Probably a fairly niche question but: are any of the '70s - '80s super robot animes worth watching?

The few times I've tried to get into one (e.g. Mazinger Z) they always seemed too simple and plotless to keep my attention, like the type of shows you could skip ahead ten episodes at a time and not miss any new plot developments or character growth.

They are. You just have to keep in mind that these come from a different time in anime.

This is all you need to know about the mysterious Coordinator in Magia Record:

They work better if you watch only a couple episodes at a time. These were made during a simpler era where shows could last over a hundred episodes if the series was deemed popular enough, so they'd try to capitalize on that by putting in whatever ideas they could think of (hence why one episode has an evil robot Santa decades before Futurama's).

I'm really enjoying the current arc of the promised neverland.

I probably phrased my post wrong. I wasn't trying to shit on early super robot stuff but more looking for recommendations of the best of the crop, particularly ones with more of a focus on plot and character, like Dancouga. When it comes to mecha I'm more of a real robot guy, having already watched a lot of stuff like VOTOMS, SDF Macross, SPT Layzner, various Gundams, and others, and have been interested in branching out into more super robot stuff.

Depends on what you're interested in watching, in general if the premise sounds kind of okay it'll be kind of okay but you should keep in mind that the shit that's buried out there is buried for a reason most of the time. A lot of the older super robot shows didn't age well so trying to watch the more forgotten shit often results in a waste of time as you realize why no one's nostalgia-talking about them.
If I have to give broad recommendations then early Tomino shows I find to be generally safe bets but he's also done a bunch of shit. Xabungle stands out to me as his most entertaining non-Gundam work from around that time.

Xabungle is great, yeah. It's actually my favorite of Tomino's works. I was thinking more along the lines of genuine super robot stuff -- like if any of the J9 series were good or if Voltron in its original GoLion form was worth watching (plus Armored Fleet Dairugger XV).

Essentially I'm a huge Super Robot Wars nerd and, having already watched or tried out most of the real robot anime they use, I've been curious about the super robot shows they use.

My copy of Rose of Versailles arrived two days ago. Its quite beautiful. UDON went all out with this release. I haven't started it yet but from what I saw the reason it was delayed for so long is because they want to honor Riyoko Ikeda and her masterwork by being as accurate as possible with the translation.

Because its UDON I was expecting it to be like the size of an artbook, however it's your regular size hardcover manga, very compact and glossy.

How do you feel about hallmark channel trying to comment on our contemporary political environment, because that is essentially what the second half of carole and tuesday is.

That is a lie, because there's more black people in it than Hallmark's entire catalogue.
Hallmark thinks its diverse but in the end it's a sea of boring vanilla white women

Western audiences could wrap their heads around Inception, no way they'd understand Stein's Gate.
The only result will be a line of hot takes about how Marvel did time travel better.

Man, Japanese Trailers for anime movies just spoil the absolute shit out of stuff, don’t they?

Just saw the MHA: Heroes Rising trailer with the climax reveal at the end.
