Yeah... so much for Adult Swim's Broadcast Standards and Practices having a good time by going full-on Jerry Springer on the sixth episode.
 
Ok so I'm going to start chronicling my descent into Weaboo hell. So far I've watched all of FMA 2003, read the entire FMA Manga, Am 13 episodes into OG Dragon Ball (Also watched the two Bardock specials), 9 episodes into Naruto, 3 episodes into My Hero Academia, and 1 episode into Attack on Titan

So yeah, outside of that little crack in the case there, it was still wrapped in cellophane (of which I learned Kid Rhino is actually from Rhino Entertainment a.k.a. Rhino Records, so I dunno if their kid section lasted longer than ten years--it says in small print "Univ-Rhino2 RX" so was that a merger?). But then I saw that there was a game card inside, and I was like "Holy shit, there was a trading card game???"

Oh yes. Yes there was.

So I'm just laughing over here at just how much trading cards were a thing for these shows back then, but so many of them flew under us kids' radars. Gonna take a wild guess that this was one of the most failed attempts at a trading card game ever.

Oh, if I should happen to disappear without a trace, that's because the feds have taken me to jail, I suppose. Maybe the seller will get in trouble, too, I dunno lol.

I recall "Kid Rhino" from Rhino's catalogs I used to get. They mostly just had kid-related stuff in tape/CD. Wouldn't doubt they probably dropped after this release you have. Interesting the push they tried with the card game and gear. A lot of us "older fans" used to bitch about Nelvana's handling of the series then, we never thought of how those younger viewers may've saw in it that we couldn't see.

I haven't seen the FMA TV series since the original Adult Swim airing well over a decade ago now, I definitely plan on rewatching it eventually but first I'd like to finally read the original manga.

I probably like the 2k3 tv series but I agree with the popular consensus that Brotherhood/the Manga are just better.

Probably because I first watched it as an adult and not a squealing teenager, but I like both series equally. Although Brotherhood has the proper, true ending, the 2k3 series actually tied up its own loose ends its way, even if it took until a movie to do it. I'm also a sucker for bittersweet endings and dark stories, so while I think the 2k3 series had an ending that would cause most people to ugly cry, I thought it was fitting for how the original series set itself up when it deviated from the manga.

I think that's why Fruits Basket getting the Brotherhood treatment is going to be interesting because both adaptations thus far have a lot in common, the only difference is with Akito's portrayal and the 2019 series adapted just a bit more of the manga (though I think some of it is chronologically out of order? Ayame wearing the wedding dress was in the original but it's not in the 2019 anime). It also kinda changed up some of the comedy, I'm not gonna lie. I think the comedic pacing was handled much better in the original 2001 series and not just because it was a literal 1:1 adaptation of the manga.

And I enjoy the Yuki fangirls' wackiness in the original better.

Ok so general thoughts on each of the series I listed so far

FMA 2K3: Not as great as Brotherhood but really good series all around don't much care for the ending as well as Shambala (though I love what they did with Fritz Lang). Also hilarious in hindsight since in this version the big bad is voiced by Monica Rial.

FMA Brotherhood/FMA the Manga: Grade A My personal favorite Manga/Anime (though since I'm green this may change as I descend further into degeneracy)

Classic Dragon Ball: Confession time I watch dubs not subs... at least on the first viewing then I do subs on my second. As such given that a large chunk of the Dragon Ball actors have been outed as giant pieces of shit it can be a bit uncomfortable. That being said I'm a firm believer in separating the art from the artist. Overall, the first arc of Dragonball is pretty charming and I'll be interested to see how it transitions into the the more iconic Z

The Bardock specials: I'm watching these series in loose chronological order so I viewed these specials before watching OG Dragon Ball. The first OVA was pretty good. I love the fact that instead of being a straight up hero Bardock was a straight up dickthough he still did have noble characteristics. Didn't much care for the psychic stuff though. Didn't much care for episode of Bardock. Not bad just wasn't a fan of how the time travel stuff was handled.

Naruto: I know this is a cool show to hate on but so far I'm enjoying the early parts of it. The three main leads are fine and play off each other well but not very compelling to me. So far Kakashi is my favorite character. The first Major villain Zabuza also makes a really great first impression.

My Hero Academia. Pretty decent so far. I like Deku as a main character and his struggle to become a hero is compelling. All Might is also a really great character somehow capturing the essence of Superman better than certain recent incarnations of the character have.

Attack On Titan: Only one episode in so far but I'm definitely intrigued. The first episode does a great job of hooking the viewer.

The hate for Naruto didn’t really start kicking in until all the filler started
 
I will be the first to admit that I prefer FMA 2003 over Brotherhood and the manga.

Yes, Brotherhood was more faithful to the manga. But that doesn't automatically make it better,

It was kind of annoying as a fan of the first anime seeing everyone trash FMA 2003 solely because it dared to deviate from the manga. Even friends of mine who loved the first anime back when it was airing on Adult Swim decided to take that view. What's even more ironic is that a lot of them also complained about all the filler episodes in Bleach and Naruto.

This mindset was at its worst back in the early 2010's right after Brotherhood came out and was very popular.

I like the original, just not how it ended.
Also, man did Winry get shafted compared to Brotherhood.

Amen. The 2003 anime still gets trashed to this day and people are told to skip it, which drives me up a wall. I love it to death and always will. Watched a couple episodes of Brotherhood and honestly didn't care for it, same with the manga. Being closer to the manga doesn't automatically make an adaptation better; hell, sometimes the manga itself isn't even that great.

I’d say your safe to skip almost all of the filler, unless you want to see some featuring whatever characters you like best. Specifically, there’s a TON of filler between Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden.

Looking at animefillerlist it appears that with the original series, there's pretty minimal filler for the first 135 episodes with only one filler arc and a few scattered one offs then from 136-220 their are only three non filler episodes. With Shippuden it seems far more sporadic alternating short stretches of filler, short stretches of plot, long stretches of filler, and long stretches of plot with no rhyme or reason

CN marathoned the shit out of Naruto. If I recall they had a literal 50 hour marathon of Naruto to celebrate its 100th episode.
