Here's some salt for you from an SJW I've been watching having a meltdown on Twitter awhile ago:
"BioWare made a fantastic game"
More like it was nu-BioWare trying to cash in on other games like Destiny and Warframe which ironically enough those two also went down the shitter and their own attempt at this type of game ended up being a badly balanced snoozefest. :julay:
customizing your ironman was cool i guess

Hahahahaha

I like the wording there, "allowed". Given that this is EA it's likely entirely appropriate, too.

Given how fundamentally making something live service fucks up gameplay, doesn't this basically mean that they are rebooting development?

And didn't they reboot a few years ago to make it live service in the first place?

I thought Inquisition really sucked and that was a single player RPG so I don't expect Dreadwolf or whatever they call it to be any good.
Cisquisition was an unholy fusion of Nu-Bioware writers re-doing/ignoring all the lore to make the universe more woke, and almost DA2-tier recycling of assets to grind the same sidequests over and over between a few half-decent setpieces that constitute the main plot.
This studio is never making another good game, and whatever they release is probably going to be their last before EA takes them to the mass grave behind their headquarters and Old Yellers them.

People have been saying that Bioware are one more fuck up away from being shitcanned for about the last 4 or 5 games.

I swear EA are just keeping them alive as a fuck you to whoever made that "where are we going papa EA" comic like 10 years ago.

Their moves are getting increasingly desperate. Andromeda killed off the only Bioware spinoff created under EA's reign (the Austin branch actually pre-dates the acquisition), and Anthem was transparently EA making a studio do something outside their wheelhouse to chase trends.
Everything about that Schrier piece related to Anthem's production reeks of a studio whose core creation process is utterly fucked, but I haven't seen them clearing house and forcing the culture change necessary to get out of that pit. EA having the B-team shit out a lens flare-y remaster of their most popular games while the main studio lingers in pre-production hell for another 5 years, rebooting their game's vision again, just looks like the last cash grab before the inevitable.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the game being any good regardless, given the abysmal quality of writers they have.

This reeks of EA giving them rope to hang themselves. No one can accuse papa EA of being big bad evil publisher forcing MTX now.

At this point we need to stop defending developers while EAs track record of killing studios is horrible it’s also odd that apparently EA is actually not as over bearing as people claim. They apparently have stopped forcing the use of Frostbite yet these studios still do it for reasons?????

DICE/ BioWare are doing these mistakes themselves, and frankly with Apex Legends coming out it’s made me despise respawn look at respawn devs react to criticism on twitter imo EA is too light on control and frankly needs a tighter grip.

Honestly what they often claim to be over-bearing behaviour on part of publishers can often be interpreted as standard project management stuff aka tard-wrangling a bunch of autistic developers who think they're more important than they really are. Setting deadlines and upholding quality control is just as important. Else you just get Star Citizen instead. (That game can be a classical case study in what not to do in a project.)

Giving control to studios only works if they actually deliver, and how many studios can boast that?

fucking this. it's easy to blame EA since they are shit, but no publisher that is a slavedriver only in it for the shekels would allow that behavior that has been going on for fucking years you see from bioware and dice. maybe once, and then they get taken behind the cuckshed like activision does if they don't bring in the numbers. yet bioware has been producing shit for close to a decade and dice has constantly fucked up battlefield and only got lucky with 1 and battlefront being a star wars game (bf4 was liquid shit at launch and forced ea to spend wast amounts of time and money on post-launch support to save the IP, and was done by dice LA/visceral, not those swecucks).

and even if ea came down from above and said "make me a destiny killer", bioware still fucking failed because they were retarded enough to not even allow talk about the game they were copying. how the fuck would you copy something without looking at it? if you're too shit as a developer to separate the good from the bad for you own game you need to GTFO.
you could see the same shit with TOR where even hardcore casuals have a better grasp of the mmo concepts, or when they tried to turn mass effect into a poor mans cover shooter.

bioware's only claim to fame was good characters, stories and the universes they created, but that hasn't been a thing for fucking ever. their gameplay was always at best acceptable.

biggest irony however is that anthem's gameplay (and andromeda's apparently) is actually quite good and would've been much easier to salvage, yet failed even harder because nu-bioware is just shit. as @Absolutego said the same retards are still in charge, nothing's gonna change.

Nah Activision just turns you into a support studio for COD. Which I guess if you want a stable job is nice?

all things considered it probably is, there might be crunch involved and shit pay, but you're still making games with not a lot of idpol shit. you hardly ever hear an activision dev making an ass of himself on twitter (if you hear from them at all, wouldn't be surprised if they have a strict "no social media" rule, think dc handled it the same way), and since it's all about results (if the tim schafer story is anything to go) by danger hair diversity hires can't shit up the place for long, if they even make it in at all.

besides, not a lot of gay romance in cod, and they got blizzard as a containment company.

Bioware is sunsetting Anthem's servers come January 12, 2026. The game will be delisted come August 15, 2025.

Q: Has anyone else at BioWare been affected by these changes?

A: No, the sunsetting of Anthem has not led to any layoffs.

Well, that's reassuring. I wonder if Stop Killing Games would help with Anthem's closure.

I honestly didn't even think that the servers were still up! I figure they have been shut down years ago.

I wonder if the assest could be sold off in fire sale and used to create a more single player focused game.
