You guys ever notice how 50+ white guys are weirdly into trannies? Like that demographics specifically is way more into trannies then even zoomers are. It's disturbing.

I disagree they were all on a level playing field and that's why I said co-workers because, no one was watching streaming content back then hell, Netflix was barely a thing. Just because he started it doesn't make him the best at creating/building/leading the site.

And yes Greg was waaaay fucking better with the logistics than Ant ever was or will be.
 
Looks like Nana has decided to make sure (as if it wasn't already) that he and Bill Burr will never be making up. Nia really has always seemed like a stupid cunt and Burr has increasingly become a bitch to be fair.

Two fags fighting. Never liked Burr to begin with but Ant's acting like Burr even cares. Didn't Club Soda Kenny push Anthony away from Burr recently at some live event?

It's pretty shocking that Ant thinks that Bill would need someone else to tell him that Ant isn't a good person to associate with.

Like Bill (if left alone and unmarried) would cash those huge Disney and Netflix checks and then go "let me go on Anthony's absolutely racist and unhinged podcast listened to by a few hundred people".

To be fair to Nana, even pre-Twitter Anthony would have been too offensive to reach mainstream success in 2023. Look at the Cum Town guys; They suck, they aren't funny, and are just a way for 30 year old Bernie voters to feel daring when they say the word "retard", but any time they hit mainstream news, they get shouted down massively because even their fake-edgy bit is too much these days. Nick Mullen would have probably had a mainstream career in the 2000s, he can't now.

Anthony didn't do himself any favors, but to act like there hasn't been this massive sterilization of culture since the mid-2010s is just foolish. Every single comic, not just Anthony, has had to neuter their routines. If Stern's like how he is now, and Jim Norton's now calling Dylan Mulvaney a "trans woman", what hope is there for anybody?

I don't get the hate, i have seen the Beige documentary and all and he has his flaws but i still find him funny when he is riffing off the "right" people. Can someone teach me to hate him as much as people in here? As a Swede i have no cultural connection to American radio but i found the Opie and Anthony show a couple years ago and it is perfect to listen to while trying to sleep. When they discuss movies and King Kong in general make me chuckle under my quilt.

I still find him pretty funny, he's a scumbag, sure, but he's a funny scumbag. His life is falling apart around him, and if you don't like him or thing he's some evil awful racist guy I guess you can seize on that and act like you are better than him.

Opie was the guy making sure things worked in the background and all Anthony has ever done was the jokes. Cumia has never had any kind of business acumen and because he got millions of dollars rained down on him, he assumed he was smart enough to handle running a business. Few businesses last beyond a few months for a reason. I think if he had a business manager that would tell him no for any stupid idea he would come up, Compound Media would be in much better shape today.

I think O&A was on borrowed time and Anthony’s tweets gave them cover. SiriusXM only seems to accommodate Howard Stern. I get desperate emails from them to rejoin for a dollar a month. Satellite radio would probably collapse if rental car companies stopped including it in their vehicles, they’ve been hanging on by a thread these last several years. O&A was not enough to keep things profitable and had no leverage which is why Opie didn’t last much longer either.

But I do mean there's a huge difference between doing O&A in it's heyday with a booker to smooth things over "Hey it's raunchy but it's still FM Radio and their reach is in the millions" vs going on Anthony's "I hate black people, the show" with a reach of a few hundred.

I don't know much about CumTown but Stern and Norton have always been spineless cowards - with Norton shamelessly latching onto whomever he thought would help him most in his career (be it Dice, Anthony, or Opie) and Stern pulling constant nonsense to appear edgy without doing so (and then his disavowal of all that stuff later).

I think it’s a legacy of how brutal the New York comedy scene and the O&A show could be at times. Those comedians could find a way to make a joke out of you blinking too fast. O&A’s audience, the ones called the Pests, could be particularly vicious. Calling into radio shows with prank phone calls because that program ragged on O&A. Spamming the Facebook pages of Jockobtered radio stations with outrageous and pornographic imagery, writing comments mocking the hosts for an odd quirk or because they were fat.

It should not have been a surprise that the Pests would turn their gaze inward to Opie and Anthony. They were listening to a show that routinely mocked Lady Di to her face about her alcoholism and that her husband killed himself by standing in front of a train. They ridiculed Terry Clifford for being a fat woman and Bobo for his penis surgeries. They riffed on Rich Vos being a slurry Jew, Bob Kelly for looking like a discount Buddha statue, and Jim Norton for his love of tranny prostitutes.

What was a surprise was how Anthony was not able to handle the same mockery that he dished out for years. He acted like what we would now call a Karen, demanding that the O&A subreddit be shut down. On top of that was the revelation of how much shit could be used to mock him. He was a craggily faced, alcoholic racist with an obsession with firearms but the catfishing with Self-Cutting Girl, his relationship with Sue Lightning, and the fact that he wasn’t around for his mother’s last days (FEED NANA) were all new.

The Pests knew that Anthony was watching them make fun of him and that he could not do a damn thing to shut them up, allowing them to be as brutal as possible in their mockery. Perhaps that’s how some people grew to really hate Anthony. Perhaps it’s out of nostalgia for how the O&A show used be and getting angry for Anthony no longer being what he once was seen as.

Either way, punching out!

I still listen to their old show and laugh my ass off. If I'm in the car with friends that have never heard of them, I'll play Jimmy's gay history bit. I don't hate ant, and I had the same attitude as you when I first found this thread, but after the show ended, most of their lives kind of spiraled into something they would have hated in their prime. I don't think it takes away from the quality of their old material.

It wasn't a surprise that the Pests would turn on them in the end. Both Opie and Anthony were well aware that this would happen and even said so back when their radio show was at its peak.

This wasn't a surprise either. Before reddit even existed Anthony hated the old wackbag.com forums to the point he would never mention the website by name on air.

The hate comes from ruining that - the material that you do like.

If Anthony could have been smart enough to pretend to be a normal human being we'd have a few more years of quality radio. Anthony for many years was very good about "skirting a line" but at some point he just said fuck it and tanked the show until he was finally let go for tweeting things that no sane person with any kind of job would tweet under their real name. Even if you aren't famous - if you went into your normie job and sent out an email that said "Black people are not humans" - you would 100% expect to be fired inside of 30 minutes.

The old material isn't ruined per se - but some things are tainted just by time. Ant's fag bashing is weird now that he's a confirmed closet case, most references are at a minimum 10 years old, etc.
