Saw it in person and it was beyond based. They did a great job of giving the characters equal time and not just focusing on wormslut. Plus incredible animation and a great ost make this one a classic.

What did you think of

choosing the fan service ending rather than the OG one? I hope they do an OVA so we get both.

I'm shamelessly shilling for Ping Pong: The Animation being the best anime ever, and the dub is fantastic. I want to hear @Secret Asshole's analysis (even though he probably hates me after I convinced him to watch Mars of Destruction).

Nah, I actually thought it was pretty hysterical. It was so funny it was bad sort of things. Plus it was only like 20 minutes so its not like it wasted a ton of my time.

i went to this thread just to post about it. finished it just now and i had a great time. did not dig the animation at first but it quickly grew on me and by the end, i loved it. it was a nice "growing up" story about kids who love ping pong more than anything trying to find themselves a place in the world and while it could be very depressing at times, it was also uplifting and hopeful. that you could still have a decent life even if things dont go as planned or, if you give up on your dreams and try something else.

compering yourselves to others wont make you happy. its not shameful to acknowledge your own limits.

I actually really like the side cast so I was happy with it but I can see why people prefer the old one.

Now check out the 2002 live-action movie. The anime didn't have Peco go in the beginning of the movie "I CAN FLYYY!" while standing on top of a bridge railing and a police officer cheering on "Yeah! You can do it! :D", before realizing what he was saying. It also has Mari Natsuki (voice-actress of Yubaba from Spirited Away) as Peco's chain-smoking mentor.

Is anyone else reading Sousou no Frieren? Its fairly new, but pretty good. If you like stuff like The Faraway Paladin or Delicious in Dungeon, you might like it.

Its about an elf mage's journey after defeating the demon lord with the hero's party and slowly outliving them all. While its melancholic in tone, its not cheap tearbait or anything. I'd reccomend it if you're the type to read things as they come out.

That ANN survey about piracy really needed a couple of "I know and I don't care, yo-ho-ho!" answers.

Or, closer to my own scanlation policy, "I read them online for free and buy them if/when they get a western physical manga release".

huh?

Either way, how can an audience you aren't selling to cost you money? Like pirating TM shit. They still haven't localized twenty year old games.

Assuming they don't exclusively do the most mainstream shit, this would be a pretty ballsy move to fuck over Sony and anyone else looking to corner the localization market.

Well, needless to say, I looked into this.

It turns out that the YouTube channel is actually up. What do they have there?

Mostly old Nippon Animation and Tezuka titles, and you can't access them outside of Japan. And the articles on it imply they aren't going much further than that.

Don't get me wrong, of course, this is pretty cool. And if they expand it to the rest of the world and put on subtitles, even better. But if this is what's gonna take down Crunchyroll and Funimation, they got a long way to go. How many people in this thread are gonna watch anime about 19th century children suffering?

I would tbh, having Nippon Animation works all in one place would be super convenient and I wouldn't have to worry about it disappearing on me. Would also make it some of the few anime I could just throw up on the YouTube app around the family and just enjoy some quality family time watching animated historical-fiction dramas.

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san

In the words of Nyaruko-san, this anime is....

Its pretty clever how they managed to turn a H.P. Lovecraft story into something so funny and whimsical at the same time. To be fair, most of the slapstick humor in this show reminds me of Kanokon and Girls Bravo! It can be good for certain scenes, but it does get a bit repetitive after a while.

Either way, if you love Call of Cthulhu, you will love this one.

Because the answers were multiple choice but the ones where you admit to pirating always had some kind of negative spin to them. I think a lot of people are aware of the legal status of fansubs and scanlations but download/stream them anyway.

That makes two of us.

But they have the most cheerful endings to them! Just have to ignore the death, horrifying situations, and child abuse literally every episode.
I have to watch more WMT, comfiest shows ever if you don't mind watching 19th century children suffering.

Never seen the show itself but I've heard one of its openings many different times from various Japanese shitposts since it was a popular mix. Was one of the numerous anime to get a Z-Kai Commercial MADs made.

Some more because they're a lot of fun and well made:
Not even scratching the surface of how many still get made after how many years its been a meme. I really like the dedication a lot of Japanese shitposters have to certain memes, like its been how long and memes still get made about Ronald McDonald.

A hero appears, a hero appears, a hero appears!

I loved the 5 main characters and their different reasons for playing.

Peco: He's talent incarnate and loves the game, but he got too cocky and started skipping training to hustle people at the local table tennis club. Lost motivation to after his skipping training bit him in the arse in the practice match vs China. His ego got even more bruised when he lost the first tournament, but he finally remembered that table tennis is a blast.

Smile: Got into it because Peco dragged him into it but he kept playing because of how much Peco enjoyed the game and it bonded them together. Got bored of it when he showed he had talent, but he just wanted to play for fun, he didn't want the pressure of playing in tournaments. Then the hero finally appeared and reminded him how much fun they both used to have.

China: Didn't make it in the Chinese nationals so he got kicked off the team and got a job teaching Japanese players. He considered them beneath him so he never trained with them, and when he skunked Peco he felt like playing against the Japanese was an insult. Even though he was pretty much always hostile to his team they still banded around him and he decided to take his training job seriously.

Dragon: Practically forced into playing by his father, spent every waking moment of his life training to live up to his father's expectations even though he was neglecting his girlfriend. He constantly hid away before matches because he was scared of letting his father and his team down, but then he played The Hero, who showed him how to have fun while playing.

Demon: Desperately wanted to be good at the sport, despite his terrible eyesight, but he didn't have the natural talent for it, so he instead relied on reading up on strategies and watching a bunch of videos, hoping that could make up for it. Sadly, between his astigmatism and lack of talent no matter how much work he put in would be enough to keep up.

Well, that's my analysis of the main characters, at least. @Secret Asshole don't read these until you watch the show for yourself and come up with your own analyses.

Holy hell, MHA manga is getting brutal fast. Death flags all over, and one definite death.
RIP Grand Torino

I would like to dedicate this post to sperg about anime titles.

Also is Re:[something] means anything in particular? There a bunch of animes with Re:[something] title.
