Why is it Jason Schreier can do good articles with in-depth research and observations. But then it's like the next minute he's writing some pathetic puff piece, or covering some devs ass? He's like Jimquistion, half the time you think he's getting paid to advertise, then the other half of the time, he's writing real articles, so he gets the clout for people to pay for advertising again.

Because doing investigative journalism doesn't pay much. That's partially why Richard Lewis has announced that he would stop doing that because in the end no one cares and nothing will change in the esports scene, all he gets in return are blacklists (Riot and Blizzard), insults and death threats.
Articles about a character being a tranny or how a playerbase is toxic is what brings the clics and the money.

ea pullin that watch dogs pre-order shit

Because he's still a writer at Kotaku, covering dev ass is what they do.

It would be like asking why a Forbes writer writes financial sector stuff sometimes.

Well that's why I wonder, why would you bother then? If I was working in a job where my title was "Journalist" but my actual job was "Bad Tabloid Writer" then how much self respect can you have, when someone shitposting on 4chan can basically come up with the same article you can in 5 minutes?

Unlike his colleagues at Kotaku, he has a background in journalism. Why is he doing this? Because it can bring some prestige into that website of progressive bloggers and he's the editor in chief so long articles about Bungie or Bioware justify his position at Kotaku.
There's also a reason why he is wearing a suit in his profile pic, it's passive-agressive, he's using that pic since he got an award from the SPJ.

If memory serves wasn’t there something about how the reason why they went with Frostbite is because Bioware was tired of UE3 and FB was their only option. Have a sneaking suspicion that EA gets angry when their devs try to use other engines like Cryengine, Unity, or UE because it means paying royalties to another company. Guessing Respawn’s only allowed to use Source because they’ve likely been using the same build since Titanfall’s launch.

It's been widely reported that EA "pushes" (read as: forces) all of their studios to use Frostbite, despite it being absolute garbage to work with that is missing many of the basic features that you would expect from a competent game engine from what I have heard.

Issue is that it’s made for FPS games and only FPS games. Like say what you will about Bethesda, but at least they don’t force all their studios to use id tech or Creation Engine, because they probably understand that they wouldn’t work too well for games like Rage or Prey

That's only because Bethesda doesn't own any of those studios. They are a subsidiary of ZeniMax, just like id Software and Arkane are. If Bethesda were in charge I could see them doing exactly this type of moronic nonsense.

They are makeing them use forks of Id Tech 5/6 . That is why Dishonored 2 and The Evil Within 2 are such shit when it comes to performance.

At the end of the day, an easy paycheck is an easy paycheck.

Most other "video game journalists" like the perks, travel to conferences, free and early games, and in many cases quid pro quo sex with people attached to developers (aka Gamergate).

Unpopular opinion. I liked Dragon Age inquisition. Especially after I pretended the lesbian elf bitch didn't exist and never talked to her. So much better. The open world stuff was a tad samey, but it was engaging enough that my completionist soul was activated, and the story itself was one of the best in gaming hands down. There was a real pay off for your efforts in the end game when you saw the inquisition you had built march into battle.

Bioware used to understand something. Your game can be grindey as hell, but if there is a payoff at the end for it it will make it worth it.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was fine. It was a bit buggy, and the social justice themes kept oozing as I met certain characters like Dorian and that trans bitch Iron Bull was with, but I was fine with it. It was also the last BioWare game I got.

I actually...ugh...feel some sympathy for EA. They paid the speds at Bioware money for SEVEN YEARS to develop this pile. Its not shocking they were like "Where the fuck is my game?!" and set a hard deadline of March 2019. I would too after spending money for years with nothing to show for it.

We can't forget, though, that all these fucking issues that BioWare was having did start when EA acquired BioWare. When Dragon Age: Origins (which took seven years to make) and Mass Effect 2 were released and received a boatload of money and awards, game development times were crunched, making games of mediocre quality. Then the Frostbite engine was enforced upon BioWare, and they just went downhill from there.

Would they be better off if they weren't bought by EA?

It also had MMO quest design, tumblrized romance focus, ugly as sin character models and the real ending was DLC.

Speaking of Dragon age

I think it's pretty clear bioware is dead and EA is just wearing it's hollowed out corpse to trick people into buying their terrible games. On the bright side it's alwys useful to know if a games going to be a stinker for budgeting.

Whoever's in charge must be deliberately trying to obliterate Bioware. Holy shit, this is too rich.

I imagine whoever's running Bioware atm has had meetings like this both after Andromeda and after Anthem:
But in contrast to this scene and much to the dismay of the guy in charge of Bioware, he gets promoted and receives an even bigger budget to turn out an even bigger turd.

Cisquisition was an offline MMO, Andromeda was Cisquisition in space, Anthem was "what if Andromeda was a 4-player co-op game?" and now DA is Anthem with dragons :story:

Bioware is dead. It's a shambling IP corpse at this point.
