Holy shit, in the latest JoJo episode the name changes in the subs for the D'Arby brothers are so fucking dumb. I know guys, instead of giving them actual names, let's just call them Younger and Elder! That's a great idea!
All the name changes I feel are pretty terrible. Remember when they renamed J.Geil as Centerfold?

I mentioned this before already, but the only reason to ever watch Cromartie dubbed is because it was so terribly done, the show's even funnier because of it. It's not even like Ghost Stories where they changed the script into a comedic one, they simply just went with zero voice direction and waited to see the results

Still better voice direction than 4Kids ever gave its shows

To be fair despite the bad shit 4Kids done in the past, they had some good voice actors. The voice actors of 4Kids just worked with shitty scripts. Not their fault. I'll rent Cromartie again so I can watch the dub version. I've noticed that gag anime don't tend to do well with English dubs. Space Dandy is the only exception.

At the very least, that one had effort put into it, Centerfold being a song by the J. Geils Band. I finally figured out that if the character's name is the name of a band or musician, then it's going to get changed. Song names and albums are free game. The only real exception to the rule was Polnareff.

Still doesn't excuse the stupidity of "Dan of Steel" and "D'Arby Elder & Younger". I can understand changing Telence/Terence(?) T. D'Arby since that's much closer to the actual musician's name, still don't get why they didn't keep Daniel J. D'Arby though.

It's pretty much a given that they're going to be changing Vanilla Ice to "Iced" like they did in the English version of part 3

The creator of Tokyo Ghoul, Sui Ishida, discovered the Pepe meme and posted this on his Twitter.

Franken Fran was licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment for North American distribution today.
Now I sort of regret betting the company that if they did, I'd get a tattoo of their logo.

So I met with my sister and her boyfriend during lunch today. We talk and I begin to tell her about Jojo, just to let her know how crazy it is for fun. I give a very rough summary of Phantom Blood, list some of the characters named after bands and show them Stroheim vs. Cars. Specifically the Nazi Cyborg with a machine gun in his chest firing at, what I called while looking for the right word, a "super vampire." Yeah, I know not accurate but just to give her the idea.

They thought the series sounded like what happens when someone listens to classic rock while doing LSD.

I tell my sister there's another series I'm reading, Berserk. I just told her it made Game of Thrones look happy and, when questioned about how, gave Guts' backstory through Griffith becoming a demon. I mention being born from a hanged corpse, prostituted, abusive father, finally finding happiness and love only to lose it all.

She thinks it sounds awesome. Doubt she'll start reading (she doesn't read manga or watch anime) but she's interested.

I'm kinda surprised Crunchyroll went with All Star Battle's name change and called Vanilla Ice, "Cool Ice" instead of the English manga name. They've been going with some of the other name changes for characters like Devo and the Oingo Boingo brothers I expected as much. It really doesn't matter anyway, I always thought Cool Ice had a nicer ring to it than Iced

Which anime would you guys classify as hidden gems? I've been meaning recently to look into the older stuff to see if anything seems interesting.

I never thought I would ever call a JoJo episode boring, but the last episode was just stupid. Terence T. D'Arby does not at all deserve more than 2 episodes. All he does is brag about how he's a genius and is better than his older brother, someone who actually WAS an awesome villain. They better finish the fight quickly so we could finally move on to Vanilla Ice.

Also DIO's look has been revealed. His face is still covered even though we all know exactly how he looks like

What took them so long? I think it finished here about three years ago. The early volumes are the best.

Depends on what you mean by "hidden gem." Free! is a really good sports anime that is completely overlooked by guys because of its excessive fanservice (it's about swimming, so there are a lot of abs). It's not old though.

I recently found a pretty great shonen from the 90s called Ushio to Tora that I'm really enjoying. It got an old OVA, but it's getting a new anime this year.

Basically, any anime that was reasonably good and either didn't get very popular or faded into obscurity.

Kekkaishi. Fantastic newer shonen with an interesting story, lovable characters, and great fights. The anime never got renewed past the first season for reasons beyond me, despite the fact it was really well-received.
