Twitter and other online platforms are shutting down efforts to reveal the names of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) employees following the backlash against the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Developer Sam Lavigne, who claims to be an adjunct professor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, created a database on GitHub that revealed the names of more than 1,500 ICE agents -- with the data scraped from the LinkedIn business networking site.

In a now-deleted Medium post, Lavigne justified the database, saying, “As ICE continues to ramp up its inhumane surveillance and detention efforts, I believe it’s important to document what’s happening, and by whom, in any way we can.”

But the blogging platform suspended the post detailing the information on the grounds of "doxxing" – the intentional publication of personal information -- Lavigne told the Verge.

GitHub explained in a statement why it removed the information about ICE agents.

“We removed the project because it violates our community guidelines,” a GitHub spokesperson said. “In general, we have policies against use of GitHub for doxxing and harassment, and violating a third party’s privacy.”

Twitter also began cracking down on accounts that tweeted information about ICE employees. Russel Neiss, a coder, created an account that automatically revealed information from the database, BuzzFeed reported. The database is reportedly now being circulated in a form of publicly accessible Google document.

Lavigne told the Verge that though he thinks the "doxxing" concerns raised by the database he created are valid, he believes “the information is already out there, and if people want to embark on individual campaigns of harassment, then they’re going to be doing that no matter what.”

Fox News reached out to New York University asking for a comment.

The effort to identify ICE employees coincided with Tuesday's harassment of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who was forced to leave a Mexican restaurant in Washington, D.C., after socialist activists surrounded her and yelled “Shame!” and other comments.

President Donald Trump was also subject to protests on Tuesday. On his way to House Speaker Paul Ryan's office, a congressional intern yelled, "Mr. President, F--k you!" across the Capitol Rotunda.

He then faced several members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), who gathered outside Trump’s meeting with Republican lawmakers who tried to come up with a legislative solution to the controversial family separation policy at the border. After Trump left the meeting, the Democratic officials heckled him and held signs.

This seems like a really ridiculous place to try and hop in, but I guess WikiLeaks can't piss the government off any more than it already does, so fuck it. I am deeply curious as to why they dumped this info out there, though. Running around doxing low-ranking government employees generally isn't their focus. This feels weirdly separated from how they usually do things.
Wikileaks’ image is shit amongst the liberal crowd because Assange posted the DNC emails and went after Hillary and not Trump in their eyes.

They’re trying to kiss ass and make up for it.

Yeah, I get that they're pretty much just a bunch of crazy anarchists, but it just completely caught me off guard to see them whip back around and throw that information back into the fray. Of all the places for Wikileaks to pop its head up, this was not the place I expected to see it happen.

I thought WikiLeaks was supposed to leak important documents, like about government corruption, not all the people working for border patrol and have zero say on the policies they enforce.

I love how people like this claim to be better and more humane than Trump.

Then they go on to do this to low level people just trying to do their jobs and then proclaim Barron Trump should be tossed in a cell and raped multiple times.

Also...many of the border patrol are second generation Hispanic immigrants who know what uncontrolled illegal immigration does to their communities.
And the vitriol they have for border jumpers would make a white supremacist double take.

I imagine the vitriol comes from knowing that the assholes who hop the border instead of getting in legally, and the assholes who make Mexico a shithole, are one and the same. I can't imagine the stories a second-generation immigrant from Mexico would hear about their parent's living conditions in their country of origin - specifically the kind of stories about the people they didn't want to have to live around any more.

Assange/WikiLeaks doesn't give a fuck and they leak whatever and criticize anybody in power. Partisans seem to always be deeply shocked or confused when their side gets fucked with by WL after getting a false sense of security that "oh they went after MY enemies, so my people are safe now."

That being said I can't wait for all the hypocritical anti-dox twitter brigades getting salty that they're not allowed to dox ICE personnel on twitter.

It's not so weird. Like @Feline Darkmage said they are bipartisan, and a great deal of WikiLeaks employees are of the "information deserves to be free" persuasion.

The only reason it strikes me as being so odd is because usually they at least try to paint a thin veneer over the top of it to present it as information that's being leaked to shed light on government malfeasance. Even Collateral Murder--for all the shit-mess it left in its wake and for being solely responsible for saddling us with that jack-wagon Chelsea Manning-- was at least presented in a way that made you go, "Alright, maybe there's a couple things here we should probably talk about."

This is just straight-up painting a target on the back of everyone on the list, though. Not just from from normal crazies or protestors, but any of the gang members or smugglers who'd be keenly interested in getting their hands on an ICE agent's home address. That's what's making me tilt my head at this one. I just can't see their "We're doing the right thing" angle this time.

These faggots are working real hard to make me rethink hating the DHS for the last 15 years. I guess I'm on team nazi now.

So this is a question for the LegalKiwis, but should some nutjob or gang kill someone on this list how liable would this idiot professor and wikileaks be?

Wikileaks not so much, but the professor who was directly responsible for creating this list would be held liable to an extent.

This is where I kind of am on this as well.

I won't claim to be the foremost scholar on the totality of content that Wikileaks puts out, but in my experience the vast majority of what I come in contact with relates to the people actually in charge of making decisions, or making decisions based on corruption and control etc.

This is just "Here's a list of people working for ICE, without care for job titles or whether they even like their job." etc.

It's simultaneously something Wikileaks very much trades in, yet still feels intensely out of character for them.

For what it's worth, we all know how the internet works. That information once published can never be unpublished and whoever happens to be the host at the time is largely inconsequential, so you can't blame Wikileaks for the inital publication of the information.

For someone who hates Trump’s “concentration camps” he does love a system that created horrible prison camps for people who did nothing wrong. I guess he didn’t read Gulag Archipelago. In other words, get the chopper ready he’s getting a ride.

Regarding the doxing, I believe trump mentioned that ICE deals with MS13. So I think this guy has probably put a lot of ICE agents and families at more risk. If it’s not MS13 then it’s some other cartel and believe me South American cartels do not fuck around. They’ll fuck up anyone even newborns in the most gruesome way possible. So good job buddy you’ve helped the worst crime gangs. I hope you’re happy.

Of course he's happy because he's fighting 'Ze Nazis'

He's standing, smiling and giving the thumbs up, next to a symbol that oversaw the deaths of millions. You think he gives a fuck about the deaths of a few dozen more?

I think this guys just needs a dose of reality. He's used to living in a cushy modern world, where the worst thing that could happen to you is being cold-shouldered or maybe having eggs thrown at your house. When he doxed those agents, he didn't think he was endangering anyone. At most, I reckon he was trying to shame or scare them into quitting. Maybe setting them up to be pranked or something by "well-meaning" protestors. He has no idea what kind of brutal savagery humans are capable of.

Look at him. He's never seen bloodshed in his whole life. He cannot possibly imagine what kind of hell people can bring on one another.

They just want to stick it to the "institution" trying to restrict the flow of information. On a basic level, they exist only to spite people trying to keep info out of the public eye, which they've accomplished I suppose.

You'd think, that at some point, when multiple informants of yours end up mysteriously dead after a leak, they'd understand that some things don't and shouldn't matter to the public.

Idgaf where Joe Blow the gate guard stuck in Arizona fucking lives and neither should anyone else. They deal with illegals, kilos of coke, cartels, and MS-13? I really don't want to know where he lives because if I know, everyone else knows.

Them leaking shit like this is how people get killed, regardless of their bullshit intentions.
