Hell I'm still waiting for the day the West finally figures out what the East did decades ago.

That Fujos are the absolute bottom feeders of fandom * worst then the thristy dude-bros they claim to hate * and deserve to be shit on.
Pandering to japanese fujoshi does make sense from a business perspective considering they're the ones that made Free!, Yuri on ice, and Osomatsu-san top sellers during their time, so I dunno if you can really say they're being shat on considering there's still a market for that audience. What makes western fujoshi cringy is that they only have the autism and don't actually spend money on the shit they like.

Glad that it looks like Fruits Basket is continuing, the story is about to hit the more drama intensive second half that the first series never got to. I'm curious to see how much this season will cover since I think there's going to be a third season, doubt they could get to the end of the series with just this season.
My main problem with a lot of romance in anime is that at some point pretty much everyone knows the pairing (or at least the girls that have an actual shot) yet they'll still waste time implying romance with characters that have no chance in hell.
An equally annoying situation that plagues most romance is the third wheel that appears right after the main couple has finally gotten together just to cause drama. After how many chapters of wanting the main couple to get together, finally it happens to satisfy the hungry readers, and yet there's no time to enjoy them becoming a couple due to the author throwing in a rival. It's also almost always stupid drama that wouldn't happen if the main couple actually talked to each other to clear up misunderstandings.

I have the hardest time getting invested into the genre now because of how much predictable crap takes place with unlikable main characters. Drama has its place, but so many authors put no effort into blending it well into the story especially if the only real center for conflict is the relationship.

Is on purposes, low tier anime fans dont notice that some pairings are for the purposes of merchandising, Sunrise weaponized this on Love Live and Idolmaster followed it later, also the story can and will change in some cases depend of the popularity of some characters for example To love ru shitcanned Lala on the second part of the manga to push her sisters and yami even when she was the protagonist only because they were more popular

Eh, I thought it was ok except he never gets laid. Ever. Even in the LN. So even harem anime suffers the same problem.

In earlier works, yes, it was a rule that the protagonist should EVER NEVER get laid to prevent the rage of the shippers, but because Shippers same as SJW are poor fucks that dont buy merchadising anyway Japan decide to told them to F themselves and bend that rule as much as is need, also this has helped in some ways to improve the story because some authors apparently dont know what to write after the hero get laid, if you see 90-2000 anime is more apparent that is why the hero getting laid was relegated to the final episode, i think only gundam seed got away with it

I always thought the reason no one gets laid in anime/manga was because that afterwards the heroine is seen as "used goods".

Even hearing the name "Fruits Basket" makes me feel old.
I get the same way whenever someone mentions how long ago shows actually aired that I remember watching live. Ouran is another one of those early shoujo shows I want to see get the Fruits Basket treatment and that first aired back in 2006.

Makes me wonder if they'll do a new Glass mask anime at some point, they had one back in 2005 but it didn't adapt the whole thing since it was still ongoing at the time (since 1976 and it's still ongoing now after a short break in 2006). I'm still upset that Sentai only released the first half before bailing because of "low sales" and no one has touched it since. Maiden Japan did recently release the original series from 1984, but I have no idea if the longer 2005 anime has any chance. Similar situation to Oniisama e where it had one limited release and nothing since, very hard to find the oop volumes for my collection *sigh* Wish there was more of an English market for old Shoujo because I find them much more enjoyable than newer titles, it was already a miracle that Rose of Versailles got the limited release that it did.

I think it's more a problem if the girl has slept with anyone before the main character, that's when they're usually considered "used goods" by those that care about such things. The Kannagi manga drama is quite a legendary case of that kind of drama, fans were more upset about the idea one of the girls had a previous boyfriend.

Eh correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the series end
with him having kids with his entire harem?
that said I agree the blue balling especially in more ecchi works is annoying.

Well Fujoshi literally means "rotten girl" and while it's true there's works that cater to that niche you don't see traditionally male dominated brands and fandoms being warped to appeal to them like you've been seeing in the West for the last half decade. And well from from what I've seen outside of works that cater to them Fujos aren't exactly welcome in most fandoms.

Add another series to the pile of "delayed because Wu Flu." This time it's Gal and Dino:

This week will be the last new episode until they can resume production sometime in the future. They'll be rerunning episodes 1-5 in the following weeks. Thanks again, China.

Damn, the list of stuff I'm watching right now that's undelayed is getting smaller and smaller. It's only 4 shows at this point.

I'm kinda disconnected from Corona, didn't it become pretty managable in the Far East, or that's just propoganda?

It's still causing trouble over there and not just in anime production. Besides anime, I also have an interest in Toku and know that both Kamen Rider Zero-One along with Super Sentai Kiramagers have been put on hiatus for the next several weeks at minimum because it's unsafe to continue filming on location. They managed for the last several weeks as they film chunks of episodes in advance but it's unclear when either will start up again. Given that both Kamen rider and Super Sentai are yearly series it's also up in the air what is going to happen to either shows episode length and if they'll have to cut things short.

There was also a scare with Kiramagers as the actor for the Red ranger had a confirmed case of corona which caused toei to shutdown the studio they were filming at for a deep clean (Tokyo branch I think) with most likely all the crew having to be tested and production halted. Thankfully, he was able to recover but Toei never started production for the series again .

Also unrelated to Toku, they're probably also having shutdowns of any businesses that would cause people to congregate and have asked people to stay inside if possible. I'm mainly basing this on clubs in Japan like MOGRA switching up from streaming events live from the club to each dj streaming from their apartment or outright cancelling events. They also have a note on their site mentioning that it's in compliance with government special measures around corona which have at least extended to the end of May.

In Japan, it's pretty serious. Most of the delayed titles still don't have any information as to when they'll resume. Odds are at this rate, most of them will either end up returning in the Fall or just be delayed until next year. Which sucks, since that only leaves about four titles left, and with one of them (Sunrise's adaptation of Wave, Listen to Me), there's no information as to just how many episodes were in the can before the lockdown. As mentioned already, the lockdown restrictions over there got extended to the end of May, but I get the feeling it'll wind up getting extended again the way things are are.

As for the rest of Asia, I'm not convinced about China's numbers (for obvious reasons), and the other countries like Korea and Taiwan have been rather mum about their cases.

I've only watched the first season, but I believe in the third season, Issei's future children travel to the past to help him and the girls about a big threat. It's implied that he's too busy to get laid because he's seen as a hero who's literally powered by his breast obsession (and ironically chickening out whenever the girls come onto him). No really, his theme song is all about huge tits:

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and subbing to Crunchyroll. It seems better than funimation, and I've only got Hulu, Netflix and HDIVE. The former two aren't really for anime and Sentai is kinda limited. Pirating is annoying because I have to use my computer instead of my smart TV. The problem is I hate censorship and changing of the dialogue, though I know that's more common with Funi than Crunchyroll. Can someone tell me if this is a terrible idea? Or should I just continue sailing the high seas?

I mean, everyone is a perma virgin at the end of a lot of manga/anime, even if they do have a love interest. I think it has less to do with that, since it happens equally to the men as to the women. One of the exceptions is the protagonist of Gun x Sword who basically declares to all love interests to fuck off, he's a virgin and he's only for his wife. Who died and he's not doing shit until he murders the guy that killed her. Also everyone watch Gun x Sword.

Its just a time travel plot. His kids go back in time, he never actually gets it on with any of them in the LN, so its only 'implied' which is some stupid bullshit. Its like 'get out of fuck free card'. Also the later on in the series transforms less into an Ecchi/Harem and more into a Shonen type deal.

I dunno if Crunchyroll ever got around to making their player not-shit (that was one of the big points of contention when High Guardian Spice was announced: "our sub fees are going to this garbage when your player's barely functional?"), but if you're yo-ho-hoing HorribleSubs releases, then you're getting the same thing as Crunchyroll, except you get to keep the vids forever and can watch them without dealing with a web player. And you can't beat free. Actual fansub groups produce better subs nine+ out of ten times, but you've got to wait for 'em, if a fansub group even picks up the show you want to watch. If you want to see shit as it's coming out of Japan, HorribleSubs is alright, but definitely not worth paying for. Sail away.

The standard "but I want to support the industry!" rebuttal to yo-ho-hoing is dumb anyway, since I don't think the studios get much of Crunchyroll's sub fees. If you feel guilty and want to financially support anime and manga, then buy the series you want directly so that they know what people want to see. They probably don't care too much about what the Western market wants anyway, but it's better than nothing.

Well, part of it is also its easier for me to find stuff on Crunchyroll and its a lot easier than just hunting down and downloading individual episodes. And this is true. Plus, I don't watch it on my PC, I use my Roku TV for it. Its a lot easier and saves me time if I can just search for something rather than prowling through google, nyaa and horrible subs. Its more about convince for me than any real moral dilemma. So its basically convenience vs. cost.

Oh, and I don't give a shit about supporting the industry since I know Crunchyroll doesn't do that. I'll buy merch if I want to support something. My only problem is how they split the blu-rays which is fucking crazy.

That's why I stick with buying manga I like instead of anime. If a series I like gets released for cheap later on, I'll consider it, but I couldn't bear the exorbitant prices that the initial releases go for. I like your show, but not that much.

I understand the convenience factor, but I feel like a halfway-decent HTPC is a good investment for media consumption, especially when paired with a robust catalog of "legitimately acquired" media. I watch all my stuff on my desktop since my monitor's large enough to watch comfortably from bed, and I'm used to searching and torrenting by now. An app would be more convenient, of course, but for me, the price advantage of pirating beats it. And if I'm gonna get substandard subs, I'd rather not pay for them.

Like you said, it's convenience vs. cost. I can put up with a little inconvenience if it's free, but I've got a different setup from you, so it's your call in the end.

Yeah, its a tough choice for me. Then there's also the debate of fansubs vs. official subs. My monitors are pretty big, by my TV is bigger (its cheap, I'm not bragging. But the good cheap). Its kind of sad that there's really no good choice out there.

Shouta Aoi died on the way back to his planet.
No real surprise, Episode 3 live action bit had all the pedestrians wearing face masks in the background.
