This is classic PR. A 236% increase sounds like a lot until they tell you that the previous programming was infomercials or some shit. Notice they are not revealing the metrics that actually matter, such as total listeners and how many listened to the entire show.

Cumia is straight up lying about this deal. He said he was surprised at how quickly WABC came to him with a syndication offer. In fact the reason WABC even recruited him (for mere pennies, by his own admission) is that they are desperate for money. Syndication was a baked-in assumption of the deal. Anthony is trying to make it sound like his first show hit it so far out of the park that WABC broke precedent to lock him down.

Cumia isn’t wrong when he says it’s cringe for people to take a runny dump over this deal. The stalwarts of this edge of the mediaverse really care what other people think and assume others do as well.

The deal isn’t inherently a joke. It’s all about whatever Cumia can make of it. He knows he’s not likely to go back to his previous level of compensation or fame. But so what? He should just hide away and turn down opportunities that seem fun to him?

Opie is almost as much of a POS as Cumia is.

I am not an Opie defender lol... But he is kinda right all things considered with the current state of terrestrial radio (doing this since he was 18* period, mannnnnnnnn). Implying that most stations that aren't crappy top 40 pop stations, and or sports talk, Stations that are like WABC are desperate to have Ant but I honestly figure that it's because who is gonna listen to an AM radio station with a bunch of nobodies spewing the same politics.

It’s easy to be “right” if you shit all over other people’s opportunities. The one thing Cumia is right about is having the attitude that an opportunity is what you make of it.

By Opie’s logic he should just sit on his ass 24/7 playing video games and drinking beer. And what would that accomplish?

I can't imagine being a 62-year-old man waking up and streaming to 20 people every morning, going off of superchats, and just bringing up Ant and his opportunities as he has nothing else to talk about.

Like go fuckin' be Unleashed NYC or whatever "normal" early 60s men do in their spare time.

Not gonna lie: I enjoy Opie harassing NYC residents. Him livestreaming from inside St. Patrick's a few months ago was funny in a meta sort of way.

Not to mention that many listeners probably tuned in out of a curiosity factor. Ant hasn't been on radio in over 10 years and probably have no idea what he's been up to since. let's see how he's doing in 6 months.

Hell, his metrics will take a giant nosedive this weekend now that anyone who was vaguely interested heard what a fucking snooze it was.

Still blows my mind that anyone hired him to talk politics. No one has ever heard Ant’s political takes and thought, “Wow, nobody else is saying this, let alone with such sharp wit!”

That said, the right is full of boomers who will tune in to anyone still bellyaching about cancel culture. Jack Scalfani would just love Ant’s takes, but it’s too much to hope for this particular cow crossover.
