being that bad. But I guess when you aren't that used to it things are different. Like when you get an earthquake in an area not prone to them.

It's definitely an issue of people/local government being unprepared. They got complacent over the past few years of warmer and shorter winters, with no snow or ice. Before the latest El Nino warming cycle, it used to snow and ice here at least every other winter if not every winter, and the government prepared enough snow plows and salt/sand to keep the roads open. But they got lazy since then, and we will have to see if there level of preparedness is adequate for the current weather conditions.

Usually the biggest danger is from retard drivers causing fatal multivehicle collisions on the highways. Even if you have prior experience with driving on icy roads, you can't do much about the Mexican in the next lane who has never seen snow in his life and is fishtailing around in a pickup that is heavily backloaded with 80 pound cement bags and cinderblocks.

The sky looks pretty dank af right now in Tarrant County tbh.

Here's you winter tip of the day:

I hope you all have your winter tires there Texan folks. If you don't, stay home. Oh, and if there's exceptionnal trafic, bring an emergency kit and some food if you stay stuck. Don't speed, be nice. There's some very dumb person out there that think ice is no big deal, even more in South since they are not used to it. If someone looks like some speds, pull over , let them continue their way. No need to risk your life for them.

Icicles can be deadly so be careful around them. If you house has some, try and break them. They won't fall off your head. Bring a shovel and stay at the good distance from them.

One last thing, your electricity can shut down. With violent wind but I'm sure you all knew that.

That pretty all I think think right now. I used to snow as a fellow North Canadian, so stay safe. Snow is a bitch.

Yeah, I'm more worried about retarded drivers here then anything else. People in my town already drive really retarded with out wet ice on the ground. The only thing that pisses me off is this pass summer I moved out of a place that had a fire place that I never used because it never got that cold, and now my new place has no fire place. :(

I have a burn barrel.

But that requires <<going outside>> god no, NO.

This might be a little :offtopic:, but my favorite thing to do during the winter is to freeze water outside, grind it into shards with a mortar and pestle and then nasally inhale them like I'm doing cocaine.

My power went out for 2 days, thank god it came back in time. My heater doesn't work though. Shit hurts man.

This morning I walked outside where I'm currently living and didn't realize the patio had iced over, so like a fucking idiot I slipped and fell and busted my ass. Couldn't even make it 15 minutes. (:_(
