From what I've gathered on some sites, today is the birthday of a character from the first Sakura Taisen games and anime:

They never really mention what happened to her in the new games or even the new anime. She was referenced once in the intro, but that 's it. Maybe they'll explain her fate in the sequels?

A bit of a spergout: this is how you write a strong woman in games. Though she is a bit muscular she isn't that exaggerated unlike a certain someone we keep talking about in a certain sequel. And she is at least pleasant and has a better personality. I just wish her endings were better.
Everyone from the OG Games got stuck in Shadow Tokyo and are still there.

Brothers love anime. Anime is growing in the west at an insane rate.
The brother like certain anime, but they aren't getting crunchy roll accounts. When it comes to stuff like DBZ, one piece, and MHA yeah they'll watch that but shonen battle anime is a small sliver of the anime industry, and it's fans are hardly reliable consoomers.

I love it when people say anecdotal crap without backing it up.

I cite to shit all the time. Sorry this one time triggered you.

Not necessarily.

one piece, DBZ and Naruto. 1, 3 and 5 respectively.

Same with Anime. It's about fifty fifty. They have a part to play. But your right about one thing, crunchy roll and funi aren't making the kind of inroads into American submarkets that they should. That's why I call it the future. You have a product, that people seem to like on things like Cartoon Network. How do you expand that? In the West its all about distribution.

Well because I tend to find that those who say a blanket statement like that without citing sources like to just be an armchair expert most of the time.
You remind me of this dude I was talking to the other day who was talking about how Game Passes were the future and said a whole bunch of blanket statements like he was some kind of expert on the subject.

Not sure if anyone reads the Jinmen manga but spoilers for that. It's nothing amazing but the concept was fun at first. Rough summary is that animals gain super intelligence and their faces turn into human faces, now they want to kill all human and create their own "country" basically. Anyway this happened in the latest chapter of the manga:

The manga introduced one black character (so far) and it turned her into a female gorilla-hybird... :story:

I agree, its like saying that the audience that turns out for Marvel movies are going to be in-general movie goers. Just because they come out for Infinity War doesn't mean they'll appreciate shit like The Lighthouse.

Plus while its a bit of a meme to say, a lot of anime were made to specifically shill out their light novel/manga counterparts. The amount that bother with that is so slim its unremarkable. 99% of the people I know irl that watch MHA and shill it constantly have never heard of Vigilantes, and think reading is lame.

The top 10 best selling manga has nothing to do with what anime black people like, or really what anime westerners in general like. The list doesn't even break in down by countries or demographics.

*sigh*

Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji Omnibus: Vol.2 has been pushed back a week in advance.
Instead of 10/6, it will be 10/13 apparently.

everywhere else for the time being is saying that the release date is 10/6/2020
Well at least it's not another entire month (yet). But still this is the 3rd delay I've counted thus far already and I'm left to wonder exactly what the hell is going on over there.

This is true, but Dragon Ball and Naruto really are extremely popular among black Millennials and Zoomers in general. I've noticed a lot of black guys who aren't even into anime as a whole really do seem to like DBZ and Naruto. My Hero Academia is mostly for Zoomers in general and Late Millennial cat ladies who think all other anime is "problematic" (except Sailor Moon because muh nostalgia and muh lesbians)

Attention Uzaki-Chan fans. There's some bad news to report. Funimation is going to dub Uzaki-Chan with a shit cast that likes to treat the fans like shit.

Sshhhhhh, never interrupt the enemy while they are making a mistake.

So basically, SOME Anime/Manga are popular with the normies and non-whites in America.

On a side note, I really need to watch Hero Academia eventually.

As far as shonens go MHA is generally pretty competent, but honestly I just feel like I've grown out of its demographic. The one thing I seriously hate about it is how a lot of conflicts are resolved literally by just punching the opponent harder. I rage quit the show after it was revealed that All For One's master plan for dealing with All Might that he'd spent a hundred years sitting in prison thinking of was literally just to use a bunch of quirks to make a super powerful fist with which to punch All Might REALLY FUCKING HARD. Yes, seriously. All Might defuses this plan by just punching All For One even harder than his super fist could punch. Yes, seriously. I was fine putting up with the minor issues I had with the show beforehand but after that fight I dropped it like a rock, and now have zero interest in ever coming back to it, which is a shame because I keep up with some Youtubers who cover the manga and it does legitimately seem to have some interesting stuff coming up.

While it's far from trash and infinitely more watchable than the long-running shonens of yesteryear thanks to a near-total lack of filler and a generally quick pace, at the end of the day it's kinda still just a shonen played-straight. It's a pretty good starter anime (and I'm not surprised at all that it blew up like crazy in the West), but if you've already watched a bunch of other shows I dunno how much you'd get out of MHA.

I personally dropped it after the SEVEN QUIRKS bullshit but I might pick it up again one of these days if I get bored. Its fine. I agree that its fairly competent, at least until spoiler, which wasn't really all that bad. Though imo if you want the barebones shonen that's still ongoing I'd probably recommend other series first. Black Clover if you want speed, Demon Slayer if you want to go full battle mode, and Jujutsu Kaisen if you want to rant about powers and fights.

The newest episode of Fruits Basket was a lot of fun, really great adaption of the play. It took up a large part of the episode but I'm glad they didn't skip it or speed through it because I remember it being a lot of fun in the manga. Hanajima really stole the show but there was a lot of great moments with the other side/background characters.

I'm going to miss this when the season ends though I'll have the next one to look forward to. It's the only thing I've been interested in watching this season besides maybe Deca-Dence since I've seen it praised in a couple places, going to just wait for it to finish though. At least next season has a number of shows I'm interested in checking out.

I tried getting into the series through the manga but after a bit I just lost interest and have no interest in watching the anime. I found Deku to just be really boring and I didn't really care what happened to him, plus the fights just devolved into PUNCH HARD.

Kimetsu no yaiba I found to be a lot better with both the fights and the characters. Tanjirou is a lot more endearing and the secondary cast is enjoyable. I've read to read the manga that far past the anime, plan to at some point, but comparing to two based on what I've read of both it's better.

The arcs definitely vary in quality. That particular bit was dumb but immediately afterwards we get My Villain Academia and whatever the current running arc is called which makes up for everything imo. Speaking of MHA, somehow the spinoff "Vigilante" is better than the main series has ever been. The character writing is miles ahead of the main series, and though the scale is lower, the stakes are much more personal. Anyone who's ever felt dissatisfied with My Hero Academia should read this spinoff, there's a reason it's the only spinoff material that's explicitly shown as canon to the main series. You don't even have to read the main series to understand it.

Also how is Jujutsu Kaisen? With Demon Slayer over and Chainsaw Man nearly over I'm in the mood for a current shonen battle series with demons and shit.

Vigilantes is very good, and it fills a lot of the hopes people had for My Hero Academia back when it started.

As for Jujutsu Kaisen, while its not as stylistic as the others, its fairly obvious that the author was heavily inspired by Hunter x Hunter and Bleach, and he mentions it sometimes. It takes a while to set off, but I feel like its worth it. The bad guys and supporting cast all feel fairly unique, and while it isn't afraid to have characters face consequences it doesn't go full Chainsawman either. The author is a big fan of Chekov's gun and power expositions, so its a pretty good series if you like discussing stuff that pops up. That being said, there are pacing issues, and sometimes arcs just pop up unnaturally.

The anime is coming out next season, so its a good time to get into it, actually. If you're going to read it, there's a prequel, Tokyo Metropolitan Magical Technical School, that's kind of important to read. Many of the characters show up later, and it helps to figure out certain motivations. I don't know how they're going to handle it in the anime.
