Has anyone here ever heard of Komi-san? Arte? (They're both mangas btw)

Since it came up I figured I may as well mention there's a VN thread in the games subforum.
No idea if I'm interested in any of the other Magica series besides if they end up doing anything more with the Madoka cast. I'm glad I ended up doing a rewatch, helped me appreciate the whole series a lot more than I previously did.
This reminds me I never heard any info anymore about the new movie that was supposed to be in development but in the meantime they made an anime about the gacha game. As a Fate/grand order player I'm kinda part of the problem but in general I'm getting kinda tired of how these days gacha games seem to take over everything.

Does anybody know about the Rebuild of Evangelion?
also what is with anime and having “Re” in the title? (Eg: Re:Zero)

Pretty much every VN is better than its adaption with the exception of phone games.

I can argue the anime for CLANNAD: After Story was better than the visual novel, though. Especially the scene where Sanae went to Tomoya to express her concerns about Nagisa's pregnancy and asking him to talk to Nagisa about it so they could decide as a family together if she should get an abortion or not. Nagisa of course refused, but it's better than the VN where Sanae uncomfortably was trying multiple times to coerce Tomoya into taking Nagisa in to get an abortion, not even once suggesting Nagisa would ever have a say in the matter.

Also Miyazawa's route in the visual novel was really weak since Jun Maeda just wasn't satisfied with how her story went so they cut it short, but it was better handled in the anime. Still is a shame Kappei Hiiragi never made it into the anime, though, probably couldn't figure out how to slip him in.

This brings up a question, though: If we're to take Tomoyo After as actual canon, then would this suggest that Tomoya should get a brain tumor as well after the events of CLANNAD? Why give him a brain tumor for Tomoyo's route but not anyone else's?

I dropped Komi when they started that love triangle bs. I might pick it up again one of these days, but the gal shit ticked me off, same with Kaguya.

Re:Zero is named that both because its full name is "Restarting life in another world from Zero" and the main character's power is "Return by Death(0)"

Japan loves smashing words to shorten shit.

Oregairu is getting another season
Uzaki-Chan is confirmed to have a second season on the way

Everything is alright OK in this world

I tried watching the anime but didn't continue after the first few episodes. The thing that I think the anime really missed is that the VN gives a really good feeling of loneliness to the player. The main character has bad people skills and most routes would be only you and the girl you choose rather than having some harem around the main character. But I'll admit that Kyoani did some of the best adaptions of VNs ever . :(

I finally got around to watching this really obscure super robot show called Galaxy Cyclone Braiger J9 in English, and I seriously loved it way more than I should have. The premise is that humanity spreads out and colonizes the Solar System in the future, spreading out as far as Pluto. However, with that comes corruption, and criminal forces entwined with colonization projects are called Connections (I'm guessing they were trying to refer to the French Connection) and are powerful enough to control entire governments and have their own space fleets. Their nonstop gang wars (Imagine Mexico, but on a solar system scale) harm the lives of innocents and threaten to destroy the Solar System. In the asteroid belt in a pleasure world asteroid a group of mercenaries calling themselves the J9 Cosmorangers act as shadow police for people wronged by the connections, and have their own super robot called Bryger to fight for justice.

Despite being a low budget early 80's anime it was refreshing to have a show with rock & roll as a major theme instead of idol group shit (Even the BGM was unusually good) and to have main characters acting like adults doing adult things like drinking and gambling. It's also interestingly enough the first TV braodcast anime to have an on-screen sex scene, and I thought the way they portray it was pretty damn artistic and realistic. All for a show that apparently set out originally to be a rip off of Space Adventure Cobra and Lupin.

I've seen the OP be referenced in other anime such as Watamote.

The main villain, Kamen Kamen is Egyptian themed (And assassinates his enemies and people who fail him with cobras), has an awesome mocking villain laugh, and glitters like he's straight out of a Shoujou manga. He's also fabulous enough that I was pondering he could fit neatly into Stardust Crusaders. I also dare say his theme song has one of the grooviest basslines I've ever heard.

Other awesome songs from the anime:

Braiger got two follow up series that are also correspondingly obscure, Baxinger and Sasuraiger which I've never seen but have managed to hear some of their soundtrack, and it's just as great. This track from Sasuraiger is easily my favorite anime song:

Anyone else have obscure anime series they think they're one of the only fans of?

KumaMiko: Girl Meets Bear even if I fully admit the mindbroken Machi ending they gave the anime, not based on anything from the manga, was garbage. But the second OVA mini-episode showed Machi back to "normal" at the end leaving the possibility of continuing the series in the future (which likely won't happen but I'm only saying it's possible).

Mad Bull 34 and Di Gi Charat seem pretty obscure to me, since I’m the only one that seems to know about it. Of course, the former is a movie and the latter is a short form anime that was originally supposed to be a commercial.

Oooh another obscure mecha anime to check out. *jots it down*

It's not obscure, but Ushio & Tora has gone under the radar for many people in the West, which is a shame.

Going through my list, I'll have to say I think The World of Narue was surprisingly rather darling even though it's your typical romance between a human boy and an alien girl (well, she's half, and there's some discrimination when it comes to that). It's rather slow, though, it's like a subdued Urusei Yatsura now that I think about it, but I thought the couple to be cute.
The manga actually came out here, but it was never finished because Central Park Media went defunct, and no one's rescued the license.

Then there's Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel. It's honestly been a long, long while since I last watched it (OP's for the two-episode OVA) but I remember really liking it even though it looks so generic, and I think deep down I fear not liking it as much if I do a rewatch (but I'm gonna have to eventually). For a pachinko magical girl game, it managed to get a couple of TV series, but I didn't care for the first TV show from 2011 all that much in comparison to the OVA (still liked it), and I haven't seen the 2017 sequel yet. But yeah, maybe it's the most obscure magical girl show I've liked next to Shamanic Princess.

I actually just finished watching Uzaki-Chan and decided to go read the manga. I'm caught up on the story and it's pretty good. It's sad when you run out of content though.

I did catch a comment on the last chapter though for recommendations on other things to read. I came across this gem:

HOW I STALKED SOME DUDE WITH AN EXPOSED NIPPLE AND STUMBLED UPON THE ZENITHIAN SWORD

How's that for a title? It took a few chapters to figure out but the story is centered around one of the Dragon Quest games. The main character is just an npc that sits by a bonfire watching some person's house in a town while the main hero just does his heroing elsewhere. The story is just a joke that takes itself seriously to the point of being funny anyway. The NPC does go on some grand adventure but I haven't read far enough to see what that entails yet.

I had a ton but for some reason my Kitsu account got deleted and now I've lost my entire watchlist of 200-300 shows, which kind of sucks. I can't remember the Japanese names of some of the obscure shows either (they weren't dubbed, so didn't get English titles), so I guess I'll have to stumble across them accidentally all over again.

Yeah, so now I've having to go back through and re-add them all. Also Kitsu now has some cartoons on there like Teen Titans and Avatar, it's pretty nice to see someone finally realise cartoons and anime are the same thing. :smug:

Hope you also play the Fate series as well. I saw the playthrough online on YT.

So Fate is fully available on Steam? Sounds like it'll be more expensive than CLANNAD tbh, but I could try it out one day.

EDIT: So I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised that visual novels just aren't played much by Westerners, but you mean to tell me that only just under 20% of Steam players who downloaded the game finished Onikakushi-hen? Suggesting fewer and fewer players were able to go through the entire sound novel?

Honestly am just scratching my head over this lol. Higurashi only got put on Steam by popular demand, if I remember right. Unless fans are just picking-and-choosing their favorite arcs to play through or the newcomers are just too taken aback by the beginning to really get invested because ("I came for the horror and slaughtering of lolis, where's the horror and loli-killing? One star."), this is kinda nuts to me?

It sadly isn't. Nor is Tsukihime or even the more recent Witch on the holy night. Not a one. There easy to find online though and Fate, Tsukihime and their sequels are all online as is Battle Moon, which I liked.

Ready for some real lunacy?
Fate Extra Umbra Star and Extra Link are on steam. Now you heard me right. Not the VN that made those fans. The Extra series. Not even first two. Oh, but they have Melty Blood. The spin off of Tsukihime. A dated decades old fighter that you will have no clue if you haven't read the VN's. Fuck Type Moon.

Now, that being said. There are some very nice VNs on Steam. Clannad, 428 Shibuya Scramble, Steins Gate, Danganropa. Song of Saya if you like Butcher and want to read one of the most messed up things in the last twenty years.
