Maybe my perception is skewed since I've never actually seen one irl and my knowledge comes mainly from American TV shows, but I've always found the idea of proposing in a public space (like a restaurant) really uncomfortable. Like good for you and all that, but can't you guys do it at home or something? If I were in a public place and a guy proposed to his gf in front of everybody, I'd probably die of second hand cringe.

It can be, but it’s funny in a twisted way if one of them springs it on the other and they either seem hesitant or outright deny them.
Which is another thing I wanna talk about. It seems kind of manipulative in a way. Like you've got all these people watching while your partner pours out his/her heart out. What are you gonna do if you're not ready for it? You're gonna reject him/her in front of all these people?

I don't get it either bro, It's literally this but apparently not cringe because woman.
