Another good episode in Spider Isekai. I'm pretty intrigued with church girl in the human side, since it can lead to pretty dark shit (but almost assuredly just have her be in a villain faction as a twist on the regular formula).

It's kind of a shame how in general Reincarnation Isekai never dwells on the characters upbringing in an interesting way, almost always giving them a boring privileged aristocratic family (and even that without any culture shock, like having slavery, violence and caste system).

Like think on the story of a modern westerner getting reborn in a new world and being essentially helpless while being raised in a culture that he recognises is bad for him and others. Like being raised in a cult.

To me it came off as trying to imitate being edgy or provocative, but never actually came off as sincere. Like they're going for shock value without understanding the subject matter and not being able to pull it off from a skill standpoint in setting the whole scenario up as well as the way it's shot and presented. I feel if they had better and talented people at the helm they could have pulled it off, but whoever in charge is a hack.

Kinda like the similar problems I have with goblin slayer where they don't go all the way or block too much shit out so it obscures the violence to the point where it feels annoying and not actually artistic. Like the whole point of that series is the violence and not the MMO style Worldbuilding, but they spend so much time focusing on the uninteresting stuff when none of the characters are made interesting enough to warrant it.

The Manga portrays it as horrific and it chronologically structures the story differently. That and the DxD'd the style.

I feel if they had better and talented people at the helm they could have pulled it off, but whoever in charge is a hack.

Takuya Asaoka, a literal who, has animation and episode directorial credits, but he has has never directed an entire series until Redo of Healer. The only anime he's been involved in that I've seen was Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars in which he directed episode three, but Regalia is only remembered for being put on hiatus mid-way for a whole season because of issues in the show's quality.

With exception (maybe) of Fate/Apocrypha, every other show on his filmography apparently was not well-received from what I can see.

Now I haven't read the ln, but as far as the anime goes, that's not what I felt at all. The theme of the anime was surviving past violence, why else do you think the elf archer keeps trying to invite Goblin Slayer to "fun adventures", or the scenes where GS considers what he'll do when he stops hunting goblins.
That being said, maybe it was different in the ln. I've been meaning to read it for a while now, and if its that different it'll give me more incentive.

Master Keaton is the second best thing Naoki Urasawa did next to 20th Century Boys. I still have to finish collecting the omnibus special editions since the 10th volume came out a couple of months ago.

IIRC Master Keaton was partly written by Hokusei Katsushika, it is a decent underrated show/manga though with a lot of prototype Monster designs.

I never thought I'd see the day Studio Ghibli would make an ugly film, but...

Holy shit, Earwig and the Witch was so awful. They should've stuck to 2D for it; the story would still suck eggs through a straw and come off more as a shoddy TV special than an actual movie, but it would've at least been appealing to look at. The Ghibli expressions were so stiff and unattractive that it made the characters even uglier, and they were already unlikable characters to begin with. Erika (the showing was in dub) is such a goddamn brat, she is a terrible child, and the people she was adopted by were just as bad in comparison. They were literally treated/raised to be the villains/antagonists of the film but then suddenly we're supposed to like them in the last ten minutes? The color palette is literally non-existent, it's just drab and gloomy and nothing is pleasing to the eye and it ended on such a sudden no-ending note that everyone (there weren't many of us) in the theater went "WHAT." They all even agreed with me the movie was garbage after the credits rolled.

The music was the only good part about the movie, but I'm not going to remember the rest of it by the time I go to bed, it's so uninspired. This was just a terrible movie that shouldn't have been allowed to be shown in theaters. I am perplexed this came out of Studio Ghibli. Mary and the Witch's Flower was more of a Ghibli film than this, and that wasn't done by them but by ex-Ghibli animators.

I owe Tales from Earthsea an apology. Despite its messy third act, that at least has everything you'd expect from a Ghibli film.

Came to this thread just to find people talking about this. I saw it was sitting at a 24% on Rotten Tomatoes and got curious. Was not disappointed.

I think there are a few, don't remember which since isekai isn't usually what I go for, but given how ubiquitous that genre is I'd be surprised if not more people put that spin on it. otoh they are usually a form of wish fulfillment with a healthy dose of comedy, and most people don't wish to reincarnate as someone to get shit on, so...

Haruhi Suzumiya was pretty much the first thing I thought of when I heard about Kadokawa getting involved with Sony. I still want new seasons of Haruhi Suzumiya even if she'll look a bit different because character designer and chief animation director Shoko Ikeda was amongst those murdered by arsonist Shinji Aoba.

Yesterday (2/7) marked 22 years after Ojamjo Doremi appeared on Japanese TV screens for the first time. I remember on 4chan’s /s4s/ board that posters used to spam this along with Haiyore! Nyaruko-san and Tantei Opera Milky Holmes. The magical girl anime used to be a pretty fun time for kids and adults alike, but I’m not sure how many people still watch this one, if you compare it to say Precure, Sailor Moon or Ah! My Goddess.

Either way, I can see why /s4s/ posted this. It’s actually pretty funny when it doesn’t always have subplots that seem random and out of place:

It recently had a movie, right? I used to watch the show when I was in my teens and thought it was cute. I remember the Motto! Ojamajo Doremi episode where they talk about Beth being black. It was hilarious since it was dubbed in Castillian Spanish when I saw it.

Smells like bullshit that hinges on the reader not bother to actually check through the "ポリコレ アメコミ" phrase they mentioned as showing how much the japanese super support PC culture. The phrase itself isn't super active in posting nor engagement with things like Likes, it also seems like a lot of it isn't supporting it but just talking about it. Stuff like "people mention PC culture as the cause for American comics not selling, I wonder if that's the case?" or similar mild mentions or their own theories. Barely any actually mention CG and the few that I saw were linking shit like Buzzfeed. One of the most positive towards PC I saw with a good retweet/like count was just mentioning that due to PC culture there was finally an all asian team. At most, there's just a general questioning if PC culture is the real reason for western comics decline and as far as I've browsed through nothing supports the claim of:

I can't say that there isn't any support in the vast amount of tweets but the claim of "vast majority" seems pretty flimsy from just browse many of the top tweets (most of which are from last year anyway). There was one or two that expressly mentioned the kind of attitude they're talking about, but I wouldn't claim it's the majority.

There was one interesting one that didn't think it was the cause of PC culture but more due to the fact that Western comics seemed to have limited themselves to the "manic audience" as they put it, rather than trying to cater to a diverse age group that isn't interested in "What is Justice?" discussion. In fact, the sales of American comics are nowhere near as high as they were during the days of eroticism and geekery. So, if you look at the publishing industry in Japan. There are magazines for every year, starting with "Yochien" and ending with "Shogakusei". There is a Doraemon for each age group. I think that such a situation provides support, and that's why Japanese manga is not only for enthusiasts.

I mean, what is this? I heard that they publish a separate magazine for each year of childhood. And the content changes with the age? What kind of crazy situation is this? I thought Gakken was amazing ......

They want to do distribution and will fund anime to a much larger extent than before(arguibly this is probably the biggest move in history when it comes to anime).

They also want games to go on playstation and develop IPs that work with both games and animation.

Also they want to push merch sales and want Fate to be a big huge thing in the states just as much as it's in japan. The ironic thing Sentai Filmworks holds some rights to the some fate series as far as US distribution goes. I don't know if Sony also got them in the crunchyroll buyout, but Sentai stands to gain a lot from any type of rights acquisition and would make more money than they did when they were ADV.

It's really not some nefarious plan to censor anime and I actually think it's going to go in the opposite direction if Fate is frontlining this whole thing. Fate/Extra is already getting a remake, and CCC as well as the other games and VNs seem to be gearing up for an eventual US release.

Demon Slayer is already getting a playstation 5 game and that was the first thing to emerge out of this deal.

Honestly I'm hoping for the impossible and maybe we'll get a real deal new Haruhi season because that's how much money is being thrown at this. It's very interesting to watch this whole ordeal.

On one hand, as a Fate autist I'd like more (hopefully quality) content, but on the other hand, it being mainstream could lead to woke people trashing it (especially with how blatantly sexual some things are and minor things like trans/black/gay characters or what have you) which could influence gullible corporations and possible shitty live action adaptations (but if they are hilariously dumb I'll support it)

I know manga magazines target broader demographics, like very early readers (kindergarten and younger), young grade schoolers, tweens, junior high students, and so on, usually split into male and female for at least tween and older demographics (although that's more for advertising, plenty of girls read ostensibly shounen comics and, to a lesser degree, vice-versa) but I've never heard of manga magazines targeted at specific ages, especially considering the younger you go, the more uneven reading ability and reading comprehension between kids of the same age gets.

I still remember being in grade one and two and thinking many of my classmates were stupid for reading so slowly and having to pronounce most words when I just happened to be a pretty early reader.
