I should also mention, those AMC gold and black passes or shit DO NOT work on anime movies. Also they don't work on SOME disney movies as my friends have told me? Something about disney wanting to make extra money or some shit so thats why you see the "DISNEY MOVIE HAS SOLD OUT TICKETS~" they're not actually sold out, the media is just patting it's ass to make the movie look "amazing" which causes a rush etc. The gold pass worked when I went to see rise of skywalker, but these do not work on special showings. Couldn't use my gold pass to see YuGiOh DSOD a few years ago and that was a $13.50 pain. Loved the movie and cried like a bitch, but yea if you got those passes I thought I'd pass the word on.

At Cineplex in Canada, most anime film screenings count as "event screenings" since I believe (although I'm not 100% sure about this) the distributor is paying Cineplex to screen the film there for only one or two evenings, and, as such, you have to pay a special "event screening" price that is exempt from any special offers like the usual Canadian Tuesday evening discount ticket prices. I'd imagine something like that is also going on with anime screenings at AMC.

Occasionally anime films at Cineplex are distributed by eOne (formerly Alliance) and those releases get the same pricing as the regular wide releases.

I'm going dubbed tbh. I'm going with my mom since I got her hooked on the show. I accidently booked tickets for sub before I had to do the whole ass fandango exchange (which was surprisingly VERY easy). Personally I don't mind subs myself, but she has an issue keeping up with subbed animes so I made sure I got the dubbed version. I personally like the demon slayer dub myself but if you book tickets at least at my theater in the afternoons it was a DUB showing but at night it's a SUB showing if your curious.
Tickets might still be up for preorder depending where you are. I ordered today just to make sure I got a seat since my local theater is Fri-Sun due to covid only and I don't feel like waiting in line only to be turned down at the door so I ensured I got seats. Just make sure you READ since on fandango it's a little vague (as in if it says nothing the movie is in english, it it says English sub its Japanese) and after clicking to atomictickets to see if anything was cheaper it specified ENG SUB JAPANESE for the late showing hence why I was like "AW SHIT" and had to fix everything on the fly.

TLDR: Please read before you book to make sure you're choosing either english dub or subtitled, and Amc gold/black passes don't work on special showings like anime movies and SOME Disney movies. Booking through fandango says on the print out "your purchase guarantees your seats, just please show up early".
Actually, I did have to check afterwards to make sure I got the right version, especially since it seems that the one I'm going to only has it subbed, which had me suspicious as to whether they were being marked correctly.

Its a good thing I got the right one the first time, the covid seating sucks ass.

Yep that's kinda what they do in AMC. I don't go to the theater very often because the price's are outrageous but if I get a pass I'll usually hoard it until something decent pops up. Course, I think they expire.
The way anime films work in America (I assume) anime movies usually go thru funimation and from funimation they shill it out to some theaters for at least 3 days with maybe 2 showings per day on the movie. I'll admit some of the theaters don't get the anime goodies unless your in the cities (as in major ones which are an hour out from me since i'm in the boonies) but if there's an anime I'm invested in i'll swallow the cost. Recently found out when Fruits Basket got their reboot they had a screening here, so I guess that's due to anime being more mainstream now. Once in a while they do a miazaki film month but I think those also fall under special showing prices which are like $13.50 per adult ticket.

Would've been uhhh nice if they explained English subtitles meant THIS IS JAPANESE.
Maybe it's just because I'm stupid since I've never seen a SUB movie in a theater but if you put eng subs I'd assume it's like "we're playing it in english and we have closed captions". But that's cause i'm an idiot.
If you go on another website they're more clear about you are going to see the movie in Japanese with English subtitles, NOT English with closed captions.
This is a screenshot from Fandango btw, but apparently if you go to the funimationmovies website, the page says "subtitle or dub may vary depending on theater" or something of the like. I don't see why the theaters can't have both available to you, but I'd just assume it's due to space issues.
I do wonder how this whole ticket thing is going to work out. I know if this wasn't a covid environment it would be "HEYYY GET IN THERE PACK EM IN FUCK THE FIRE CODES" but since this is covid, are they only going to show the singular movie in a few auditoriums? Are they showing other movies? Will they tell you "sorry can't let you in because we've hit seating" or let those with advance tickets go first? This is sure to be interesting and I hope I don't get fucking whacked or some shit over this since I think we all know anime fans are rabbid and this whole pandemic's got everyone on the violence juice.

Subs have always been for original language voices, if not. It is dubs + subs.
Thank you! I should've assumed as such since I consume a ton of anime, but I don't go to the movies enough, much the less anime ones, to know there was a difference like that. Thanks!

The Nagatoro anime is actually pretty good and I think it nailed the first couple of chapters pretty well. The only gripes I have with it so far is the QUALITY in one scene that kind-of ruins it in my opinion and the zoomer-tier subs. I don't care for the opening song but the animation is cool.

TWEWY on the other hand is very fucking fast and it has me concerned. It blazes through the first 3 days of the week in the first episode and it really should've ended at the halfway point of this episode. Neku is also less of an asshole which is pretty disappointing and will definitely lessen the impact of the 2nd half of the story. I also heard that this anime is supposed to tie into the sequel of TWEWY which has me even more concerned. I'm going to probably watch the next episode but I'm not all that optimistic about it being anything good which is a shame.

Also, if you have 50 minutes, I implore that you watch Dead Leaves. It was the easiest 10/10 I have ever given to an anime in a long time.

It's rumored that they're going to make Rean a bad guy for the Trails anime since the new arc for the games is CALVARD DINDU NUTTIN.

Sephiroth is going to be given a run for his money.

Once you strip out the gameplay, there wasn't a lot going on plotwise for the first few days anyway. I'm sure we'll be able to get some hot stuff later.

I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level was meh. I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting but everything about it is pretty generic, from the writing to the art. Maybe it'll get better once they introduce more of the cast but right now there's really no hook for the series. I was only interested in it because Aoi Yuki voices the lead.

- I'm slowly starting to get invested into One Piece (really, just the genre of Shonen in general) again. It's as every bit as fun as I remembered it being when I first saw it as a little kid and the fight scenes are very enjoyable to watch.

- Watched some more of Sailor Moon S earlier on today. Still loving the edition of Hotaru. She's pretty mysterious (and creepy) and I'm worried to see what's going to happen to her later on. And did I forget to mention that the Death Busters and Professor Tamoe are my new favorite SM villains next to the Dark Kingdom? They're a bit goofy (Lord help me when I get to season four's Amazon Trio/Quartet) but they still freak me out.

- Finally decided to continue High School DXD. Honestly, from first glance, I thought it was going to be a shitty isekai harem anime. But it genuinely surprised me by how in-depth it seemed to be right from episode one. Issei is a tough pill to swallow as the main protagonist, though.

They took away Chocolove's funny lips in the new Shaman King anime. It's not a dealbreaker or anything, I think everyone knew that wouldn't fly in 2021 but I still had the hope they'd keep his design exactly the same. In any case the usual suspects will bitch about him not being representative enough/bad representation when his backstory gets dropped later on. That is if anyone is watching Shaman King at all.

It begins again once more.

I just came back from work and the last thing google needs to remind me of are search results being created by fake anime fans who hate tan skinned girls.

I’m not MATI at you @SteelPlatedHeart, but it’s getting bizarre seeing this when you know they’ve never read the manga.

On one hand, I can’t wait to watch this, even if younger kids are trying too hard bring back the good ol’ days of HorribleSubs. I just hope no one on here spoils it too much. :optimistic:

Watching the first episode has reminded me just how much progress Sempai has made since the first chapter.

At some point you would think it would register that Nagatoro is not black. She is just tan.

I would also hope it would occur to them that Asian people are not all one color. They run the spectrum from light skinned to darker skinned.

But nope. Every tan or darker skinned character is black to them. Despite having a Japanese name and origin.

It is the same exact shit they did with MHA and that bunny hero. Who is named Rumi Usagiyama and saying she is black despite having that name and being from Hiroshima.

Fuck these people.

Sent this earlier in the thread but just as a reminder.

I don't even like that manga but Jesus this shit's retarded.

No, every dark skinned character is black or whatever. Never mind the animes that actually have blacks in them make them dark enough it's not questionable. Also, just sit back and wait until they get to an episode where her tan lines are visible and you can see how pale she'd actually be. I'm sure they'll some how rage about that too, but it all amuses me.

There's a shot where you can see her tan lines in this episode, seems like they're just going to ignore it. Though looking through twitter, it seems more like they're anal about people using it as pfp for some reason rather than anything else.

On another note, the show had very nice background shots, outside some strange gag choices its a great adaption of the first couple of chapters. This along with Pretty Detective Boys Club have some nice visuals, though the latter is Shaft so it is to be expected.

I'll have to check it out. I'd actually forgotten that it was coming out this season, although it might be rough to watch the early stuff with poor Senpai. And Shaft? I hope it's good, I've missed Shaft's visuals and stupid head turn.
