I wouldn't be so sure about anime not appealing to the west in the future. Merchandising is often brought up as the driving factor in anime production. But revenues for the oversea market where nearly twice as high as revenue from merchandising in 2017.

Overseas obviously includes every country. Even non-western. So here are the contracts by country to get a rough estimate of the possible western/foreign influence.

So who knows what the future will bring. But one thing seems clear, oversea sales will propably become an important factor in the future. Anime is after all also a business with its own trends. I think I read in one of the Kadokawa annual reports that they want to publish at least 1 isekai anime each season, because the genre is so popular. So it might only take a few successful shows that appeal to the west to introduce a swing.

Or the animation business keeps on is course. After all, people from overseas like the current content they put out. At least by the revenue figure.

Sigh, looks like it will continue. I guess we've just got to wait until everything burns to the fucking ground and then just restart.

The problem is that old buisness men are old buisness men wherever they go. They don't realize the West likes it because its not Western. There's nothing to cater to. This mistake has been made so many times it feels like I'm insane.

*niche thing starts to get popular*

"OMG PEOPLE LIKE THIS, WE MUST CATER TO THEM"

*Normalizes niche thing, audience bleeds off, niche thing craters as old audience abandons it as does the new*

"WHY DOES NO ONE LIKE THIS ANYMORE, WE JUST CHANGED EVERYTHING THAT WAS GOOD ABOUT IT"

*Repeat for everything*

It definitely wasn't series ruining or anything, and there's still a lot of story to tell in those 40 years, but having really liked the quasi-alternate history aspect of the series the fact that they pretty much spoil that the Empire loses WW2 was just disappointing. That their world by 1966 seemed to have already recovered from the previous war and the Empire was a distant memory made it seem like things are going to align too closely to the real world for my liking.

Personally, I'm expecting that Tanya will switch sides. Either by betraying the motherland, or she'll disappear near the end if the war and pop up in another country and get a high ranking position. They're pushing the mystery aspect too much for it to be anything else. That being said, I haven't read all of the light novels.

I see a lot of talk about the industry dying but I'd suggest that perhaps it died years ago. I mean just look at what viewers call passable these days. Quite frankly it's embarrassing, and for the anime community that's saying something. People unironically like Hunter x Hunter and Food Wars. If that isn't a sign that the industry is in decline I don't know what is.

Calm down, it's China that's driving a lot of that foreign revenue (even if the west has a lot of contracts). You should be more concerned about appeasing to China more than SJWs in the west.

And even then, if they did that they would get severely damaged by it due to the lower budget of Anime studios in Japan.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of a sjw phase in shoujo/josei but really, its always been like that. Anyway, I agree. If anything, we'll see more of a xianxia/wuxia phase. Pretty sure what's has been released so far has done alright.

Though first, we still have a couple years of villianess/slow life isekai.

And other Asian countries. They even do their own English dubs.

Seems the Red Cross incident is sending people into a panic about western influence affecting Japan with identity politics. Not sure though if this is quite the same as that and is more just the Red Cross itself fucking up. The attendance of the blood drive was down as a result of the marketing being toned down.

I mean, it's kind of obvious from a logical perspective that the empire will eventually lose unless they stop their eternal warmongering. Those kind of empires crumble pretty quickly since they can't self govern and are culturally and economically fractured.
As for ending predictions, I only watched the anime so I guess that Tanya will just get to America/Japan and become a salary gal there. Her reason to joing the army are 100% self conservation and knowning she is in a shit position if she is on the losing side. Though it will be interesting character devlopemnt if she does become nationalistic.

I doubt Being X will ever allow Tanya to fully realize her dream of living out her life with a comfy office job. My (probably shitty) predictions for her are:
A) She switches sides but war continues to follow her everywhere, which she's constantly thrust into the middle of.
B) She doesn't switch sides but survives and ends up a hunted war criminal for the rest of her life.
C) Through some twist of fate she ends up in an equally hellish life as a wife and mother.

I think as far as Being X is concerned, the only way towards a peaceful life for Tanya is to truly accept and love 'God', which she's never going to do.

If anime was still aimed at kids this would never happen, you know.

Anime hasn't been aimed at kids for like 40 years

China already thinks anime is corrupting its youth and it will be banned before catered to.

Either that or a time loop where Being X just sends her back as Tanya again and again and again
