Anyone else find public proposals cringey?

Maybe my perception is skewed since I've never actually seen one irl and my knowledge comes mainly from American TV shows, but I've always found the idea of proposing in a public space (like a restaurant) really uncomfortable. Like good for you and all that, but can't you guys do it at home or something? If I were in a public place and a guy proposed to his gf in front of everybody, I'd probably die of second hand cringe.

Yes, and the elaborate setups where they involve whole families and then post it on social media. It just makes it seem like a performance.

Which is another thing I wanna talk about. It seems kind of manipulative in a way. Like you've got all these people watching while your partner pours out his/her heart out. What are you gonna do if you're not ready for it? You're gonna reject him/her in front of all these people?
