If Opie brought nothing to the show why are TASC and The Jim and Sam Show unlistenable failures? Also Jimmy and Anthony aren't insecure bitches? They both have incel mental breakdowns whenever rejected by women.

Can you stop pretending that Opie is even remotely comparable to Anthony or even Jimmy? Opie being a lackluster radio host pales in comparison to Anthony being a violent, vindictive pedophile.
There is more to life and what makes a person good than whether or not they made you laugh on an old radio show.

Even Jim has said when Opie wasn't insecure, he loved him on the show, and it's completely true. A relaxed Opie not feeling outdone by Jim/Ant was completely fine, and he could be funny when he wanted to be. His Fez joke in this genuinely caught me off guard the first time and I laughed for a full 30 seconds. It's arguably Opie's best moment. All three of them turning on this porn star was great.

Imagine if they were like that every day during the XM/Sirius era. If you listen to old WNEW clips, Opie is pretty much fine, he's even pretty funny a few times when they sent Lady Di/Marion to the MTV VMAs just before 9/11. Jim becoming third mic really just rubbed him the wrong way, along with Ant divorcing his wife. It's just unfortunate. From what I know getting fired from WNEW and coming back on XM, where they weren't really wanted in the first place, and their listenership in 2004 was much, much less than it was on WNEW, I think pissed them all off a bit. From what I know they were very lucky to get the XM deal, the head people didn't want them, I think they probably wanted Stern.
I can't jump on the constant Opie hatred bandwagon because his biggest problem was just not relaxing and being fine with Ant and Jim riffing with each other and other comics during the show. He's not a pedophile, rapist, worm, or somebody who has spent the last 10 years posting black crime stats over and over daily online with no real point to it other than reminding you of what we already know. He has a nice beach house and penthouse apartment, the worst thing is he's deeply insecure. Compared to Ant and Jim that's virtually nothing.

This thread tends to cycle the same topics often but Opie is fine. He was never the funniest but he was never supposed to be - he just kept the machine running.
When he was missing - it was very sorely felt and some of the most unlistenable radio ever produced was when Anthony was at the helm (See also - Compound Media). Sure, every bit wasn't a hit - some of the were cut short, some went on too long, some were given too big a slot on the show (like Bobo, christ) - but he generally knew how to keep it all moving and what pieces fit together for the show.
Opie is the only cast member that gets better with hindsight - because of how much the masks slipped off of Anthony and Jim; revealing how much they are just angry, retarded, and spiteful children who needed to be tard wrangled behind the scenes constantly, with Opie doing the wrangling. The worst Opie did was step on some bits, push his brother's restaurant way too hard, and put too many retards on the show. Him shitting on Danny Ross is much more favorable now that Danny turned out to be such a miserable cunt as well.

The thing none of them ever want to admit is that they really only worked as a trio. Jim and Sam is dead air, Compound Media is just a less entertaining Don Black's Stormfront Radio half the time, it's to the point where Opie's streams are the most entertaining ones because he always gets into shit with viewers even after saying I DUN WANNA TALK ABOUT DA SHOW TODAY.
This is a good example of what I'm saying. This is even after the Greggshells incident, and it's pretty great. You can see on Opie's face he's enjoying it a lot. It's so funny Mecurio was Ant's co-host that day, of all people.

For me, Opie's biggest sin was his need to interject callers randomly. Radio show callers are fat and I would not have sex with them.

It's that on top of he'd think that the worst callers were hilarious. I didn't mind callers when it was done correctly, but you're right, he'd always pick the worst times to do it and it'd kill the flow of the show. Even Ant and Jim make fun of it.

I always saw it as him trying to copy Ron Bennington. He had a knack for knowing the perfect time to take a call which was generally when it would be most inappropriate or uncomfortable. Ron knew how to read the room so it came off as funny and well timed. Mother Hucker never was good at reading the room so taking calls felt more random and often interrupted to flow in the room.

Also Ron knew which callers added to the bit instead of taking from it. From what I remember every caller during the cakehorn thing was perfect. When Anthony got fired, the first 15 minutes of Ron & Fez was just callers making jokes about it and they were all good.
