I'm going to sound like an autist, but I love the worldbuilding behind Ponkotsu Ponko. It adds so much depth. I love the near-future + post-war recovery Japan thing especially. Even though it isn't actually a massive part of the story. It also does a great job of adding mystery and intrigue without shoehorning it in.

CONtv has been recently airing Kodocha episodes , but they appear to be sourced from crappy VHS fansubs despite Discotek having the license and the A/V having a slight delay. I also found a show based on a card game that doesn't give a crap about its source material while making fun of it in the same vein as Princess Connect! Re: Dive and Last Period. The show is called Million Arthur and it has been really silly and fun so far.

MangaDex is back.
They posted about it just 10 mins ago as of my post:

For those who don't wanna touch plebbit:

MangaDex's frontend is finally out in an Early Access™️ state.

We've implemented all the features we believe are necessary to at least read manga.

What we have right now:
• Homepage: Popular manga, latest uploaded chapters
• Basic reader with a few settings.
• Covers
• Manga Pages
• Login
• Follows Feed
• List of followed manga
• Basic manga searching (available to guests as well now!)

What we don't have yet:
• User settings (there's no escaping the light theme)
• Views/Ratings (no more bandwagons!)
• Creating or editing anything (exists in the API, but will be postponed until moderation tools exist to prevent abuse)
• Uploading chapters (exists in the API, postponed for the same reason)
• Reports
• Registration/Resetting your password (exists in the API, hasn't been implemented in the frontend)
• Group pages
• User pages
• Deleting your account
• The forums/DMs/comments/etc
• Advanced searches (exists in the API, use MangaUpdates for now)
• Literally anything you can think of, yes we'll implement it, no don't ask us when. Updates will be always posted in our Discord announcement server.

While it may not seem like much progress was made looking at the frontend alone, the entirely rewritten backend's performance and speed is something we're quite proud of. The frontend is still mostly unfinished and missing much of the aspects laid out in the design documents we have, but we hope that you enjoy the new look nonetheless. On this topic, here's a message from our Front End volunteer team:

"You might have noticed things look different now. Some of you might already have seen some screenshots before, some will see the new look of MangaDex for the first time today and we are excited to finally get you all reading again!

As always when things change it'll take us all some time to get used to them, and most predictably, there will be things you hate, things you love and things you have no particular opinion on. Also, as it currently stands there is still a lot of work to do. Parts of it are unfinished, other parts are in definite need of tweaking and a lot of features you probably have gotten used to are still missing. We would have loved to do a more staggered release, more testing and have a lot more feedback on things before go-live, but as you might know, things did not quite go as planned and so we are now releasing the fruits of the past long weeks of volunteer work into the wild.

As we embark on this journey together your feedback plays a big role in how we think about designing this site, what features are needed and where we will go from here. Sure, our backlog might be long and we might not be able to respond to and implement all of the many things that are brought to us immediately, but please rest assured that all feedback will be taken in consideration (constructive feedback, please). Let us know why you like things, why you don't like things and how your average manga-filled day looks and together we will pick up where we left: building the greatest scanlation site out there!

We are eager to hear from you as we turn over the cover-page and start chapter 1 of the fifth volume of MangaDex.

We really want you to know we appreciate your patience and all of the encouraging and understanding messages you've been sending us the past few months. We don't plan on stopping development of MangaDex any time soon and it'll only get better from here."

There's also Sumire 16-sai, with the same dude/puppet at a different school.
i started reading that, do they ever address what that guy's deal is or why the principle pretends not to notice?

e: mangadex doesn't have chapter select yet. have to use the 3rd api sites.

So apperantly Thunderbolt Fantasy world's state is the results of an isekai protagonist loot not disappearing along with him. I'm not even mad, though I don't get why Shāng Bù Huàn didn't give the dude the sword index to take back with him to modern day japan. Also have a feeling Làng Wū Yáo is a half demon half human since having a bright red haired giga chad demon is pretty obvious. Finally RIP Juǎn Cán Yún, you survived longer than I expected with all those death flags. Maybe you'd be time traveled into life.

Judging from what people were talking about on /a/, the isekai dude isn't from modern times but a reference to an iconic character from the Pili company's other puppet shows who is basically their equivalent to superman. While their designs aren't exactly the same, they have the same eyebrows and long white hair. Also personally I don't think shang wants to get rid of the swords permanently because the world may need them again next time a demon god shows up, but he also doesn't want to spend the rest of his life carrying that shit around.

So I recently found out Fruits Basket: The Final is apparently going to have 13 episodes? Because the reboot was always meant to have 63 episodes? @Moguro Fukuzou can you confirm this?

MAL users are defending this decision because of course they are.

I remember enjoying the Fruits Basket manga back in high school. Shame it sounds like the reboot doesn't sound like it's doing it any favors.

Anyway, recently read the (as of now) entirety of Yotsuba&! over the span of a week, something I didn't do before as I've always just came back periodically for new chapters. It was fun re-experiencing early chapters, remembering stuff I forgot about, as well as noticing things I didn't before.

It's honestly amazing how well the whole thing flows and to see all the little details and references to previous chapters. It's easy to forget that chapter releases have been few and far between for years now. But considering that Azuma (supposedly) does this series on the side now, I don't really mind. The whole thing as it is now is just beautiful and is pretty much my favorite manga.

As far as I can remember when they were first talking about the new Fruits Basket anime they were talking about it as a faithful adaption of the author's work unlike the old 2000s anime and I think a vague idea it'd be split into multiple seasons. The idea that season 3 was going to be 13 episodes was originally based on the number of volumes for it listed up for preorder at the start of the season, but they never officially confirmed it as far as I can remember (many thinking another set would drop later for a second half).

It may have internally been known to be 63 episodes long all along, but to me it doesn't really make sense of them knowing before season 3 just due to the slow pace of the first two seasons versus the current one. First two went at a pretty deliberate pace of maybe 1-2 (sometimes a bit more) chapters each episode while even adding some anime original moments to help flesh things out. At the pace they had gone, it is true that if they were to follow that chapter pace, there wouldn't have been enough content for a full 25/26 season 3 unless they added a lot of anime original. Yet, this current season is skipping over a bunch of chapters and subplots that they really hadn't done in the previous two seasons, while also making some bizarre decisions on what to keep. I felt like if they had known from the start there would have been more cutting in the first two seasons so that they'd have more wiggle room in season 3 rather than the constant rushed feeling it currently has.

Feels to me that they were told at the start of season 3 that they'd only be getting 13 and they've been scrambling to fit enough of the important stuff in so they can wrap up the series by cutting out any of the side stuff they deemed unimportant. The emotional impact of season 3 has definitely noticeably dipped for me, so much so that I've actually fallen behind rather than rush to watch the episode the day it aired like the previous two seasons. Like episode 6 I went into it fully expecting to cry since it featured a part in the manga where I did, yet nothing and I was left more confused than anything. MAL users can defend whatever they want, but it doesn't make the season any better. I legitimately don't believe it deserves the rating it current sits at on MAL (somehow above the first two seasons!) currently sitting at a 7 for me (1st two seasons at a 9) subject to drop if they fumble the ending (chance it may go to at most an 8 if they somehow ace it).

I don't know, maybe the latest episodes have fixed the pacing, downloading them now to watch. Still not on my priority list anymore compared to the couple other shows I'm still watching (which is already a sad enough thought considering my love for the manga :( ).

So I take it if you wanted to get into fruits basket and have never read/watched it before the reboot is the worst way the experience it, the manga is the best option, and the original 2001 anime is somewhere in the middle?

Someone blue pill me on fruits basket, when the anime came out I was in HS and it looked like the, well, fruitiest goddamn thing you could ever imagine, it made me hate shopping for cool animes at the store because I was surrounded by twink merchandise and was in desperate need to chug a bud light and indulge in some notgay.

Now years later having read some shojo manga, is it safe to assume I'm inoculated by now? And is it even worth it? It looks like BL honestly. Sus.
