While its unfortunate that its cg, Duke of Death and his Black Maid's opening duet between the two leads is very cute. Though the premise seems dark, its actually pretty nice romcom if you're looking for one.

Heh, that would be quite a sight to see again.

In all seriousness though, believe it or not, the show, even though it is quite divisive and a bit of a source of mockery in the West, DITF actually still fairly popular over in Japan, and there is actually a decent number of people who want to see a continuation.

Who knows? Maybe after Nishigori finishes his collaboration with Khara on that Idolmaster concept film, he'll go for it. He's probably learned a lot from his time working with Anno on Eva 3.0 + 1.0. I realize that I am one of the very few on this site that is still a fan of it, but dang it all, no matter how flawed it is, the good stuff I found in the show was simply too much for me to just ignore, alongside its untapped story potential.
I feel like you are that Franxx fan that is too deep into the series that you desperately want it to be good so that it does not waste your time, even if it was a great big turd. I mean I have to be frank but you got to let go, you're embarrassing yourself here.

Plus, the Japanese are people of shit-taste themselves, between embracing the awful Idol culture, playing gacha games made by the Chinese, claiming shit that their entry of a certain franchise was too much and their acceptance of LN adaptations past stuff like Spice and Wolf, yeah no I refuse to believe the Japs actually like it, less than even accept it when EVA basically exists.

Oh don't get me wrong, I am fully aware of the flaws it has, especially once it gets to the end. But on the whole, I can't say that I wasn't glad to have seen it, given all the things that I still found worth liking in it, such as the relationship between Hiro and Zero Two. I'm not gonna call it a masterpiece, nor is it one that I'd recommend to others, but I still had fun with it, flaws and all.

And judging by the Japanese community, based on what all I've seen from scrolling through blogs and fanart, alongside reairings and new merchandise, it would appear that, while not the biggest smash hit, it made a decent impression on them as well. It's also funny you brought up Eva, because Franxx's director would go on to be the chief animation director for 3.0 + 1.0, alongside many of the staff of the latter also joining that film's production.

In fact said director is even collaborating with Khara on an Idolmaster concept film. So while my expectations for a continuation or OVA are low, I still wouldn't mind them going back to Franxx one last time. Again, just my thoughts. I fully understand why several don't like the series, as it is heavily flawed.

If you watch all of it, can you report back how it is? I never played the visual novel, but I didn't really like the anime because it came off as too pretentious (especially about its sexuality, which is strange) and grimdark for its own good. The short length didn't help matters.
Puff reporting in,
The anime is shit, but I'm enjoying it, mostly because I liked seeing some key scenes animated. There are too many pantyshots and they somehow made it MORE unrealistic and weird than the VN.
Main problem is it's rushed as hell. VNDB claims the game takes over 50 hours to play. Can't really get that into a 4 hour show. Further, to make it work narratively the stories are butchered together into a weird mess.
I would also like to request that authors at least thinly veil their fetishes.

TL;DR don't watch unless you really enjoyed the games. Keep expectations low.

I had a feeling especially since 8bit sucks as a studio, but everyone else seemed to have liked it and I just didn't really want to bother past Eden of Grisaia. Thanks for clarifying.

I watched Franxx as it was airing and honestly I think everyone was just hoping for le epin Gainax twist to make it eventually be not shit. It was one of the worst anime that I've ever actually had an expectation for. Everyone kept just waiting for it to improve and it never did, and the plot twists other than Zero Two being part dinosaur were pretty predictable. The robot designs weren't boilerplate but they weren't all that interesting other than the main robot, and the faces really were dumb on them.

Shitposting on /a/ when fatboy and ichigo got cucked was the most fun there was to find in that show. The setting was silly, the premise was out there even for an anime, and the climatic battle was a disappointment.

It's really just made me want to replay the game. What seems like insanity when in a 20 minute show can work if you give enough reason for it within the crazy-ass world

Another chapter of that “Joker raises baby-fied Batman” manga is translated.

Darling would have had potential to make another season for me if it hadn't had the awful ending that made all that interesting world building worthless. It was so lazy I stopped caring. Like many that watched the series I'll remember 02 and Hiro but not much else, besides lamenting what could have been a solid sci-fi series.

Nishigori is more well known for working as an animation director since that seems to be his primary skill field, at least looking through his credit breakdown that largely leans towards the animation/design side of production. It wouldn't be weird for them to bring him in for that, but that says nothing about his actually story directorial abilities which I would consider lacking. His working at Gainax early on probably also helped him form a lot of connections since those that also used to work there have moved on to many different studios, wouldn't surprise me if many of them ended up at Khara that could put his name forward for projects.

I mean that isn't super surprising either and probably has nothing to do with the success or failure of Darling. He has been a big part of earlier Idolm@ster series so it'd make sense to bring him back for something new since he has experience with the series. Would be weirder if they didn't have him comeback.

Personally, the "big twist" I wanted was a bigger exploration of their messed up society, which was only really hinted at in the one episode where one of the kids got outside, and the possibility of rebellion arc using the theme of child rebelling against parent. Felt like that was what they were setting up, but then they pulled off the Gainax twist of lol aliens.

The threads and all the memes are what I'll probably remember the fondest out of the whole affair. Goroposting was great along with the fights between the 02 and Ichigo shippers, especially after it became clear the 02 was going to win. I especially remember the rampant shitposting as soon as Alpha was introduced, loved the bit where 02 fans were worried he'd pull a Kaworu with the whole [muffled gay piano in the distance] styled posts, made me sad when his character really went no where.

I swear, its like we went into a whole Franxx griefing thread. Go bitch about it on reddit, KF has standards.

That or the current season is just so fucking dull.
It just shows how badly Franxx dropped the ball. If it kept the same momentum and quality as the first half, it really wouldve been something special. I'm just grateful that nobody brought up the Miku diaper posting from the /a/ threads.

Also this season is just dogshit my nigga. It seems like theres more isekai than ever now.
