To me, the problem is that Earth’s technological power level at this point makes a Stargate continuation basically Star Trek. The guns and a bit of scavenged tech vs. aliens bit is what makes the SG1 premise work best.
They tried to fix this with overpowered Ori to make Earth an underdog again, but it didn’t really work the same. They also suffered from the lack of RDA in a main role and they don’t really build new TV stars like that anymore.
I dunno, it’s not impossible for a new show to work but it’s hard and I don’t have any faith in Amazon.
I mean they could do a continuation. Where instead of the government working in the shadows everything comes out and all of society has to deal with
1. Aliens are real and the government has known for awhile now
2. Oh yeah, and we are going to build a space navy now.
How does the international system function in this new paradigm? Russia and China are aware of the situation and even got there hands on the tech too. A new Arms race seems inevitable, as the major nations of the world start scrambling to build their space forces, followed by a land grab of nearby habitable planets to set up new colonies.
This could be a FASCINATING scenario that hasn't really been played with before. Almost ALL modern SciFi assumes "Earth under one world government" as a precondition for the sci fi future of interstellar travel.
Interstellar Travel becoming a thing, along with space warships and wat not with the current international system still in place would be a new take on the genre that could be really cool to explore. The enemy would be less the evil aliens and more "ourselves". How does America handle a situation in which its enemies now have even bigger planet destroying weapons, and the entire galaxy is opening up for colonization and exploration by America's rivals.
In the hands of a competent team, this sort of continuation of SG-1 would be cool.
Unfortunately it's in Amazon's hands, so we will probably get a hard or soft reboot, with more girl bosses and based black men.
