so, gintama has come to an end. its pretty crazy i started watching the show back in 2010. its like losing an old friend. you had the good times, the bad times and the sad times. and now, all that exist are the memories of those times. life was so different for me back than. its a bitter sweet feeling but im glad i got some closure.

godspeed my friend. i will never forget you.

I still have to watch the movies based on it. But yeah, watching 2011 Gintama brings back many great memories.

I’m willing to argue that Jack Nicholson’s character said it better than I ever could:

Also Hosada might have had good intentions saying what he said about fictional women being trivialized, but the thing is due to Redo of Healer being on record as one of the most talked about anime(s) in recent memory, I’m surprised as famous as he is that he doesn’t talk about the idea of how male characters get shoehorned or played as a caricature of submissive guy that is not allowed to talk back/have sarcastic quips about women.

Like the MC who hilariously portrayed it in The Fruit of Grisaia:

There's a Grisaia anime?
How have I never heard of this?
Is it any good?
What do they do about the issue of routes?

Not too sure, but when it comes to Yūji’s character, the anime has him do a winner-take-all approach, but he’s not weak-minded into falling in love with any of them.

Either way, he’s just Yūji, but more straightforward than ever before.

I've got some sailing to do. I tend to miss anime, but play more VN's than is strictly considered healthy.

If you watch all of it, can you report back how it is? I never played the visual novel, but I didn't really like the anime because it came off as too pretentious (especially about its sexuality, which is strange) and grimdark for its own good. The short length didn't help matters.

MangaDex just had a ton of its manga post updates that it missed while it was down and appears to have caught up with a lot of series there.

There will never be an anime that fills the void that Gintama has left with. Meanwhile the surrounding have been placed with the malignant tumor known as Isekai and LN adaptations. God help us all.

Lol, and I was just about to mention Gintama. After 260 episodes so far, I can honestly say that my wife and I haven't watched a more entertaining anime. Also some bangin' openings and endings.

I made it like 50 episodes into Gintama and I don't think I laughed a single time, I also don't really remember finding any episodes especially funny.
Can someone explain the appeal of this show to me as a non-Japanese audience member? I remember thinking watching this show as an American was the equivalent to watching South Park as a non-American. I don't get it but I want to since it obviously has cultural relevancy to the western anime fanbase.

TBF it seems to be a popular opinion that early Gintama is slow and skippable. Idk, then again I have no qualms about watching Star Trek TNG season 1.

It is kinda surreal when you consider Gintama is gorilla's first serialized work.
There has been other rookie authors that stuck gold first try but the only other person I can think of who managed to run for so long is Oda (yes One Piece is technically his first serialized work)

I think it'll be the Chinese girl.

LL Superstar is also going out of its way to be different than the other groups with only 5 girls who are all first years, so I wouldn't say it's being milked to death yet.

Well, at least we know that there's at least one photobomber in LL Superstar now:

Speaking of photobombs, did the LL fans find the photobombing in the subsequent series to be excessive?

When does it get good then? I thought 50 episodes was a pretty fair amount before forming a full opinion but if there's a point where everyone agrees it hits it's stride, I'd be willing to give it another shot.

I mean, you can try this since your question is literally in the 1st sentence: https://sotaku.com/gintama-complete-skippable-episode-guide/

Idk though. That guide calls the serious arcs the "good parts", but as you can see from the post after yours some people don't even enjoy those.
