Looks like imma have to try out visual novels for the first time then.
if you wanna avoid the vn the conventional viewing order i've seen is

fate zero -> fate stay night unlimited blade work (tv series) -> whatever strikes your fancy

the only thing that really matters in the fate franchise is you watch those two first. they introduce the world and the characters which is important for other series cause it's not uncommon for more niche parts of the franchise to expect you to know a character or have some other knowledge about the fate universe.

the true connoisseur's route is Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya seasons 1-4 then the Oath Under Snow movie.

Just read the VNs and go from there if you want to really get into it. If you do that then ignore everyone else's suggestions. Watching/reading Zero and then SN is the equivalent of watching the SW prequels and then the good movies.

If you don't really care then you can watch them in almost any order. Do note that most of the anime adaptations are dogshit anyway because their source material was already terrible (like Apocrypha).

*starts watching the Yugioh Vrains Dub* (I hate myself okay, I like to suffer)

OH MY GAWD, This is bad..this might be the worst dub ever.

Eh, I don't mind. I figured everything Toei has made before the 2010s can't ever be Blu-Ray quality because they're a bunch of fuck-ups. If the files that're on KissAnime are DVD rips, those looked real nice, and Discotek probably got their hands on that, and I'm okay with that. I'm just happy Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo got rescued.

Are they doing the dub? If so that's probably the best you're gonna get.

watching Zero first is fine, it's probably the best fate anime and fixes the dumb edgey twists in UBW.

bare in mind i'm coming at it as someone who just watches anime and only cares about quality anime not fate as a franchise outside of that.

If you're gonna be a anime-only secondary redditor then that's fine, but if you're going to fully dive into the Nasu autism then watching Zero first is pretty silly.

It's mostly because the show was made in the era where Digipaint was still gaudy looking on any show it was used on. I'd say it wouldn't be until 2008-09 before it moved on from 480i quality (at best) to HD quality.

So, Anno has published a detailed article at the business magazine "Diamond" on his falling out with Gainax and it's pretty, well. It's insane.

Well, here.

Anno says Gainax was badly mismanaged. He became sick of Gainax’s mishandling of EVA, his works, the company, it's workers and more.
They had EVA, which was essentially a license to print money and still wasted cash and screwed up. Someone made a basic summary.

Among the other details, I didn't think the FLCL sequels existing could get more despicable but knowing the rights were stolen out from under Anno after he offered to buy them and give them to Tsuramaki is just Saturday Morning Cartoonish levels of villainy. I hope everyone that defended Adult Swim's Mike Lazzo when he said the original creators absolutely, definitely, really-o, truly-o gave their approval for the sequels despite not being involved in any way feel very silly now.

Yeah, both the English and Japanese tracks are on it.
Bo-bobo's probably one of the only anime that benefits from the dub if you don't know Japanese given that the original series is full of puns that don't translate well and jokes that are literally lost in translation, both culturally and linguistically. The dub basically had to replace jokes simply because they wouldn't make sense otherwise and the fact the show's still fucking hilarious while also keeping true to the spirit of the Japanese version is a testament to the quality of the localization.

Also Richard Epcar, Kirk Thornton, and Jamieson Price are pitch perfect in their roles.

If someone is looking for a good read/watch, I recommend Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous). Its setting takes place on a lone island that is the sole piece of land that is left after Earth faced six meteor collisions; with the sixth collision killing off the last remnants of humanity.

The main cast follows new beings that are comprised of sentient immortal gemstones. These gemstones fight against an unknown enemy that stops at nothing to take all the gems for unknown purposes.

Its an interesting story that has elements of religiosity such as suffering to attain Enlightenment and delving into concepts such as what stagnation does to an immortal society.

The show ends around chapter 36-38 and hopefully there is a continuation for a second season in the near future

Gainax has been a dead, in name only work for hire studio for a long time now, their swan song was Panty and Stocking.

Also, are the FLCL sequels really that bad? I haven’t seen them yet.

Let's just say they don't hold a candle to the original in all aspects and leave it at that.

At least the dub has Haruko's VA back in the role if nothing else.

That’s a real shame, there was so much potential in the idea of a sequel to FLCL.

Music is still The Pillows if that helps. Also I think a lot of people were disappointed that Haruka was the only return character.

It’s okay. But it’s not great, which is what people wanted it to be.

Finished up Goblin Slayer and the Saga of Tanya the Evil recently. I haven't really been into serious anime since like... the days of downloading the shit with Kazaa and eMule. I've mostly been getting my weeb fix with comedies like Umaru, Kill Me Baby, and Shinryaku.

Goblin Slayer was alright. It was definitely entertaining and enjoyable but I don't think it ever really lived up to the potential it shows in the first episode. More often than not it seemed like it settled for being generic high fantasy, just with more blood and gore. The idea that this universe's gods are just bored RPGers is interesting, though I think also not fully realized.

Related to that, the little epilogue speech at the end of the season about how the Goblin Slayer's meticulous planning was to counter the gods' love of random chance but I never really got the sense that that was the case. Felt like the writers weren't good or creative enough to actually incorporate that into the actual show, so they just blurt it out at the end to make it seem like that it was actually the case all along.

I didn't really like the Goblin Slayer's 'main party'. The priestess girl is alright since she actually gets developed throughout it, and at least the elf archer and the lizard have some personality traits, but the dwarf felt like a non-character. Given what happens in the first episode I kept expecting one of them to randomly catch an arrow through the skull in the middle of an episode.

Still, Goblin Slayer himself as a character manages to carry the show. Even if it never really realizes its potential I'd probably still just continue to watch his further adventures and elaborate plans to kill shit.

The Saga of Tanya the Evil, on the other hand, was pure excellence from beginning to end. I never thought Japan's love of lolis in military uniforms would ever lead to something so great. I don't have much to say on this one because I enjoyed pretty much everything. Tanya's aerial mage battles were especially great. Usually music in anime doesn't do much for me but I even got hooked on the show's opening and closing songs.

If I had any complaints it'd be that the animation seemed somewhat schizophrenic. A lot of detail is given to Tanya and her expressions, hair, and movements, but once she's off the screen there'd often seem to be a dip in quality. I also think the 40 year jump into the future with the prologue of the movie (which should've just been called Tanya vs Commie Scum) was a mistake and unnecessarily pigeonholes the series' story going forward. Although I guess Tanya ending up in this universe's version of Operation Paperclip could be amusing.

Up next I'll probably watch Demon Slayer. Is Rise of the Shield Hero actually worth watching? That was another one on my list but I'm not entirely sure about it. I also tried KonoSuba but couldn't get into it; Slayers is one of my all time favorites but KonoSuba just did nothing for me.

Shield Hero is a typical isekai that pretends to be different in the first four episodes. If you like isekai, you’ll like it. I didn’t much care for it.

Demon Slayer is amazing through and through with its animation and music. I’m pretty much holding off on the manga just for the anime adaptations to be released. There’s a reason why the mangaka cried after seeing episode 19. It’s that good.

The biggest problem Shield Hero had is that it took forever to get an Anime adaption. The original Web Novel, and later the Light Novel version of it(Technically the original Web Novel is an alt universe from the Light Novel and the latter is what the Manga and Anime are based on, though there are hints that events at the end of the web novel directly effect the plot of the later adaptions' universe), were written a decent bit before the big Isekai boom in Japanese fiction, so it seems pretty simple compared to other series whose novels came out later but got Anime adaptions a lot sooner.
