Anthem - EA’s next PR disaster after BF 5

Comparing this to Division 2's open beta, Anthem is absolutely fucked. The only thing Anthem has going for it right now is jetpack, and even that's half arsed.

There is currently a bug where the game removes your dungeons from matchmaking and completely depopulates the freeplay area, even after multiple restarts. No enemies, no resource nodes, nothing.

The subreddit is in uproar about this, yet there are diehards playing it down or saying that bugs should be expected.

Gods, common sense tells me to insub from the reddit but this is a glorious shit pile.

I unabashedly love most of Bioware's library. I was late to the game for BG but I adore it just as much as DA: Origins and ME. Fuck, I'll even die on the "DA2 is good if flawed" hill. Most of the social justice spergery that started cropping up in Inquisition and then Andromeda didn't bother me as much as other people but that's subjective shit and I can certainly see how it'd turn people off writ large.

(Though the deadname have-I-mentioned-I-was-a-tranny shit in ME:A was singlehandedly responsible for ending a play session for me. Fuck I cringed so hard I pulled something.)

All that to say, though: when you repeatedly put out a shit product that you spend six figures on polishing just for marketing purposes, you deserve to go under. I recognize that the waters are muddied in Bioware's case because they're owned by a company with a long history of fucking with established IPs to expand the userbase as widely as possible, and that just scratches the surface of EA's scummy practices. We probably won't know for months if ever how much responsibility lies with EA meddling versus Bioware ineptitude short of picking names out of the credits to point at, and a company with a longevity so akin to a cockroach's as EA isn't going anywhere soon. I don't think Bioware or any developer could survive a one-two punch of consecutive, AAA launch failures. It'll still be bitter to watch them get swallowed up and digested nine-to-twelve months from now. I hope the people there with legitimate talent wind up somewhere better and that EA's only able to retain the dregs for fear of diversity lawsuits. It's all they deserve.

Twitch streamer claims he was vanned for nothing more than farming an area with better drop rates than the rest of the game:

This shit makes Fallout 76 look like a Game of the Year contender.

I believe it. Not only did Bioware/EA do the same shit with ME3 multiplayer because players found a million and a half methods to grind endgame items that made the lootboxes irrelevant, they infamously spent most of its lifespan fighting a futile arms race against min-maxers instead of improving the game. Their motives are so shamelessly transparent.

I guess there's quite a number of people being banned for bullshit reasons, but it's just a special kind of amazing when it happens to people like this guy who's this invested in the game.
Just like the guy who played 900+ hours in Fallout76 who got banned for having good gear.

But I do appreciate how he behaves like a beaten wife. If I was banned for bullshit reasons from a game that I was promoting, I would be furious and I'd let the makers know how I feel and that they have to undo the ban. If nothing was done, I'd rip these assholes a new one.

My theory is, like Destiny, they needed to start from scrap at some point and just did not have the time to actualy put substance into anything, and the enire lootboxes fiasco made the weapon ballance go to shit.

I think the root problem is that their design is a decade obsolete. Anthem feels like the hottest game of E3 2009.

It's a company trying to branch off into a genre they've no experience in (possibly EA forcing them to) and failing to utilize the changes and updates made to vanilla Destiny and The Division that made them less shit despite having plenty of time to.

Destiny and TD were basically the beginning of the looter-shooter as a genre (games like Borderlands and Dead Island came first but the former was the first and for a long time only one while the latter was a massive pile of shit that bombed almost immediately) and thus can use the excuse that they needed time to find their footing to explain why they were utterly terrible at launch. Destiny 2 as well can use the excuse (albeit to a much, much, much less extent). Anthem has none. It's had what, 5, 6 years to observe these other games and learn from them and they didn't. It's like if everyone else has advanced to building houses out of bricks and you're still trying to sell them straw only to realize your mistake and pray you have enough time to fix it before the few remaining dissatisfied customers you still have bail.

They gotta hope that people are stupid and weak-willed enough to stay invested in their game that released (with no excuse) in a vanilla state long enough to make it actually worthwhile enough to play. And that's gonna be extremely difficult to do given they also have to address the numerous bugs and other problems the game has such as the abundance of overly long loading screens that take up half the fucking game or the boring-ass combat that never changes or evolves in any significant manner. The only possible audience I can see for this garbage is super autists who play nothing but looter-shooters but even those are probably just gonna jump ship to TD2 which releases in a couple weeks.

It's almost humanly insulting how generic the game was but people (at least some) got to shade before the sun was out. Nobody seemed liked they knew what the game was supposed to be and this isn't just this game's problem so many games nowadays by mostly AAA developers and publishers have no real direction so they think throwing half baked ideas into a bucket and trying to force it together by mercilously beating it with a sledgehammer will create a full game instead of you know......a broken mess of a bunch of different and vapid ideas.

So not only is the game crap but it shuts off PS4s at random. When that happens too often it fucking wreck your PS4 too.

Imagine being that dumb asshole that actually buys broken shit games like FO76 or Anthem. Then you get banned for suspected hacking after putting in 900 hours or it just fucking destroys your console. It's like the Darwin Awards with video games. If you actually buy Anthem you deserve whatever's coming to you because you're the same kind of stupid fucker who would fall for pyramid schemes. In the future we will have triple A games straight up blowing up consoles with shills on Reddit writing out defenses on their iPhones from the hospital that it's perfectly playable as long as you sit away further from the TV to minimize the bleeding.

Shit, I wonder if this is the PS4 being corrupted from constant unexpected shutdowns or a Red Ring of Death scenario where the PS4 is overheating because of piss poor optimization... I haven't seen a game do this in years, not even eurojank. Bravo Bioware, fucking bravo. I tip my hat to you.

EA hyped the shit out of a game and then they found a way to fuck it up...
Yeah, considering their track record that sounds about right.

I played it and it's fun, I feel like most people are praising it just because they want Respawn to survive until it can make Titanfall 3. Also Wraith makes my willy feel nice. The game feels like a handicapped version of Titanfall 2 without the wall run and stuff but I like the jumpy slide especially when it's paired with Pathfinder, who is the grappling hook guy. I had a good time playing with friends even if I can't kill shit and I keep finding bloody Mozambiques everywhere. Try it out and then fumigate your computer because bloody Origin is holding the game hostage.

EDIT: wrong fucking thread, i was talking about apex legends.
