In the West, authors have left instructions in case they die to finish up their series. The problems is that Manga is really so personal. So unless he left detailed notes and outlines, its going to be difficult. They might just leave it unfinished out of respect, but it really sucks that he died. So young too.

I know the author to Re:Zero mentioned in a Q&A once that he left everything to a friend that would just post it all online if he ever dies.

Geez, that gives me bad flashbacks to Half Life. Which didn’t exactly “die” the way we’re talking about, but died nonetheless, and had HL3’s plot released pretty much in that manner except even more roundabout.
 
Miura was also a pretty private guy. So it is hard to guess if he left an outline or an ending to Berserk behind incase of his death.

I know he trained a good number of assistants who were working with him and helping him release chapters tho. So maybe.

But man, that would be daunting task. Being asked to posthumously finish Berserk? Even with an ending/detailed outline left behind, I would be scared shitless.

Nah it's just general psychology. We'd like a character more if there's a "hiďden" aspect to its life, if it's contradictory to how it acts normally then the contrast is funny to boot. Nothing is more boring than a "what you see is what you get" character. (unless the regular personality is unique from the get go).
Ditto emotionless/tsundere types are popular because having the character change its personality as the plot progress makes the reader more engaged.
 
What is it with mangaka passing away way before their time? RIP man. I hope he planned parts of it out so people can either continue it or at least let people know how he was thinking of ending it. This guy's work was genuinely inspirational for a lot of medium, most famously for Dark Souls.

Damn I'm not even fully caught up on the series, but it's probably one of the best out there. I don't think it's too surprising that he had health problems, considering the decline in output of work and the life and of a mangaka is full of constant stress.

The Japanese have the longest lifespans in the world so luck is on our side.
 
Doesn't aortic dissection have links to hypertension and stress? I remember reading about it and wondering because it feels like all this overworking that many mangaka and animators suffer through is the reason why many of them are dying much younger than they should be.
 
I just woke up to this and it took a while for it to really set in.

never read the manga, so couldn't say how it compares. but I assume nanako's is even cuter animated and voiced.

also banger OP and ED, both stuck in my head for a good while afterwards.
 
Berserk will never be finished. God damn that hurts to type out.

It's especially painful because the story was entering its final arc and we were finally moving towards the final confrontation with the God Hand.

God damn, it's now one of those unfinished masterpieces.

Edit: It's probably the internet coping, but if reports of his assistants being left a detailed outline of the final arc are true, I am willing to Wheel of Time the final chapters.
