Is anyone keeping up with the Opie drama on Twitter? He's basically calling Ant out saying Ant ruined O&A, That Faggot PR comedian was talking about trying to get the O&A guys back together but Opie just wont do it.
On air opie sucked but he was the most real person out of all of them.
Fuck Sam. Fuck Jim. Those two 'men' are whats wrong with modern man. No spine, obsessed with pop culture, fair weather fans of whatever is cool. That show turned into the View.
This is my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.
Anthony resents Opie for not doing enough to prevent his firing. Opie
did go to bat for Anthony, but there were two problems: first, Anthony did everything that he did in the middle of the night when no one could do damage control. That means all Opie could do is beg the company to let the controversy die down. Anthony has never, ever apologized for the Twitter rant and comments, nor has he ever acknowledged that this was
his mistake that
he made. At the end of the day, that is what ended the Opie & Anthony Show.
The second problem is that Opie & Anthony post-WAAF were not friends. They got older, became different people, and Opie has commented that he thought the show was on its way out by 2013. Anthony was happy to keep re-signing with SiriusXM and Opie always wanted to re-negotiate the contract. The idea of moving the O&A brand was not in the cards given the difference in business prerogatives between Opie and Anthony. Anthony wanted to move it to Compound and Opie saw the writing on the wall that the Compound was, as a business, a shitshow. This meant that Opie was not willing to quit in protest in defense of Anthony. Of course, Anthony does not blame Jim for sticking around because they are friends and because Jim made considerably less money than Opie.
Another thing that destroyed their relationship was the revelation that a lot of the online trolling that Opie suffered was at the direction of Anthony, whose activities are laid bare in Beige Frequency's documentary. This was
while Opie and Anthony were still working together, and only got worse after the firing. A lot of the pests blamed Opie and went after him. Anthony, being a resentful drunk, did nothing to stop it and in some cases encouraged it using sock accounts.
Now we have an Opester who is pissed about the trolling. Opie and Anthony almost made up a few years ago when Ant got through to Opie's show and they talked for a while, but my understanding is that some of the trolling resumed after that and Opie blames Anthony for that. I do not know if Anthony had anything to do with the post-2016 conversation trolling, but it does not matter because that's how Opie took it. You also had Anthony going down the alt right rabbithole that no doubt soured the idea of a reunion.
Then Opie got fired in 2017. Jim and Opie had their falling out as well, but it was more cordial - they both acknowledged that they grew apart and did not want to work together. I don't think Opie blames Jim for the firing, but he has made it clear he got sick of Jim doing characters for the express purpose of annoying Opie. The real backstabber in this story was Sam Roberts. Scuttlebutt is that Sam took full advantage of the situation in a gross way and Opie was not happy since he made Sam's career.
Opie became the odd one out of the whole crew and they all started clowning on him, which Opie did not take well or attempt to straighten out. I've seen clips where Anthony, Jim, E-Rock, and so on were shown something in the context of "OPIE IS TAKING SHOTS AT US!" but he really wasn't, and then those guys spent an hour or more taking pretty vicious shots at Opie. Usually this was Troy, Danny, or Sam in the producer spot stirring shit.
There are lots of ways to criticize Opie but, from my point of view, he's the least shitty person in the whole story.
