Considering how much post-merger O&A I've listened to and enjoyed, I do not agree. They still had great regular guests, Jocktober, and some excellent bits such as Jimcy. Hell, Louis CK's famous Donald Rumsfeld interview was in 2011.

How are we disagreeing? I listened to the Sirius era live. They had great shit happen throughout their time at Sirius, but the energy was dead 75% of the time instead of the usual 40ish% of the time. I know there might be some to claim it was never that bad, but radio IS like that. Even Stern in his prime had a similar 40ish% amount of meh per week.

Perhaps I am more easily entertained. I guess I took a stronger stance than necessary, so I apologize for that.

It was dead a lot of the time. Which is why they would often default to turning into the Youtube video show to pad the time.

This had a lot to do with why I eventually stopped being a subscriber. And as much as I hate niggers, I got sick of Nana's rants about them everyday.

Whenever Opie wasn't around, the shows always devolved into Anthony politisperging for four hours and screaming at callers, interspersed with Jimmy's one-off characters.

That's what the troglodytes like best, hours and hours of two tranny fuckers making loud noises. Opie tried to bring some variety to the show and no one, including Nana, forgave him for that.

Whats frustrating is people shitting on the radio bits. Yeah.. that's what you do to keep people engaged. The radio wasn't built for dip shits sitting and breaking it down minute by minute, it was built for commuters, office workers who still had to do the work because the machines didn't do it for them yet, and construction workers. It was for moms and wives doing housework, dads and husbands doing yard work, or home repairs. Dead air was expected and the job was to keep people engaged well enough that they don't switch over to the competition.

Anthony started hating the callers when they started shitting on him over having Spazz's sloppy seconds sitting in his lap during the fucking show. He hated it so much he coerced the people who had the archives of the HOTTEST YEAR in O&A history wipe the files from the internet. When they came to XM he was all in with being professor Anthony for the midwits, but again, started hating the callers when they would call him out on being dumb as a sack of rocks.

The Opie haters dislike bits and dislike callers.. so how the fuck do they know about O&A? Better yet, why do they even care about radio when that was radio during its hottest point in modern time when it had to compete against 8 tracks, then cassettes, then CDs in the car, and cable TV at home? Crazy radio bits, wacky and scary callers, some real many fake. That's also why we liked it. It was dumb entertainment we could zone out to without having to flip cassettes or swap CDs.

Wait, is this the same WABC that Howard Stern and Don Imus broadcasted on?
I think.

77 WABC is now owned by John Catsimatidis. According to the lineup, they syndicate a few programs from Fox and host their own shows by Bo Smedrley (Rush Limbaugh's token black conservative), Joe Piscopo (from Club Piscopo who O&A torn apart), Anthony Weiner (who O&A leaked nudes of), Cindy Adams (some random journalist O&A bashed), Curtis Sliwa (who absolutely hated O&A). This is so much like the final episode of Seinfeld with characters from the past coming back for comeuppance, all they need is Terry Clifford and MC Serch. Poor Ant is walking into a hornet's nest

Her son being an r/O&A mod was such an awesome twist. You couldn't write that shit.

Why would anyone hire Anthony? He does zero prep and will not be able to keep this job before calling someone a nigger and getting fired. I just hope he takes callers so I can call in and ask about Sue Lightning.

hope to hear a story in the near future about how a bunch of washed up celebrities beat a pockmarked drunk italian to death

Bro, he's going on a terrestrial radio station owned by ABC?
ABC sold off the station back in 2006. It's currently owned by a conservative billionaire, John Catsimatidis, who bought it back in 2019.

Not going to lie, as an active listener of WABC, this news is like whiplash to me.

Also, Sliwa and Weiner have left WABC for the time being to pursue various positions in NYC politics. (Sliwa running for mayor btw)
