The Japanese public domain law says that cinematographic works are protected for 70 years after publication. Revise those dates to 2052, 2053 and 2054.

(Of course, this could be why Tatsunoko keeps reusing its old characters... for the same reason Disney does.)

I do believe the ruling wasn't retroactive, so it doesn't apply to works created during the 1980s (though I could be wrong).

It means that everything created before 1953 is still public domain in Japan. It doesn't mean that the copyright on those shows hasn't extended.

I'm happy for the author, I remember reading that she hated the previous adaptation(and the director).

I also remembering reading in the same sentence that she's a control freak, and the director also hated working with her. I'm happy for her that she found someone who was willing to work with her despite that reputation.

It seems that both cases are true. Takaya and the old director apparently couldn't stand each other; he made changes that she didn't approve of and she was nitpicky as fuck.

I also found an article about the new anime where she makes some passive aggressive jabs at him.

So there's a CGI Lupin movie coming out and it looks good. I'm waiting for details on the story, but Lupin III stuff is always fun for me.

The first teaser pic for Hanako-kun is out, along with the main directing cast. Masaomi Ando (SCHOOL-LIVE, Hakumei and Mikochi) is directing, Composition and Screenplay writer is Yasuhiro Nakanshi (Kaguya-Sama: Love is War), Character designer is Mayuka Ito (Hakumei and Mikochi chief animation director), and Lerche (Assassination Classroom) works on anime production.
