How much different is the NGE manga from the anime? Is the ending more similar to the episode 25/26 ending or EOE?

Attack on titanwowwowwowwow

The last arc I paid attention to was the historia arc but damn, I'll be keeping an eye on the last 2 chapters.

It follows End of Evangelion but (after I pulled out my volume that was buried in rows of manga) it shows more stuff that happens during Instrumentality. So like you see more of Shinji's experience with it, Gendo wasn't eaten by the Eva Unit he just doesn't experience Instrumentality and dies alone, and you got to see that Asuka saw Kaji in the Eva 02 Unit with her (yeah, she lived long enough to turn to LCL), There's even an epilogue that takes place in winter--but it's another world now? A world where Mari lives, too.

So I think the manga was to lead into Rebuild at the end since Yoshiyuki Sadamoto took forever to work on the manga. But I dunno.

UNLIMITED BUDGET WORKS
kadokawa must want this series to be their next sword art online. Thank fuck that this one's actually good, unlike SAO

I love this series so much honestly. First Isekai greatest Isekai.
Next two weeks are going to be a gigantic system shock for anyone who hasn't read the LN/ WN/ Manga yet. Rudeus' comment at the end of this episode about wishing for girls falling from the sky was EXTREMELY cheeky and the director knew exactly what he was doing when he put it in. Press F to pay respects for Sylphie's legs and Nanahoshi's japanese highschool romcom life

So they're going after the detective genre? Tf has Detective Conan ever done to anybody?
He's just a demoralising chink who does nothing but defend the CCP and try to get people riled up about dumb saber rattling that will have no tangible effect on anything long-term. Just ignore him and move on.

I've been reading Akira after seeing the movie again. I think it's really interesting how the movie both condenses and rearranges the story of the manga while still retaining the basic outline (mostly, I hear the manga takes an entirely different direction halfway through). And yet it still works. I think part of it is because Katsuhiro Otomo, the original writer, directed it so he knew how to adapt the story to fit a 2 hour runtime.

The manga's a more complete story to be sure, but it's fascinating how the movie can essentially be a half-complete adaptation and still retain a reputation as one of the most important anime movies. It helps that it retained some of the core emotional beats such as Kaneda and Tetsuo's relationship falling apart and Tetsuo being corrupted by his ever-expanding power.

Can any one of you Kiwis tell me what this anime is called? I tried finding some good translator sites, but I still can’t seem to find the accurate name title for it.

EDIT: Didn’t want to double post but it turns out I found out. It’s called Sasuga no Sarutobi, and it looks pretty good too for anime made in 1982.

It really is insane about how little it adapts but still it is coherent. The fucking influence Akira had on West and East, far beyond anime is insane. Plus that fucking soundtrack:

I can't think of any other anime with so many direct references besides maybe Dragon Ball Z. I've seen it crop up in children's cartoons, other adult anime, hell even Kanye West made an entire music video referencing Akira (Kanye's a huge fucking Akira fan, it's insane). That one shot of Kaneda sliding his motorcycle to a stop might be the most referenced and parodied scene in animation.

Ehhhhh, that one sword pose is probably higher up - simply due to there being more chances to parody swords than motorcycles.

To the point where looking for Akira references in any medium (both Japanese and western animation, video games, movies etc.) has become a fun Easter Egg hunt. It is one of the most referenced, memed on and parodied animes to the point of almost being the anime equivalent of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in that regard (think for example of Kaneda sliding on his bike as the anime's equivalent of Elliott flying on his bicicyle). Akira is also credited as one of the movies that contributed to killing and discrediting the mentality that cartoons are only for children.

And fuck me do I miss the 80s and 90s anime art style after recently rewatching the movie...

If I'm not mistaken Akira was referenced in Kanye's song "Stronger".

I never watched Gou. I never saw any need for content outside of the initial 8 arcs, as the story ended, everything was solved, etc. I don't get why people kept buying Higurashi stuff, I loved the cast, but ep 8 ended everything.

If we are getting an Umineko anime, I'm going to be very dissapointed. I hated the Gou art style and I can't see that changing to something better. Unless it's 1 season per episode of Umineko it wouldn't really work and even though he changed some things in the manga from the VN, I still think Ryukishi really, really needs to fix the ending of Umineko.
Why the fuck would you have an ending where Ange basically says, "Ok but I reject the truth about my family being assholes who murdered eachother". She could have done that from the start, and it's not really her moving on, it's her going into denial. It never made sense to me, if you wanted to you could frame it in a religious/spiritual manner where she thinks they are still alive, but it was just outright denial of the truth. Ending seemed rushed, and yet there was foreshadowing for it as early as episode 2.

Don't even get me started on the trick ending.

I never got how people's biggest issue was Yasu. The dumbest part was everyone just going along with them, and the fact they were batshit insane yet people ignored the kid with imaginary friends and firearms.

But all the meta stuff was far worse imo. Ange just striaght up regressing. What was the point of learning the truth, then just ignoring it. I think Ryukishi got biased towards the magic ending as he was probably grieving his friend. He did have a lot of foreshadowing in the series to set up Shannon/Kannon. I thought episode 6 was great, it's one of the best in the series imo. 7 was a good idea, but I disliked how you could clearly see Yasu was batshit from the start and no one picked up on it or challenged them. Then 8 was just a clusterfuck complete with cringe fight scenes.

If we are dealing with what could have been, I personally would have loved it if Eva and Rosa swapped roles. Eva was just an overbearing mother who compared Ange to George. I would have loved to see how Rosa would have behaved towards Ange as her daughter given her abusive relationship with Maria, and he she got her wish, no more Maria, now she just has to raise a child that isn't hers, but the child of the people who murdered her daughter. Would be far more interesting than Eva imo.
For me Yasu was a certain bit of logic failure. Yasu was a boy, so why are the servants so worried about Kinzo putting him in a dress as Beato 3.0? Kinzo was nuts, but not that nuts. It works smoother if Yasu is a girl, but I suspect Ryukishi's burning need to be transgressive got the best of him.

I'll be honest, Shannon = Kanon only really bothers me because it was the Tumblr answer, so I hate it on principle. Also because it complicates things and implies that we can only ever trust Battler's perspective and EP 1 and 2.

I mean, I liked Umineko, but I feel like the second half overall was a bit of a let down.

I don't see any outrage over redo of a healer expect from anime feminist and of course ANN.

i see more sperging over the protagonist of jobless reincarnation.
I'm surprised at how little salt there is over Redo of Healer. I wanted Goblin Slayer-level salt!
