So I just got through watching the first couple episodes of a chunk of the new season, a lot more than I believed I would, so I thought I'd write some short thoughts about each. Will divide it up between new stuff and new seasons of shows.
New Stuff:
-86: Not super sure about this one since it's a LN adaption, current it's pretty okay but I'm keeping an eye on if it starts shitting the bed or becomes to grimdark. Nice sci-fi mecha fights so far.
-Mashiro no Oto: Currently one of my favorites for the season and will probably stay that way unless it devolves into shitty drama that has nothing to do with the actually musical performances. It's a musical anime that has actual performances (at least one or two an episode so far) that are all pretty amazing and apparently the Yoshida Brothers are supervising all the Shamisen performances so I know it'll stay great. MC is interesting, though the supporting cast is pretty meh at the moment (besides his brother and his amazing mother). Op and Ed might be my favorites of the season. Animation is also great.
-Odd Taxi: I have no idea where this show is going, it's kind of neat so far but if it doesn't start focusing more on something I'll probably drop it. Doesn't give me that fun exploring daily life of strange folks in a strange city like Durarara or Hakata Ramen yet and the central plot they keep hinting at hasn't kicked off yet.
-Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu: Surprisingly good adaption that completely removed the game elements that brought down the manga in my opinion, no stat screens. Nice laid back show with decent animation that seems to be fixing some of the problems with the manga.
-Shadows House: Interesting so far, but I'm very curious/cautious on how the story is going to develop as I haven't read the manga. Like the subtle creepiness that is present, main two are both cute and fun to follow.
-Shakunetsu Kabaddi: Sports show of the season that has been enjoyable so far even if the animation isn't the best at times. The small cast is pretty fun and the humor isn't bad, though my continued watching will depend on how the story develops as the first 3 have really just been intro to the sport for audience/MC + getting to know the team. Interested to see an actual match.
-Slime Taoshite 300-nen: Similar level of enjoyment as Seijo in that it's a fun laidback anime that I'm a fan of.
-SSSS.DYNAZENON: I'm holding zero expectations for this show because Trigger, but so far I'm enjoying it a bit more than Gridman just because I like the main cast more. Fight scenes are also great mecha action. Can't say much about the plot yet as it's still forming.
-Super Cub: Another (cautious) favorite of the season that has a great art style going for it and I'm invested in follow the cute introverted/autistic/depressive MC on her adventures with her Honda® Super Cub™ .

-Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song: Another contender for AOTS for me, WIT seems to be having fun after finally being free of AOT with the high level of production value this is getting. It's been getting better and better each episode so I can only hope this anime original can stick the landing. Vivy is also very cute.

Sequels:
-Fruits Basket: Final:
Picks up literally where the last season ending and is going to cover what I think is the most interesting part of the manga since it focuses a bunch on Tohru's problems. I know it's going to be the most painful season too because of that, but I'm confident they'll do it justice given their track record of the last two seasons. I still recommend this series to anyone that hasn't checked it out yet because every season has been great.
-Yuukoku no Moriarty: I enjoyed the first season well enough and this one I find is already more interesting than that since it's more plot focused. I'm also a sucker for crime mystery shows and the main cast is pretty fun in this one.

Think that's everything so far though I'm going to be watching ZombieLand Saga s2 when I get the time, but since I liked the first season I'll probably stick with it anyway.

Speaking of rewatching is there any shows you have rewatch the most? For me I usually only rewatch a show a second time (though find it a lot easier to reread manga ) but off the top of my head I think I've rewatched NHK and baccano the most because I know I've watched both at least 3 times over the last decade.
Probably Ouran since I own the blu-ray and will throw it on in the background to watch through since I love the dub. What usually gets the most rewatches is whatever in my physical collection has a decent dub that I'll put on while doing other things. Outside of that I don't rewatch that much.
What's a good idol anime on bluray? I saw that Love Live thing is oop. Zombieland saga looks good but think they'll eventually combine both seasons in one package?
I liked AKB0048 quite a bit and I think Prince-sama got released in English which is a great series if you don't mind male idols or the concept of stupid fun.

Damn, he fought kidney cancer for two years.

That Twitter message, though (think it was done through PR, but it could've been his actual last words):
「まだまだやりたい事、作りたい作品があったのが心残りです」として、「きっとまた生まれ変わって良い作品を作るぞ!アディオス」

"I regret that there were still things I wanted to do and works I wanted to make," he said. "I'm sure I'll be reborn again and make a good work! Adios"

Well, I'll watch Beck in his honor, then. Better late than never.

Contrary to popular belief, I was under the impression that the anime Beck was made because they loved the real life Beck:

I never knew that it was (slightly) based on a dog by the same name. :story:

Either way, great anime, but also a very sweet message to go out on into greener pastures.

His work on shows like the TV adaptions of "Someday's Dreamers" and "Paradise Kiss" and "Beck" was marked by a very stylized but also down to earth urban design, lending a unique atmosphere to everyday settings. He also worked on video games like Grandia and the original Gungrave.

Just a real shame to hear.

I never knew he was a part of working on Grandia. I always that the series was a little under appreicated when you lived in the States like me. That’s a surprise I didn’t expect to see.

Howdy fellow kiwi anime fans. I took quite a hiatus from anime for the past few years and recently got back to see what I missed thanks to extra time and boredom from the coof.

If this was mentioned before, a really underrated anime and manga I had the pleasure of watching is Land of the Lustrous. Orange studio has animated it beautifully with an equally sublime music score. The mangaka behind the series started the series in 2012 and will just finish with the 11th volume this year. The time taken for the series shows as the characters, plot, world building are all fantastic.

As for one that's currently airing, I'm really enjoying HigeHiro. The English title, "After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway" is quite weird, which is what caught my attention. It's an interesting romance/drama that's surprisingly captivating and wholesome.

Funnily enough, I had just caught up with the manga today! It's honestly tragic that Ichikawa decided to Berserk the series on such a cliffhanger. I'm not sure if the first season of the anime sold poorly, but I'm really confused and suprised that a second season hasn't been made yet.

God, English Titles of Anime still get me sometimes because they're so literal

Started rewatching a small J-Drama called Blue Blazes/Aoi Honoo and even though its not an anime (although it was based on a manga), I'd still recommend giving it a watch since the series is essentially a very loose autobiography of the mangaka attending the same college in the 80s with Hideaki Anno and a few other Gainax founders (there's even an episode where they show them making the Daicon III ova).
Its a nice little series if your at all interested in series from the 80s and the people who were directly inspired from said series

There are rumors Orange studios might make the second season after they finish with their current project. Despite some shortcomings, it is still amazing - concept and everything. Really fun learning some geology too.

I love the series even if each chapter became more and more painful to actually read as someone fully invested in Phos getting a "happy" ending. At this point the only gems I really like are Phos, Alex, Antarc, Benito, and Pads. Everyone else can pretty much go fuck themselves after how they treated Phos and I hope Human Phos tells them to get fucked when they ask them to pray after literally forgetting about them for thousands of years. It doesn't help that the author decided to go on hiatus at such a cliffhanger.
