Also the world building episodes were probably the best parts and there could have been far more of them without dragging as a lot of the side characters and other pieces of the world were underdeveloped, such as the criminal underworld of the city.

I also thought that, but after Little Witch Academia and Franxx wasted their 24 episodes, I'd rather Trigger work on short projects that can get a second season if they are successful. Though I wonder if Trigger can do a 12 episodes on life in the city without a need for a massive outside threat.

I was actually looking to see if Red Line shared staff with Vampire Hunter D (2000) (because of the art style with very elven facial features) and ended up finding a few between the latter and Wicked City. 2D poon is whatever man, but I was a 3 year old little girl at the very most when I saw this dark gorn-fest on a chunky CRT, not some 10 year old boy purposely looking for desktop strippers and topless cat girls.

No beef with the animators, just with whoever left me in front of that thing who deserves to die. Give me hats but for the next decade minimum the memory was like a fever dream, a dark little ball in my head that I couldn't ask about and could barely describe. Sometimes I thought 'maybe I just made it up' but then how would a small child know how to imagine 'naked old dwarf-looking fart bangs equally naked woman until her boobs melt and absorb him until the MiB bust in and kill her'? Now that I know it's just one of many 80's gritty hentai flicks is almost disappointing but it's somewhat interesting that I misremembered that scene in the soapland as flipped and with a blue background instead of red/pink.

Ohhh, had a feeling it was Yoshiaki Kawajiri. King of dark erotica; if it wasn't his works, new folks were exposed to Legend of the Overfiend or Kite. The '90s were wild, yo. One of my classmates in college did a presentation on Wicked City in an early class like for character designs or something as it was one of his first anime titles he had ever seen and his biggest inspirations for his own artwork. Shortly after that I sucked it up to go check out Ninja Scroll and Wicked City among others, and I'm glad I did. To first come across it as a toddler, though, that's a big "oof" right there. Sorry to hear that.

Though his works were barely hentai despite their eroticism straddling that line. But like at the time, I think he took up on that erotic thriller angle because it's edgy or made for some engaging action. Basic Instinct might've just been a huge coincidence in that its popularity might've been what brought those movies and OVAs out here to make himself recognized in the world of animation. He's still around, too, I've noticed, done something as recent as storyboarding Overlord. Hm, explains a bit, actually.

Huh, that is interesting. The movie had a lot of reds and blues, though, probably wasn't intentional.

Well that's the guy, I was looking at Takeshi Koike instead because he's worked on some of the same things. I think someone in the family must've been a fan of Kawajiri ...Good taste I guess. I am absolutely going to hoard all of his promo art now.

I'd appreciate that presentation for the topic and it's own merit, being inspired like that is an awesome feeling but man, was that one hell of a first anime to get into...
I hope we see a return to more anime in that kind of style, the nose and lips are drawn almost uncomfortably small but they still *feel* like body parts like those flattering historical paintings or exaggerated greek statues where they managed to stylise it in 3D space. Modern anime is very slick but the people themselves all look like moving symbol drawings :/
 
So I'm getting into food wars now that the final season is airing. I didn't think I'd really like it, but its pretty amazing and better than any American cooking show I've ever seen. I'm at Season 3 going basically this council starts a revolution over the cooking institution. There are no more competitions, no more grades, no more individuality. All research clubs and societies are forcibly abolished. You no longer get to make what you want, you have to rely on the 'Central Committee'. Originally the school was a harsh meritocracy, with expelling students and cooking competitions where you'd have to show your originality, experience and combine cooking techniques. Making everyone have unique styles, but of course its difficult.

Then this 'committee' comes along, does away with all of that, and no more unnecessary expulsions, to 'redistribute' the top knowledge of hand-picked students and only cook that way. Basically forcing them into an ideological mindset where individuality is abolished. Its kind of cool, you see how this place was harsh for a reason and how it bettered the characters and their personalities, and how basically overthrowing it defeats the whole point of cooking, where the food is the heart and soul of the person making it, pushing you to be a faceless automaton doing what the 'state' dictates cooking is, forcing you to obey the hand-picked people's method of thinking. I honestly didn't think I'd get an allegory against Communism from a fucking food cooking anime. It even goes so far as REDISTRIBUTION OF PROPERTY, a KGB and 'no organizations but the party'.

Its actually pretty smart, and I was surprised at it.

Just know that this final season is considered by fans to have pretty much ruined the series because of what it did to Erina as a character.

I read what the author did in the manga and holy fucking shit they need to deviate HARD from that. But of course its anime so it won't. That's fucking disgusting. What is it with Mangka authors and fucking up at the finish line?

I think I'm just gonna stop at Season 4, I spoiled the manga and holy fuck I will not be watching that. I'm glad I got warned

Season 4, in my opinion, is a much better ending than what we got in the actual ending. I won't spoil it, but the final bout is an amazing way of bringing in the next generation of Totsuki upperclassmen.
 
Well I got a late start on the season (for no reason other than it kept slipping my mind to start watching), but I've picked up a few shows: Gleipnir, Nami yo Kiitekure, and Gal and Dino, as well as continuing Plunderer. Really enjoying all of them so far, with Kiitekure probably being my favorite of the bunch. Didn't realize I was wanting a more down-to-earth real-life series, but that's how it goes. Doesn't hurt that it has beautiful art and great writing too. I'd get drunk with Minare anytime.

I also can't look at Dino without laughing. His goofy expressions are too great.

I might pick up Listeners too after taking a little break (I did watch over a dozen episodes in a couple days). I'll save actual reviews for the end of the season, but I'd recommend any of those to anyone still looking for seasonals to watch.

I think it's kind of funny how they had to spend a bunch of time right in the middle of episode 12 after the big twist dumping a monologue in there because it's something that was never even brought up before.

Yeah, I'm just going to leave it at 4, since I'm only on like episode 6 of the third season. But why would you adapt one of the most universally despised endings in manga? I read up on it and it was so bad sales cratered into the dirt. I guess money to get anime only viewers. But from what I was reading, it was rather infamous, even for people who didn't follow it, and 99% of the fanbase hates it. Sometimes I just don't understand anime, the mentality is very different from Western media. Since even if an ending in a manga sucks shit, they'll still make it completely faithfully, even if they could rectify it.

Also the quality of the new season is apparently shit (not a shocker) and they're phoning it in. And the food explanations are apparently gone since the woman who wrote them went on maternity leave. Also lol at the main 'villain' nobody cares about having super powers. And then nothing gets resolved. There is literally no reason to watch the fifth season for me.

They should have just delayed it a year or two and re-wrote the last season. I guess they don't think this will effect blu-ray sales? But since it destroyed the sales of the manga, I really don't know what they're thinking.

Nothing particularly new with Trigger, and I love them dearly as a studio. They give you exactly what you were expecting every time without fail, and that's not really a bad thing when it's surface level social commentary and slapstick in the service of fucking amazing animation and fantastic music.

That being said, I consider myself surprised that nobody turned out to be a space alien...yet, lol. I want to hope so dearly it isn't netflix jailed and that maybe we'll get something to launch off of, but most if not all of the issue plot points were handily set up and resolved within the last six episodes. Whatever really, I'd just like to see more of this little world they've built up.

So yeah, BNA. Will probably go back to it again sometime after I finish KLK and Promare.
 
I was happy to learn that Discotek is not only releasing Tezuka's Thousand and One Nights - they are also including a long-thought-lost English dub...

(They apparently have the rights to his Cleopatra as well, but nothing's being done with it yet... I'm sure it'll come someday, though.)

Watched the new GIS 2045 with my pals and i have to check it to review it properly

First the start is a mess because apparently they want to try to make a huge ass plot about sustenaible war but was cut pretty shortly after they get the guy in the mansion and never talked about it again at least during this cour

Like someone said earlier the plot with the football players was dumb but like someone in discord told me it was very clever because in a society where money went to the absolute shit pretty sure football is going to be considered a superfluous expense and there is not going to be any leagues so you get dumb muscle that can't work for shit and only know how to hit a ball out there being a nuisance and in this case with weapons and very angry

California was decimated , USA became 50% better

Some tachikomas got a overhaul that consist in full panoramic cockpit but were designed for full cyborgs, Togusa found them very uncomfortable , also he doesn't have his signature Matoba revolver

Togusa also shine more in this series showing why the Major choose him, the guy know how to do his footwork to get stuff sone, mean the other guys are pros in his respective specialisations , they are aimed at actions operations none of them are good at being inquisitives like him , also his fighting scenes are well made shame that the textures of his model are ugly

The plot about the post humans are dumb if you don't keep with the lore I throwed this on discord and they agree with me that they are probably the start of America beginning to develop the Puppet master because post humans and him share some abilities remember they actually captured one

Ok let's talk about the elephant in the room, the graphics are terrible and the designs of the Russian are barely there I think there is only 3 models with their design, the Major, a girl with pink hair in section 9 that has the hots for Batou and a post human kid that look like the protagonist of Persona 3,also a couple of pictures and that's it, the rest are little touched models from the online shooter game of GIS that was on Steam

The plot with the old guys assaulting the bank hit me close to home because I lived it, saw old people crying outside of banks because their money became nothing after inflation eat it all and the reconversions did nothing to fix it and made it worse

The tachikomas not managing to crack a famicom cartridge copy protection made me laugh harder than I thought , so much for being state of the art AI tanks

People considered ridiculous that the guy in the mansion was pretty much immune to bullets by just dancing but like I told the guys in discord he probably did not even need to evade them when they were probably hacked , not even cyber brains on autistic mode are proven to be immune to them and the Major almost died when she dived on him

People bitched about the term autistic mode but sorry that term is even on the manga and is canon
