Just started reading Tsukihime. First impressions? It's a lot easier to read than Fate/stay night. Haven't encountered any rare kanji or words yet in the first 10-15 minutes or so where Fate blasted you with them from the very first screen. Thinking I should finish this one first and then continue on with Fate just to make things easier.

Watched Redline again, man I fucking love this movie. I like that despite all the crazy shit that happens throughout the movie, at the end of the day it ends up being a love story. Also the soundtrack is fucking great.

Even while Demon Slayer is growing in power, One Piece just delivered 1,000 chapters.

“1000 Chapters!!

I, uh, wow… Words pretty much fail to describe the whirlwind these past 23 years have been. Literally half of my life has revolved around the almighty ‘WEEKLY SERIALIZATION’ hehe. But it’s not just me, Luffy and the Strawhats have navigated themselves to so many different islands and found themselves caught up in so many adventures. At this point, even I’m not sure how many lives they’ve touched along the way! But it’s thanks to them that so many special people have entered my own life; first and foremost among them being my family. All of these people have supported me through the years and I am deeply indebted to each of them. Meanwhile, my readers have been leading their own bustling lives. There’s a certain theory that exists for long-term readership in the entertainment world that states, “A given pool of readers will rotate out of a series after five years.” And so for a while now, I’ve avoided calling my readers, ‘fans’. It’s like they say, “Pride cometh before a fall.” I convinced myself that I shouldn’t get too full of myself because my readers would eventually leave the series and move on with their lives. Let me say that all of you have put me to shame for thinking such a thing. Your belief in Luffy has led me to believe in all of you, and that is what allows me to continue drawing exactly the kind of manga I want to draw. So here we are, ready to dip our toes into the final stages of the story. It’s taken us a long time to reach one thousand chapters. However, it’s because I’ve completed a thousand chapters that you must believe I’ll take us to the end. The story waiting for you will defy expectations! I mean it!!

I have a favor to ask. This is for everyone with whom —by some means or another— I’ve managed to create a bond, in other words, the ONE PIECE FANS of the world! My story is a long one. But for just a while longer, please watch over Luffy and his crew as they continue their adventure!

If there aren't complete fansubs for Next Generation Patlabor by now, there's probably no chance of anyone finishing it right? there's an officia HKl release but the subtitles are chinglish with some incomprehensible lines. and there's these really nice fansubbed episodes on the net but they're hardcoded and stop after episode 2(3). around the 27 minute mark the HK release subs leave out numbers and are gramatically wrong.

iirc there's good subs for the movie, as well
TNG still seems possible, robot shows can get picked up decades after they're made

but disregard that

One of the obscure shows I love and which will never get a disc release outside of Japan is Mushi-Uta. The romance elements are actually quite nice and touching. I'd never expect that from a series based on a light novel.

After 5 years of the anime being dead and 2 years of manga hiatus, it seems like Hetalia really didn't die.

I'm gonna watch the new season when it aires but I'm terrified of the fandom returning. I hope the show is #cancelled enough to keep the crazies out.
I'm fairly certain Hetalia still has a pretty prominent fandom but I imagine most of the crazies (usually fujoshis) probably moved on to other stuff by now.

I love the animation and art style. It's very unique in my opinion.

So are the new Tenchi Muyo! OVA's actually entertaining or are they just like watching somebody's expanded universe crossver fanfics in animated form?

They still need to include Kiyone Makibi, who does exist in the OVA continuity; she's just stranded on an asteroid somewhere. (I know they'd probably have to recast Kiyone since Yuri Amano retired from voice acting some two decades ago, but one half of the Kiyo/Miho duo has already been recast due to the death of Mihoshi's originl voice actress Yuuko Mizutani so it shouldn't be an issue.)

(Correction, Yuri Amano has shown up in anime productions as recently as 2015, almost always as character's mothers. She appears to have retired from voice acting by now but I can't say she wouldn't return as Kiyone Makibi if they asked her.)

I think I hit an epiphany in relation to "Watadamashi-hen". My play-through of the sound novel is relatively new, and I'm now on the Massacre arc. Well, in chapter two, you got a choice to make in answering Hanyuu's question on what happened between Keiichi and the doll:

Clearly the right answer is the bottom one, but what if you chose the top one?

Rika pokes him to get his attention, and she was about to tell him, but Keiichi responds with "I know" and gives Mion the doll. The other answer has him passing it along to Mion without fail while Rika stands there in contemplation. Different music plays depending on the answer, however.

I wonder if there's like a secret wrong end in "Massacre", so I saved the files separately. But still, I thought that was rather interesting. Once again, "Watadamashi-hen" is still the most closely-adapted arc that had this been a full remake instead of an interquel-sequel-whatever, Rika advising Keiichi on the doll still wouldn't be out-of-place. Maybe.
Another epiphany, I think "Watadamashi-hen" is related to this brief statement:

Someone here made a few comments about how Shion's name wasn't listed in the credits throughout that arc, which reflects this idea of Mion having actually disguised herself as her sister the entire time. Only thing stopping that from being true is we got to see them both onscreen, but I don't think it's completely incorrect to assume this, either.

So it's quite possible Gou could be showing us previous worlds that was only hinted at (which was honestly one of my biggest wishes), but if there's indeed a change in the rules, then I guess that's not happening. We got 11 more episodes to go, so we'll see.

Shion's name was added to the credits after the 2nd or 3rd episode in that arc.

Nekodamashi is going into more Rika meta stuff it seems based off the preview images. I feel like them saying it's showing previous worlds from all the time would feel like a copout if they did it now due to the newly established rules this time around.

If this isn't your first time reading Higurashi's VN, could you tell me how much the anime cut from it? After reading Umineko and now Ciconia, it really feels like the anime skimped out on a massive fuckton of details revolving around the story and the themes of Higurashi.

You're talking about the original anime, right? Mostly, the anime cut out some of the club activities like the curry cook-off in "Cotton-Drifting", which admittedly felt like filler ("Watadamashi" glossed over it), but so much stuff from the TIPS section weren't included in the anime, which is a shame since they reveal a lot of what goes on outside of the perspective of the narrator of the arc (mostly, "Demoned Away" still had most in Keiichi's POV like him being at the grocery store with his parents and then realizing in hindsight someone was watching him). Earlier arcs had TIPS focused solely on Ooishi talking with his colleagues about little details for the case that would otherwise go unnoticed, but it helped to enforce the belief he was Oyashiro's messenger. Keiichi's "I will end it in 1500 seconds" segment that came to be in "Curse-Killing" wasn't present, and if I remember correctly, not even Shion said it as a callback in "Massacre". "Time-Wasting" didn't show Mion (nor Shion) present with the protesters in the dam war, but it also didn't (properly) show how much more brave and cunning Toshiki Inugai is, as he faked a stomachache to get a doctor called over to signal him for help.

Another big one they cut out was Keiichi and Rena's interrogation of Mion in "Cotton-Drifting", as she ends up going on a history lesson about how Hinamizawa survived WWII, and what the Sonozaki family did with canning rations sent to soldiers in that the meat in that it was human flesh. This is actually an important detail because later on, you find out Shion can't eat canned meat due to being told the story by Kasai as a little girl. Mion knows it, too, but she doesn't obsess over that tidbit like Shion does. They cut that down due to time constraints, but a lot of stuff involving the Sonozakis was cut, thereby watering down their presence and importance in Hinamizawa, like they really beat it into your head in the sound novel just how influential the family is on the village since it's Rule Z. For the Atonement arc, Keiichi's confrontation of Mion to see if she was behind the conspiracy after Rena told him about Hinamizawa Syndrome was also cut. She reveals Takano being a kook always telling stories as well as mentions that a secret highway project is in the works to better open up Hinamizawa in the 21st century. This interaction is what leads Keiichi into tracking down Rena at her hideout to try and talk her out of her delusion.

I am still set on saying "Watadamashi" is the closest adaptation of anything Higurashi. Besides giving the doll to Mion, up until they enter the storehouse, it's practically beat-by-beat what went on in the sound novel of "Cotton-Drifting". You ask me, I think had DEEN not cut out the twin swap revelation, the anime would've had less loose ends left hanging by Kai. The fact Gou isn't showing signs of that potentially being brought up is a shame.

I'm getting ready to do a rewatch of Umineko with my brother since he hadn't seen it, but the first three episodes really did cram in so much stuff but also had to skip stuff to get to the nights faster. Still have of yet to read the sound novel, but I have read the first three arcs of the manga, and I started to see why it was fans took issue with it. It had been years since I last watched the anime, and I remember enjoying it, but the cliffhangers of those episodes were... strangely forced, to say the least.

Well shit. I feel like I got robbed of something much more special. I'm not sure when I'll get around to reading the VN since I have a bunch of shit on my backlog, but I'm looking forward to it.

I'm watching this piece of shit anime and the only redeeming qualities so far are the scuffed DameDame subs and the amazing opening and ending music. I feel like Umineko can't work in an anime format due to how long and extensive the VN can be, especially when introducing characters. It's a shame that the version where I click for most of it and see still, crudely-drawn images is more intense than the fully animated version. Also, I can't forgive the anime for skipping out on the economics scene from Episode 1, that shit got me hooked to this VN when I read it.

I'm not sure if I'll ever read the manga, but the panels I have seen of certain moments are very nicely drawn and it's clear that whoever they got to draw the manga was having a blast drawing it. I have a major gripe with the manga and how it handles certain moments of the story, but it doesn't take away from the core story as a whole and I can't go into it without going into shit from Chiru.

The manga adaptations handled it pretty well, I felt. Definitely a good alternative if one can't read the sound novel, but the sound novel is a bit more unique since it's (mainly) first-person so you can see the paranoia seep in.
