Started watching Pokemon indigo on Netflix. While pokemon has become the second most autistic franchise behind sonic I still have a soft spot for the original 90s-2000ish run. Behind Jurassic Park and power rangers and Nickelodeon that show was my childhood. after school I'd come home, breeze through homework and watch whenever it was on. Really it did for anime in the 90s what dragon ball did in the 80s...in Japan anyway since DBZ was also catching steam here in the US around the same time.
The Indigo League benefits from the dubbing being a bit more gonzo so it has a unique energy to it. It's not until like mid-Hoenn to early Sinnoh where the blandness sets in.

Kind of forgot how based this ChuuniCHAD was
god hes the most urobuchi thing ive ever seen

Is that the one where she’s trying to “mind break” a magical girl and then gets super passes off when she does it because “magical girls are supposed to be stronger than that!” and leaves the magical girl very confused?
Yeah, was a great moment. Utena pulls off the perfect "It was like she was looking at walking garbage" face, before chastising her for giving in too easy.

I'm curious to see what happens later on with her because even after going through special training the magical girl is still fucked in the head and was getting turned on by sitting underneath a waterfall because of the pressure. Utena does seem to blame herself for going so hard on her.

The Orange Islands season is underrated and unfairly written off as a filler season when it has actual progression that still carried over into Johto (which is the funniest arc of the series imo, 4KIDS nailed it). Just look at Charizard--yeah he's underutilized, but he actually came to respect Ash during this time. Getting to see how Ash respects his Pokémon and use their abilities to solve problems outside of the typical battlefield was also really cool.

Indigo League only survives scrutiny because of nostalgia, but the anime really came into its own with the Orange Islands.

Also why is it up until sonic an detective Pikachu only anime based on video games was the only spin off from video games that didn't suck? Love it or hate you gotta admit the Castlevania anime went balls to the wall and took full advantage of no censorship standards. Hard to believe the same studio behind fairly odd parents is involved (no joke) going back further there's the devil may cry anime which is on Hulu and is actually quite good. Hell even that Dante's inferno ova and the dead space ova may be cliched and especially the DI one but..damn they also went all in with being R rated anime movies based on video games

Another interesting one is the street fighter 2 animated movie which is just pure enjoyable ninities schlock. Also for some reason the movie uses the song them bones (which was also sampled in Doom 2 So thats a wierd connection)

I used to watch that, but then it kind of got tiresome after a while.

Have they upgraded any of their longstanding shows like OutlawStar or Batman: TAS to HD yet? Or are they still the the DVD-quality versions?

It looks fine enough to me though Im not an expert on this kinda thing. Im more on and off since it has a select amount of shows that it cycles through and to my knowledge rarely if ever adds new ones and even then it has a cutoff date of 2003 (barring certain exceptions like movies as well as shows that started before or during that year but whose final season concluded much later as is the case with JL/JLU And Ghost in the Shell Standalone complex) so no Hellsing Ultimate, Death Note, Hunter X Hunter 2011 or FMA Brotherhood. I get why because 1. its trying to replicate Toonami at its golden age with Adult Swim Shows and other stuff thrown into the mix and 2. to avoid the copyright Gestapo (The person who set up the site also tried to get a Nickelodeon equivalent up and running but well... you know how Viacom is).

Does anyone who still cares about anime actually watch Toonami? I thought everyone had rode off to piracy or streaming sites.

I wonder who the hosts are in the Asian Toonami:

Agreed, up to a point. I think Japanese anime companies didn't even consider the issue of the Western streaming services because the market was a lower priority and at least some of them were probably coasting on contracts from before "Current Year"

The "War on Anime" SJW autism was always there but didn't really start to ramp up until 2019 or so. The Weeb Wars began that year but more importantly the MCU finally hit its peak while the woke reboots from the different studios began to bomb even harder. COVID-19 has also added a lot more fuel to the trash fire and a lot of companies are panicking. I'd say Disney is the one that is most adamant against anime and manga getting a larger foothold in America since Marvel is their bread and butter and it's the only one of Iger's grand conquests that actually paid off in the long run. The MCU is primed for a downfall and the capeshit fad will die out with it, and Disney will no longer be the invincible titan it was in the 2010's.

At least Warner has Toonami and Crunchyroll while Sony has Funimation and Aniplex, Disney has nothing like that because they've never needed it all that much.

The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker did avoid becoming box office bombs but they both really underperformed and basically killed one of the biggest media franchises in history. The Fox buyout was massive and they've not fully digested all the debt from it.

Unless Disney decides to change course on anime and makes deals like their old Studio Ghibli distribution deal and tries to focus more on Kingdom Hearts as a franchise, they're the ones who are most likely to get hit the hardest if we get a second Anime Boom.

As for the studios in Japan, they're seeing a lot of new potential in these markets and will gladly follow the money. The only foreign censors I could see them bending the knee for would be China

For what it's worth Disney Channel Asia did air some anime that was dubbed locally. Maybe they can pick those up since some of them didn't have a US release?

For anyone who liked the show, the new chapter for Id:Invaded the sequel manga came out. Its been pretty good so far. I'm really digging the new detective designs.

Also chapters for Touge Oni, Primal Gods in Ancient Times have started dropping. If you like SCP type of stuff, you might want to check it out.

I can't download it, but someone should before it gets deleted.

Edit: I made it work

TFW you're childhood hero disappoints you so much you wish you never met him... remember that episode of aqua teen hunger force where Carl tossed out a poster of Bart Oates when he was being sold to San Francisco? Sums up my feelings perfectly.

Normies who like dubs do.

Not just them, but a lot of people still tune in to Toonami for the sake of nostalgia since it's really the last remnant of the old 2000's "Anime Boom" and because watching anime on Toonami/Adult Swim has become less about the shows and more about "the experience", as autistic as that likely sounds. It's a widespread feeling for a lot of Core and Late Millennials, and maybe the oldest of the Early Zoomers as well.

Plus, a lot of people are worried that if Toonami dies, then Adult Swim will completely gut anime altogether. That fear's not entirely unjustified, but part of me wonders if it would be a mercy kill at this point.

Get your rainbow stickers ready, but part of me thinks that if Toonami can survive the remainder of 2020 and go into 2021, we might see anime become more prominent on Adult Swim once the big anchors of Family Guy and Bob's Burgers are gone. Squidbillies is as good as dead without Unknown Hinson and Rick & Morty probably doesn't have much longer to go either.

Tim Heidecker's live-action unfunny stoner shit is even more played out and has overstayed its welcome worse than Rick & Morty but it's just cheap enough to remain on the block despite the fact those shows often do worse than Toonami in the ratings. Tim also knows the right people at Williams Street from the looks of it, but all it takes is one fuckup and he'll get axed.

There's also the possibility that we might see a wider backlash against the Woke Left and cancel culture depending on how the 2020 Election ultimately plays out now that Antifa/BLM have an undeniable body count fully caught on video and unable to be properly memory holed by the national mainstream media outlets (for now, anyway) so it's possible that we could see Toonami get better (unlikely, but one can hope) since they'll want to win back the crowd as much as they can once they lose their two biggest shows and as it is, this boilerplate promo has probably hurt them a lot as it is thanks to the incredibly unlucky timing of it.

The one thing I'd love to see is if the last third of 2020 ends up being a scenario where Clown World goes so insane that it loops around and the most unlikely good things happen throughout September, October, November, and December like Vic getting the best outcome on the appeals, Trump winning 2020, Antifa and BLM fucking up even worse and forcing the hand of the DNC, and "cancel culture" finally going the way of the Satanic Panic but not before Tim Heidecker and Christopher Sabat end up as its final victims.

Give me all the rainbows and other angry stickers you want, and I'm well aware none of that will ever happen (except maybe Trump winning 2020) but a man can dream.

The ratio just keeps getting worse lol. I already contributed a dislike. They want to play this game? Brigade that bitch!

I have not watched it in ages because I don't care about Shonen crap that goes on for a billion episodes and then never gets a proper conclusion. It's why i don't bother with One Piece.

I've been hording physical copies because Warner media is going to fucking crack down hard big time on streaming sites and other shit that's not tied to HBO Max. Like when Nintendo nuked a gorillion emulation sites, but it's going to be worse because Warner Media is a much larger company.
