Get ready for more of this shit because Warner Media wants all anime airing on it's channel to have like a billion black VAs because each company is now in a Diversity Arms Race with that Hollywood mandate. This means everything on HBO max.

It's going to be the Dark Times of Double Entendres

The only silver lining is that this will put Canadians out of work.

I think Naoko intended for her to be half Romani. So no, she's not black, but Tumblr will throw a shit fit if you don't draw her super dark either way. Which is hilarious considering she never was that dark-skinned in Naoko's colored illustrations to begin with.

Burn the Witch first episodes are pretty fantastic. Reminds me why I originally really liked Bleach - good design, likable characters and decent humour. Can't wait for 40+ characters to be added to the cast along overly long battle arcs that will fuck it all up.

I mean you can always watch subs, so...

def seconding the recommendation that newcomers check out the 2006 version before taking the new one on. and the sound novels? chefs kiss. if you're uninterested in them, you should absolutely change that bc they're incredible, imo.
So what happened in chapter 3?

The only real black characters I can think of are Maestro from Rahxephon:

Dutch from Black Lagoon:

And Cheiron/Sagitta from Sakura Wars V:

But, Sagitta...you know:

I know most people probably can't stand most anitubers but I've been having fun listening to the Trash Taste Podcast that's hosted by Gigguk, CDawgVA, and TheAnimeMan. CDawgVA is definitely the stand out but they bounce off each other fairly well and have entertaining discussions on not just anime, they come off as a lot less annoying than their normal videos.

Woah, what a waste of my time. I don't get why they're so sensitive, a lot of those I don't really see much wrong with though I will admit that Cyborg 008 is probably the closest they showed to playing into the stereotypical racist caricatures. I think they should have mentioned however that the Cyborg 009 series originally came out in the 60s and his design has undergone a lot of changes. He looks like a legit monkey in the original manga.

I'm wondering why they never mentioned Kumo to Tulip when mentioning Japan making use of American stereotypes in animation, came out in 1943 and the villain is a spider that very much leans into that whole minstrel racial caricature style they were complaining about.

A lot of the stuff they count as racist is just stylization that literally every character goes through in anime, most anime uses very unrealistic appearances that in no way equal how they would appear in real life. I'm also laughing at them thinking anime is attacking them when if you want to see actual blatant racism in anime most of it is directed at other asians like Chinese or Koreans, a trait that is shared by both Chinese and Koreans in regards to Japanese.

I only just noticed I never really payed attention to skin color when watching anime and the only black character I remember is this one.

A friend who's slowly getting into anime accidentally discovered them, and I couldn't be more proud.

GKIDS just announced yesterday that they'd be release evangelion TV along with Death and Rebirth + EoE on bluray coming 2021. No details as to the specs or what is or isn't being included so I'd hold off on unloading your DVD collection.

Does this count?

Mora from Gundam 0083

Or

Dearka from Gundam SEED

Gundam has a lot of characters that I'm not entirely sure their ethnicity, like Nils from Gundam Fighters is pretty clearly Black and comes from the US.

but then Loran from Turn a is just from the moon yet is black.

There's also several characters that more lean into middle eastern like setsuna f seiei (before the movie) who comes from a made up country in the middle east.

And then there's characters like Woolf from AGE where I don't know where he's supposed to fall into. I'd also put Dearka into this category.

Already watched 2006 When They Cry, glad to see I'm not missing anything with the remake.

Also as someone currently in ch3 of Umineko, I also would like to know when that can have a proper anime. That shit is great, remember to beat yo kids.
