Reminder: Alex Jones understands NGE better than 'The Verge'

https://youtube.com/watch?v=5X9RUOEOoNQ
For all his insanity and bullshit, Jones shows he has a better understanding of movies and media than most outlets, maybe even average viewers. It's insane. The guy made an analysis of the political crap from the Star Wars prequels that actually made sense.

I just saw the Netflix dub of Evangelion and it's really bad:

- First the new voice cast was not really good as almost everyone sounded bored out of their minds and did not want to be there. The only exceptions were the people playing Gendo and Misato, they seemed to be the only VAs who actually tried. Shinji sounded more girly than both the original Japanese VA and Spike Spencer while Asuka's VA in the Netflix sounded like she was extremely bored out of her mind, not even trying at all. At least Tiffany Grant put more emotion into her performance.

- The changes to the script were bad. I am not the type of person who cares about gay representation much but making Kaworu and Shinji's relationship more ambiguous is fucking stupid when it's one of the most blatantly obvious gay relationships in fiction especially with Kaworu's dialogue using explicitly romantic language in the original. It doesn't help there's official merchandise basically shipping the two. Can't believe I have to side with the woke crowd on something for once.

- The dialogue changes are also horrible and make no sense. Kaiji's question on the table on the boat about Asuka was very lewd in the original and ADV dub which was "Does she still sleep completely naked?" , Netflix changed it to something more innocent like "Does she still make a fool out of herself when she's sleeping?" and everyone still has embarrassed reactions when Kaiji said that as though it was taboo to say something like that which makes it feel awkward. It doesn't help that even some of the grammar is horrible as they refer to Shinji as the "First children" instead of "First child", normally these would be nitpicks but how the fuck can one overlook these basic grammar mistakes.

- I get that there are copyright issues but why was the ED changed from "Fly me to the Moon" to music that would be heard as stock background music for readings of scary stories:

Honestly I'd rather have a 4Kids dub of Evangelion than this garbage because at least that would be entertaining. Overall, this is one of the worst anime dubs of all time in my opinion and this honestly feels like the script was a first draft.

After just watching a few snippets, the new NGE Dub really blows chunks.
It's not even just the VA alone, the sound quality also sounds really bad.

Also, can we make it a thing to refer to new VA Shinji as "Cringey Ikari"?

The problem with Strike Witches is that if your only contact with the series is the anime (and that cringe funimation was it? promo 🤷) then you get a trashy fanservicey anime that you can easily forget, but the reason they keep pushing is because he has a dedicated fanbase of War weebs for the supplementary world building that is like someone explained to me "Is like star wars, most of the movie are trash but you got to the extend universe and you forget the movies"

I mean i know grow ass man that play Azur lane and are big fans of Guns and panzer, those fandoms normally spill to things like World of warships and War thunder so you could not differentiate them on the wild
The worst thing about the Strike Witches Anime were the constant panty shots. Watching it as a slice of life anime with likeable characters and a few fights against alien monsters here and there makes it a decent watch... or at least made it a decent watch 10 years ago. Dunno if I would still ike the show.

While tying it into some conspiracy theory about the WTC and Bush doing nefarious shit.
It was insane, but he got his point across pretty neatly.

No different than how the crazier fans of NGE kept gloating how deep the show is decades ago. The more things change

https://youtube.com/watch?v=fxhQXV1-kFA
Yeah, but this is way worse than fans gloating about something in their favorite show, this is some really lame attempt to tie NGE to some CURRENT YEAR+3 politics bullshit in the most asinine way.
"Yeah, Shinji has to fight angels, nd just like him, we have to fight DONAAAAAAAAAAAAAARL DRUUUUUUUUUUUUMGPF", fuck this shit.
I especially like how this clown uses a charged term like concentration camp. You just know he's gonna do the Motte and Bailey shtick, when you point out how this shits on several million dead people who died in concentration camps by going "Well, a concentration camp is a place where people are concentrated, not necessarily a death camp, look it up in a dictionary." Cause dictionary-definitions matter now all of a sudden, when they didn't for such terms as Apartheid, PTSD, rape, trigger and so on for years.
This asshole wants his cake (using a charged term of alluding to a genocide) and eat it too (denying it is strictly alluding to a genocide).

I really hate this behaviour, it's so pathetic.

I haven't watched the Netflix edition of Evangelion yet, but it's disappointing to hear about how badly it's been received. Might consider rewatching the show in subs and old dubs at this point, while I wait for Rebuild: Final to gimme something good.

Sadly you cant blame the new script to Netflix, it was Khara that made the subs in house because apparently they dont wanted to trigger the snowflakes or something like that, it went as well as you can expect, still considering the tremendous and horrible errors i have seen before is not apocalyptic, i mean changing the meaning is one thing but destroying plot points in the story is another

The worst thing about the Strike Witches Anime were the constant panty shots.

Strike witches was released when Fanservice was the thing that pushed sales, go check the animes of that season and you will see what im a talking about it, we are now in the light novel/isekai era of Anime and thankfully fanservice has been pushed to the sides because people got bored of it, is not completely gone, but at least you dont see them pushing more seasons of Queen blade or if you want to go to the bitter end, Kanokon (that i had to edit and it was a nightmare because the translator wanted to put stupid jokes with hardcoded subs)

Can you source this? Also I refer to the dub as Netflix’s because it’s exclusive to their platform.

The Khara thing was something that was making the rounds on twitter and dont have in hand right now, but apparently the problem was that people is used to old ass 20 years subtitles/dub scripts and the new one was made from scratch with a new translator , sadly if i try to recover the source i just get tons of tons of links calling Netflix homophobic again and again

As i have tell everyone that have asked, no, the goddamn subtitles are not censored, "like" and "love" is practically spelled the same, but people is used to the "love" line because that is was the thing that everyone know from the old dubs (even the latin american has it) in further material the relationship of the both is "almost" homo but Shinji almost always end killing him or Kaworu end death, i think that is Anno way to just not give the damn fujos more to work with it, also Shinji being super gay was retconned by Anno in The end of evangelion where is practically stated that he wanted to bone Misato, then retconned again in Rebuild and throwed out of the window by Bampresto, want to see how gay Shinji is? read Evangelion Anima, Shinji become a swagger that get chicks and get the job done, play Super robot taisen V were he get so pissed when Asuka is in danger that go full super mode screaming his lungs out manly style to save her (and is not only in this game, he grow balls in every instance because he has other pilots that actually care about him and teach him the ways, in Alpha was Bright noah, in V was Nagare Ryouma and Tetsuya Tsurugi, in others he even have Noriko from Gunbuster and Simon fron Gurren laggan, even Banagher links become his friend in some games and both are best buddies)

Also check the replies to the poor guy, is just troons insulting and telling the guy to kill himself because one line, back in the day we just only release a patch for the mkv and get over with it (not that we cared about their opinion anyway)

Im going to try again to find a verified and not stupid source of the Khara thing

Watched some Eva on Netflix:

1. The new dub is fine. It won't go down as one of the greatest dubs, but it is a VAST improvement over the first English dub, and I'm not at all sorry to say it. The old dub has always sucked. However, regardless of which dub was provided here, give me the Japanese version all day every day.

2. The show looks absolutely beautiful in HD. Wowza.

3. I'm very disappointed in the whole "Fly Me to the Moon" situation. My biggest gripe with this whole thing.

4. The "censorship," I think, has been blown out of proportion. Just because Kaworu now says that he "likes" Shinji, that doesn't mean the homosexual subtext isn't there. In my opinion, the potential romantic connection that Shinji and Kaworu have has always been a red herring to me ... Because it's not about whether they're sexually attracted to each other; it's about Shinji making SOME form of a human connection that comes from a pure and unconditional place. Shinji having to kill Kaworu at the end of that episode is so devastating not because he's killing a lover, but because he's killing someone who's made Shinji NOT feel such self-loathing for once. I understand the criticisms behind this translation of course, but I don't think it "kills" the relationship between Shinji and Kaworu at all.

And the REEEEEing about the line, "I'm so fucked up," not being in the new translation of The End of Evangelion is ridiculous to me. It wasn't the original line anyway. That line has always felt like a sad attempt at being edgy, when THAT scene clearly doesn't need anybody literally telling us how fucked up it was. Just my two cents.
