With the shutdown of the Farms a real possibility in the near future, are there other places you guys frequent to discuss anime? I came to the Farms for the cows, but I stayed because it's one of the few places left where you can talk about common interests with strangers without constantly having to watch what you say. I can honestly live without lolcows and edgy political discussion, but these parts of the Farms are the places I'd really miss if it finally goes down.

Outside of some Discord servers I'm in, I don't know of any. I don't frequent the Anime-Planet forums to know how that goes, and MAL forums are so half-half that you're just better off finding the shitposters there you like and then stay on their profile/take it to PMs to shoot the shit. (And if some little bastard pokes their head in to screech at you about your tastes/scores in anime, you just tell them to fuck off and/or block them.) Think we're just reverting back to our high school days (but in terms of Internet) in that we're being forced to keep to ourselves about anime discussions.

Pretty much only 4chan. I know that site isn't free from autism but compared to other western anime communities I still prefer it over places like twitter where people won't shut up about their social justice causes and muh problematic.

Holy shit, dude. I think that’s the most brutal way I’ve ever seen a final villain be taken out for good. Like, that’s fucking dark.

Not that she didn’t deserve it, of course.

How many episodes are there to Demon Slayer? I never got into My hero Acadamia or one piece because everything totals in the 100+ episodes or filler and I hate shows like that because they rarely wrap up with a conclusion.
It's taken them 26 episodes to cover roughly 54 chapters, with the film covering about 12 more chapters. The manga ran for 205 chapters. Unless they plan on doing further movies then Demon Slayer will probably run for about 90 - 100 episodes if they keep up the pace.

Has anyone here seen the Mugen Train film yet or read any decent reviews for it? I'm curious as to how well they pulled off fitting that entire arc into less than 2 hours, especially given how accurate the anime has been so far.

So she's gonna stick to her guns and keep it.

I found out Hong Kong-based Ani-One Asia is streaming it with English subs for the SEA region, so I bookmarked the YouTube channel to start with them next week. It's too bad Attack on Titan is blacklisted, the channel might actually gain in subscribers streaming the last season, though I find it interesting China hasn't blacklisted Higurashi despite it being just as violent as the other banned shows.
I'm reading it in Tito's voice

Seriously him and Wakka are the only two characters that say brudder like that. And both are fucking Hawaiians.

If the Farms do die I'll be very sad since this has probably been the second best place for discussion I've dealt with. 4chan's /a/ board is probably your best bet even with all the shitposting and attempts at raids by /pol/ or /v/. There's a good mixture of current and old anime plus new gets posted pretty fast there, along with live translation threads for various manga. If you like mecha/sci-fi/toku then /m/ is pretty decent but slow. Though I could also see 4chan going down too should anyone get too frisky with section 230 because I bet it has a big target on its back.

There's also the Anime subsection on Blu-ray.com that isn't bad, but I mainly use it for keeping an eye on physical releases. The site in general I more use for tracking my physical collection and new Boutique releases/quality so I can't speak much for the discussion on stuff outside that. I do like that the site enforces a strict "No Politics" rule outside the one containment thread for it. However, they also enforce a no swearing/name-calling policy if that might bother someone.

Would actively avoid r/anime though unless you like discussing the same several popular shows and don't mind dealing with a bunch of babies that can't take any criticism of their favorite shows. The amount of fellating over Attack on Titans daily on r/anime has made me never want to touch the series, it's to a ridiculous level over there. You're also unlikely to have any real discussion unless you're following an unpopular seasonal show that only gets like 20 posts each episode discussion. There's also practically zero discussion of older series unless it's one of the big popular ones.

Honestly with the farms, I wouldn't mind if Null just nuked all the political stuff and A&N or moved it off site. There's some interesting discussion that happens but a lot is just people taking things too serious and rampant baitposting to derail discussion.

There are a handful of active anime/manga-specific subreddits I post at like r/WataMote but I don't bother with r/anime because it's just too big meaning anything I'd post would have a hard time being noticed. I post on r/manga once in a blue moon but only in threads for some niche manga I read that are too niche to get their own subreddits.

Yeah /a/ is really the only other place I can comfortably discuss anime and manga. I just stay away from the popular ongoing series threads because those threads are the ones that are utter cancer. There's also the problem of the jannies on /a/ generally being incompetent and not even trying to hide their bias towards certain topics. Though if you're a big mecha fan /m/ is definitely better than /a/ because it's a slower board with actual discussion and the moderation is generally competent.

Reddit is a circlejerk where the whole upvote/downvote system actively kills discussion. Then there's the problem of redditors in general who either try to one up each other with unfunny jokes every post they make or try to insert their personal political hot takes into every discussion. Haven't touched my MAL profile since like 2008 but I've heard that the user base on that site has became pretty obnoxious over the past decade.

Thought you guys needed some of that /a/ humor today

Don’t forget 2ch/5channel. If you can find a way on how to translate it, I’m sure it will be a breeze to see how Japanese 4chan can mesh well with weaboos from the West.

I just want to say that Naoki Urasawa is amazing, 20th Century Boys is the greatest series of all time, and is basically the Japanese answer to IT minus the creepy gangbang. Also Monster is great and Billy Bat is a fucking fever dream.

SSSS.Dynazenon got a new trailer today (I think) and a bit more news, and I'm excited for it because I really liked Gridman. Unfortunately due to a certain autist going berserk already in the /a/ threads for the new series I might just have to deal without any actual fun discussion like Gridman had during the ongoing threads.

Not having a place to discuss something can really suck, but fandoms in general tend to really suck too. Vicious cycle and all that.

Since it's a show within /m/'s interests your best bet for discussion is over there if /a/ is guaranteed to be shitpost heavy, that's probably where I'll be sticking. A lot more discussion on the references to other /m/ interests and it's generally a lot more relaxed, think even the waifu posting doesn't get as bad since most are interested in the cool robots or kaiju.

Oh man I thought the fight was gonna go on a little longer but nope, cut her up one more time and fucking ate her. That was incredible. It's weird to think there's only one more chapter.

Sounds like /a/ hasn't changed in years. Dedicated anime communities kinda suck in general. I've only ever gotten good shit out of subforums like this or only tangentially anime related communities. I didn't actually know about the trailer till you posted this though thanks. I'm really damn curious about how they continue this.

Oh man I know exactly who you're talking about. He ruined the threads while Gridman was airing too, though he didn't pop in until like the fourth or fifth episode. I think he singlehandedly quadrupled my distaste of yurifags. Thankfully /m/ still had good discussion, and due to the slow nature of the board the second he popped up in those threads the mods immediately slapped him down.

I got Moribito for 84 cents lol. Apparently it used to air on Adult Swim? And its based on a book series? The girl looks like she could snap your spine.

Ok so Moribito looks like a sort of China esque tale. The girl with the staff is she based on Sun Wukong
